With the recent acquisitions of projected role players and starters the Buffalo Bills may have ejected themselves from last place in the AFC East to possible AFC Champions, however only time will tell. The off season moves that brought FB Sam Gash, CB/S Izell Reese, WR Bobby Shaw, DT Sam Adams, OLB Jeff Posey, OLB Takeo Spikes, and K Rian Lindell, not to mention Dick LeBeau, give fans high hopes for the coming season. With all of these upgrades to an already above average team, the possibilities could range from an under .500 season (which we could see if the coaching staff doesn't get better with its additions) to a visit to the Super Bowl (most likely without any key losses to injury).
With the NFL Draft still about two weeks away the Bills roster is still under construction. Such positions that are still in question consist of: S, WR, CB, DL, and some minor OL adjustment are still in consideration. All of those positions could be solved during future free agent signings in the next few weeks and the NFL Draft. As of right now there is no real favorite for the 23rd overall draft pick this year by the Bills. There are some that are being considered more than others. Some of these players are: Rein Long - DT from Washington State, Jason Witten - TE from Tennessee, and Michael Haynes - DE from Penn State.
There are also many players on the Bills roster that aren't well known at all, but may have an increased roll this season. Here are my projected surprises: S Tony Driver, CB Kevin Thomas, CB Jason Bostic, CB Ahmad Brooks, TE Mark Campbell, DE Grant Irons, DT Justin Bannan, LB DaShon Polk, MLB Brandon Spoon, WR Charles Johnson, FB Phillip Crosby, and RB Joe Burns. I know that not all of these players will play an increased role this year, but some of them we feel will be major contributors.
