Week 9: Offensive Line Awful In Bad Loss
Team comes out flat in deflating defeat.
by Steve Saslow

Here are our position by position grades:

Quarterback:

Tyrod Taylor played well despite the loss he completed 29 of 40 passes for 285 yards but was sacked seven times.
Grade B: Not the reason for the loss.

Running Backs:

LeSean McCoy could get nothing going on the ground. The fact that they fell behind by so much took the ground game away. He finished with just 25 yards on 12 carries.
Mike Tolbert had just three yards on four carries.
Grade F: No running game killed them in this game.

Receivers:

Zay Jones had three nice early catches including running a perfect route for his first NFL touchdown in the 2nd quarter. He left the game late in the first half after hyper extending his knee. He came back before leaving again with the injury and finished with a career high 6 catches for 53 yards.
Jordan Matthews fumbled the ball away just before halftime when his catch would have setup a 4th and 1 in field goal range. They could have tied it at the half before his turnover. He also had six catches for 46 yards.
Andre Holmes had one catch and one drop.
Deonte Thompson had a big third down conversion after Jones went out. He finished with seven catches for 81 yards.
Nick O'Leary caught four balls for 51 yards but did fumble one away.
Logan Thomas had two catches in garbage time.
Grade C: The wide receivers had 22 catches but it really didn't matter.

Offensive Line:

Eric Wood had an awful game in the middle of the offensive line.
Richie Incognito really had a subpar game.
Jordan Mills was beaten for a QB pressure on a 3rd and 9 play that forced an incompletion on the opening series of the first half.
Cordy Glenn had perhaps the worst game of his career.
Vlad Ducasse was beaten for a 2nd quarter sack.
Grade F-: 7 sacks given up and a 2.9 yard average in the running game was simply pathetic.

Defensive Line:

Kyle Williams had some good penetration with his three tackles.
Jerry Hughes had a boneheaded personal foul, I know you are shocked. He had no stats.
Shaq Lawson was in on three tackles and out of position on a few plays.
Adolphus Washington knocked down a pass and had two tackles for loss. He had a decent game.
Eddie Yarbrough had two tackles.
Cedric Thornton had a big sack before halftime to stop the Jets from trying to score after the Matthews' fumble. Got him again for a second sack easily in the third quarter but grabbed his facemask and was called for a personal foul.
Grade D: They were beaten badly at the line of scrimmage.

Linebackers:

.
Preston Brown had eight tackles, two of them for a loss.
Lorenzo Alexander had a quiet five tackles.
Ramon Humber was in on seven tackles including two for losses in his return.
Grade D: Defense was awful and this unit didn't help enough.

Secondary:

Tre'Davious White was beaten by Robbie Anderson for a touchdown in the third quarter that gave the Jets a 10 point lead. He was called for a facemask penalty in the third quarter. He had five tackles
Shareece Wright was called for an illegal hands in the face penalty.
Leonard Johnson dropped an easy interception in the first quarter. Made a huge third down pass breakup in the third quarter to force a punt.
Micah Hyde had five tackles.
Jordan Poyer was in on seven tackles in his return from injury.
Grade B: Held McCown to 140 yards passing.

Special Teams:

Colton Schmidt had six punts for a 44.2 yard net including one inside the 20.
Steve Hauschka hit all three extra points and didn't attempt a field goal.
Patrick DiMarco had the only kickoff return for the Bills and it went for 24 yards.
Micah Hyde returned two punts for 18 yards.
Coverage Units gave up two kickoff returns for 44 yards and two punt returns for 13 yards.
Grade B: Not the reason they lost.

Coaching:

Sean McDermott didn't have his team ready for this game. They came up flat. Probably shouldn't have kept Zay Jones and Taylor in the game so long.
Rick Dennison had no answers for the Jets pass rush.
Leslie Frazier his unit struggled against the run more than at any point this year.
Grade F: Terrible loss.
