The Skinny:
LeSean McCoy ran for three touchdowns, Mike Gillislee added a fourth as the Bills ran away from the 49ers in the second half of a 45-16 win. It was the Bills fourth straight win as Tyrod Taylor threw touchdown passes to Robert Woods and Justin Hunter as the Bills put together a complete team win. McCoy finished with 140 yards on the ground while Taylor completed 17 of 26 passes for 179 yards.
The Big Drive:
Four of them: The Bills had four touchdown drives in a row late in the third quarter and the fourth quarter to put the game away.
Stat I Did Like:
Rushing Yards: 312 yards on the ground were great.
Stat I Didn't Like:
Fumbles Lost: The team lost two fumbles in the game luckily in didn't hurt them.
Scene Setters:
- Ted Washington was the leader of the charge before the game.
- The crowd chanted USA USA USA as the 49ers were taking the field after the National Anthem.
Key Matchup Results:
The winners of the battles highlighted in our preview article:
RB LeSean McCoy vs. SS Antoine Bethea: Winner: McCoy. He was simply dominate.
QB Tyrod Taylor vs. QB Colin Kapernick: Winner: Taylor. He was the best QB on the field in this game.
LB Zach Brown vs. RB Carlos Hyde: Winner: Brown. He had seven tackles and a sack as they held Hyde to just 52 yards on 14 carries.
LB Lorenzo Alexander vs. LT Joe Staley: Winner: Alexander. He had a sack for a sixth straight game.
Keys To The Game Results:
How the keys highlighted in our preview article turned out:
1. Contain Kapernick: Failure! He had 66 yards on 8 carries so he made plays but it didn't make much of a difference.
2. Minimize Mental Errors: Success! They maintained proper control and demeanor throughout the game.
3. Avoid The Letdown: Success! They were prepared, focused and ready to play and it showed in the big win.
My Take:
This was a trap game that in the past could have killed the Bills. It was close for over a half before the Bills took control of the game. They have confidence and momentum as they continue the road towards trying to end the 16 year playoff drought.
What's Ahead:
The Bills travel to Miami to take on the Dolphins in a division battle. Miami has struggled this year but they are coming off a shocking domiation of the Steelers that gives them new life.
