Week 10: Total Team Meltdown
The defense was offensive in blowout loss.
by Steve Saslow

Here are our position by position grades:

Quarterback:

Ryan Fitzpatrick had to do it all himself and it unraveled in the second half. He finished 20 of 31 for 146 yards and three interceptions to go with one TD pass.
Grade F: Hard for him to do it all.

Running Backs:

Fred Jackson ran the ball only 13 times since the team was blown out early but he did manage 114 yards.
C.J. Spiller was called for illegal motion penalty. He had one yard, on one carry.
Grade C: Didn't have a chance to get involved since the game was over so early.

Receivers:

Stevie Johnson was playing sick and it showed as he caught only two passes for eight yards.
David Nelson had the Bills only touchdown. He caught 4 passes for 31 yards.
Donald Jones had a pass go off his hands and was intercepted. He was targeted 10 times but only caught 6 passes for 51 yards.
C.J. Spiller split time at WR and RB. He lined up at WR and they finally unleashed him on a bomb and he dropped it.
Scott Chandler had three catches for 34 yards.
Grade F: Didn't do anything to help out the anemic offense.

Offensive Line:

Andy Levitre took the wrong guy on the first play when Ware came in untouched. Beaten by the blitz twice on opening series.
Colin Brown came it at right guard after Wood got hurt.
Kraig Urbik moved to center to replace Wood.
Eric Wood got hurt when trying to make a tackle after an interception.
Grade F: Missed assignment allowed Ware to come in untouched on opening play. Couldn't figure out the Cowboys blitzes early. Fitzpatrick was knocked around a lot.

Defensive Line:

Marcell Dareus had a nice stop on Murray on a 2nd and goal carry in the first quarter. He played nose and kicked back out to defensive end in this game.
Dwan Edwards had one tackle and one QB hit.
Alex Carrington had one tackle.
Kellen Heard got a nice tackle for loss on 2nd and short on the Cowboys 2nd series. He was used a lot to try and stop the run, it didn't work.
Torrel Troup saw some extra playing time in the Bills big run front. He was called for a holding penalty. He had three tackles, one for loss.
Grade F: Huge holes in the running game, no push in the passing game.

Linebackers:

Nick Barnett had his quietest game of the year with four tackles.
Kelvin Sheppard had four quiet tackles.
Spencer Johnson was in on three tackles.
Danny Batten had a nice tackle for loss.
Grade F: It was like this unit wasn't on the field.

Secondary:

Terrence McGee was beaten by Holley for a 25 yard gain on a 3rd down pass on the Cowboys first drive. Bryant beat him for a 13 yard reception to set up a first and goal.
Drayton Florence was burned for a 58 yard touchdown by Robinson after Rayner missed a FG.
Leodis McKelvin was beaten by Bryant for a 34 yard touchdown on the Cowboys first drive. He was also beaten by a third down conversion on the Cowboys 4th possession.
Jairus Byrd did force a fumble that wasn't recovered by the Bills. He had eight tackles.
George Wilson had eight tackles before leaving with an injury .
Da'Norris Searcy replaced Wilson and whiffed on a sack attempt and dropped an interception. He was in on five tackles.
Grade F: The corners may be among the worst in the league.

Special Teams:

Brian Moorman had three punts averaging 52 yards per kick including a whopping 50.7 net.
Dave Rayner missed his first field goal attempt as a Bill. Had plenty of leg for the 52 yard attempt but was way left. He hit his only other kick, an extra point.
C.J. Spiller returned two kicks for 61 yards.
Coverage Units allowed two punt returns for just four yards.
Grade C-: Didn't help matters.

Coaching:

Chan Gailey didn't have the offense ready for the Cowboys. Was too scared of the pass rush and didn't make the adjustments. Made a bad challenge call on the opening kickoff of the second half.
George Edwards his defense is just awful. No pass rush, awful in coverage, no run stopping ability.
Bruce DeHaven may want to start letting his returners bring back kickoffs from the end zone.
Grade F: Two awful performances in a row.
