Note: I wrote this article directly after the Bills loss in London, without much time for reflection. The article that follows has been edited for suitability by the folks at Bills Daily, a site with high ethical standards and is suitable for Bills fans of all ages.

I just finished watching the game, and I’m fired up. My throat hurts from yelling and my wife and children have left the house – I have no idea where they went. Political correctness seems to be a popular target these days and I’m a sports fan, not a journalist, so I think I’m just going to let it fly and speak my mind.

Holy [redacted] – that was [redacted] horrible! I’ve seen some ugly and memorable Bills losses over the years, but this one in London is sure to be a classic posted to the Wall of [redacted].

I have one thing to say about this whole London thing – the NFL can go [redacted]. The London experiment by the NFL is cute – let’s try and share our game overseas, never mind that nobody in the UK grows up with football and most locals understand it about as well as we Americans understand cricket. Never mind that the logistics of a game in London are nightmarish with all the equipment you have to ship through customs, the 6 hour time difference from the east coast, the fact that everyone in the organization has to have a passport or visa, the fact that fans on the west coast have to be up at 6:30 am for kickoff, all so you can expand the NFL brand to an island nation with a total population of 63 million (roughly the same as a the combined populations of California and Texas and 1/5th population of the United States). If the league is seriously contemplating putting a team in London someday they are a stupider group of [redacted] than I thought.

I set my alarm this morning so I wouldn’t sleep though the game – after camping with my son on Saturday and barely getting any sleep in a tent in 27 degree weather, I was not happy when the alarm went off. I stumbled out of bed, made some coffee and some eggs and fired up the Chromecast to see the pregame. I gotta admit – I [redacted] hate watching the Bills this early and won’t ever be moving to the west coast – eggs are not good game food.

Months ago I knew the [redacted] streaming thing would be a nightmare and I was mostly right. I used the Yahoo Sports application on my tablet and used Chromecast to cast the image to my TV. Picture quality was good, but the studio crew for the pregame was [redacted] awful and looked like it broadcast from a [redacted] basement. Also, the video stream delayed by about a minute when I started casting rather than watching it directly on the tablet. Worst of all, the [redacted] vide froze up at times – key times – then “unstuck” and skipped ahead to real time so I missed some of the action like the 4th and goal stop – I guess I didn’t need to see that. [redacted] Yahoo and their [redacted] experiments – I pay a lot of [redacted] money for Sunday ticket so I can see the whole game, pause, rewind and record for later viewing, not this [redacted].

What can I say about the game – it was [redacted] terrible. I understand the Bills are banged up – 5 offensive and 2 defensive starters were out, but given that this is Jacksonville and the Bills have a solid defense as long as the Bills could keep the score down they could probably still win. Well, that plan went to [redacted]. The Bills [redacted] away a couple of games they should have won, so suddenly Jacksonville became a must-win game – how sorry is that?

First play of the game, EJ Manuel throws a ball to the feet of Robert Woods who is standing about 10 feet from him – [redacted] – that’s the type of throw a third grader makes – it was going to be another one of those games. The Bills held Jacksonville to 3-and-out and on their second drive treated us to some of the best clown football there is. The first play in the red zone saw the ball snapped as Woods motioned across the line – the ball hits him and the Bills almost lost it. The next play Chris Gragg has some sort of stroke and thinks he’s in bounds when he’s actually 2 feet out of bounds – nice catch, but it doesn’t count. On third down they go back to Gragg and Manuel throws a ball that would have been too high for the blue guys from Avatar, and they’re [redacted] 9 feet tall. Field goal – [redacted].

Things really started to get interesting at the end of the first quarter as Jacksonville drove down for a touchdown – 7 plays, 73 yards with plays of 22, 23 and 12 yards. In the second quarter everything went to [redacted]. Jacksonville threw on overload blitz to Manuel’s left side and even though he was looking right at a blitzer he took a hard hit, fumbled the ball and Jacksonville ran it in for a touchdown. Classic EJ – he panicked in the situation and was careless with the ball and now Buffalo was down 14-3. Considering EJ’s poor play, I was screaming for him to be benched – I knew it was slipping away.

And slipping away it was. On the very next offensive play, Manuel dropped back, locked onto his receiver and threw the ball right to a Jacksonville defender for a pick-6 – [redacted]!!! I know I skipped church to watch the game, but I went from wanting EJ on the bench to wanting EJ struck down by a [redacted] bolt of lightning. When he threw yet another interception that turned into another touchdown I was absolutely beside myself as I screamed at the TV – [redacted] that guy – I never want to see him in a Bills uniform ever again. If he ever plays another game for Buffalo it will be an admission that the organization has horribly mismanaged the quarterback position for over a decade and knows they are going to lose. [redacted] EJ Manuel.

I’ve got to admit, being down 27-3 to Jacksonville, I don’t remember much of the rest of the game – I was too angry to pay rapt attention to my buffering video signal. Somehow, the Bills climbed back in and I thought that if I was lucky I’d get one of those “angry wins” I’ve gotten a few times over the years – you know, the wins you get that go down as a W but still leave you feeling angry that the team played that poorly.

What happened next almost made me lose my [redacted] mind. The vaunted Bills defense, the one we’ve seen very little actual production from, had to hold Jacksonville to something less than a touchdown from a drive that started at their own 16-yard-line. The Bills gave up pass plays of 20 and 18 yards, but finally had the Jaguars with a 3rd and 15 when the refs decided to get in on the action. On a pass that was cleanly defended by Nickell Robey, a ref threw a flag for pass interference, one of the worst calls I’ve seen in years – the drive continued. 2 plays later Blake Bortles threw a touchdown to give Jacksonville the lead. Bortles would have never made that pass had Jerry Hughes not been held so bad he was turned completely around, but of course there was no flag. The refs gave the game to Jacksonville – [redacted] them. The Bills mounted one last drive but it fell short when EJ failed on a QB sneak and then rolled to his left to make a pass across his body and was unable to get enough on the ball to complete the pass – what a [redacted] play call.

And so the Bills lost – blame EJ, blame the all-bark-no-bite defense that came up small again, blame the refs, blame the play calls, blame the coach – [redacted] them all.

The Bills hit their bye week at 3-4, but the season is over. Yeah, I’m negative, but I’m also a realist. If you look at the last 10 years of playoff participants you’ll see that 65% of the time you need 10 wins to capture a wild card spot, 17.5% of the time you needed 11 wins to get a wildcard and 17.5% of the time you could make the wildcard at 9-7 or worse. Playing the odds then, the Bills need to win 7 of their next 9 games to see the postseason. Considering the Bills play New England in New England on a nationally-televised night game, the Bills can only lose 1 other game to make the playoffs. They face a Jets team (twice) that is much better than any Bills fan wants to admit and a Miami team that looks reborn with a coaching change. They also play Dallas who should have Tony Romo and Dez Bryant back on the field. I’m not seeing 7 more wins before the season ends – if you do, congratulations – you’re a huge optimist.

I really thought the Bills had a chance this year – I really thought they had the talent to make it happen, but along the way something happened – the Bills became the Bills. Whether it’s failing to live up to potential, pissing away games they can’t really afford to lose, suffering a ridiculous amount of injuries and getting [redacted] by the officials, it’s all classic Buffalo Bills. If you want to know why I’m negative and bitter it’s because the result always seems to be the same with this organization. I’m guessing the Bills find a way to go 7-9 this season and we can all go back to thinking brighter days are ahead – [redacted] that.
