Bills Officially Move Henry To Titans

AP photo - Travis Henry Camp Countdown Begins! Bills Daily has begun our camp countdown. Training camp opens on Friday when the players report. The team still needs to come to terms with four draft picks, all of them should be signed by Friday with the possible exception of the top pick. Since Roscoe Parrish was a second round pick however, he should also be under contract by the time the team hits the practice field on Saturday morning. There are many different position battles to watch, mostly in the terms of backup spots on the depth chart. Backup RB, third WR, nickel back to name a few. The only starting spots in question are one defensive tackle spot and left offensive tackle. We will break down the offense and defense in separate training camp preview articles this week. Check out the right side of our homepage for the latest training camp schedule and latest poll as well. We want to know who you think will win various position battles. The first of the series of polls is about the backup running back spot.

Henry Situation Not Much Different: Travis Henry said all the right things in his introduction press conference yesterday in Tennessee. He did not bad mouth the Bills, only calling it a bad situation. He said the right things about co-existing with Chris Brown saying the same things he said when Willis McGahee was ready to play last year. He talked about it being a team game and not worrying about hitting his incentives as long as they win. He said each player will know their roles. Coach Jeff Fisher forsees them possibly working in the backfield together, similar to what was planned last year in Buffalo. They are looking at splitting carries probably getting around 200 each according to Fisher. It seems like Henry is in the same situation he was in Buffalo but with a team with less upside. If the scenario plays out like it has been laid out chances are Henry will not be as happy a year from now as he is today.

Busy Off Season Next Year: With training camp just around the corner it may be an odd time to look ahead to next off season but we decided to take a sneak peek anyway. The Bills will have several big name players become free agents in 2006. If they don't lock one or more of them up this off season they stand to lose more quality starters than they did this off season. The biggest name on the list is Nate Clements. They will probably make an overture towards him in camp but chances are he will want to test the market next year for the big payday that Antoine Winfield got last off season. Of all the upcoming free agents, who do you think the Bills will sign before they hit the market? Take our latest poll and let us know. Front Office Page.

Henry To Be Introduced: The Titans are expected to introduce Travis Henry today during a 4pm press conference. It will be interesting to see if he takes the high road when the subject of the Bills comes up. The Titans feel they have a great one-two punch with Henry and Chris Brown and it appears they will share the running back duties. Brown's agent said his client Welcome's Henry and says he'll help the team and help Brown stay healthy.

Titans Ink Henry: The Titans official website confirms that Tennessee has traded a third round pick to the Bills for Travis Henry. They also confirm that they have come to terms on a multi year extension for Henry who would have become a free agent after this season. All of this is pending him passing his physical which will take place tomorrow.

Reese Says Loose Ends Still Exist: While the Bills have announced the trade of Travis Henry to Tennessee, Titans GM Floyd Reese said that some loose ends need to be tied up. One of them is a physical that the Bills say will take place today. Reese said it has not been scheduled as of yet. Another issue is the Titans desire to sign Henry to a long term deal. The trade will not be held up by this fact however as the deal isn't contingent on a deal.

Donahoe Feels Titans Got A Great Deal: Tom Donahoe spoke to the media about the Travis Henry deal this afternoon. He decided to speak to clear up the confusion and all the speculation regarding the deal. He said the deal is complete and approved by the deal. It becomes official after Henry passes a physical that he will take tomorrow in Tennessee. Donahoe quipped that getting this deal done was as difficult as child birth. He is glad to get the deal done. He said he had the parameters of a deal done with Tennessee in the middle of last week but they gave them time to work on a long term deal with Henry. He said they were the one team that was consistently interested in getting Henry while other teams dropped in and out of negotiations. He called it an interesting process and thanked Henry for being a warrior and an outstanding player for the Bills. They knew he wasn't interested in being in Buffalo and didn't want the distraction when camp starts. Donahoe said the team was very upfront with what they received, they made it known they wanted a first day draft pick and did not want a conditional pick. He feels Tennessee probably got the better end of the deal since they got a heckva a running back for a pick that gives the Bills flexibility during next year's draft. He said Jacksonville was actually third in the running for Henry behind Seattle. He said the Jaguars couldn't make up their mind what they wanted to do. Donahoe said they would take the third round pick from whoever offered it first. They feel he's worth more than they third round pick so they knew they couldn't settle for anything less than that and would have taken him to training camp if they didn't get a first day pick. They expect a lot of competition among the other backs on the depth chart for the 2nd and 3rd running back spots. Donahoe denied rumors that the Jaguars upped their offer to a 2nd round pick.

Henry Deal Official: The Bills made it official this afternoon, announcing that they have traded Travis Henry to the Tennessee Titans. The team would not disclose which draft pick they get from Tennessee in their release but all reports say it's a third round pick and Tom Donahoe eluded to that fact to reporters.

Henry Speaks About Deal: Although the deal is not official yet, Travis Henry is excited to be heading to Tennessee. As we reported yesterday, his agent and sister both said he's looking forward to the move. He told a Nashville TV station by phone that he is very excited to be going back to the state where he played his college ball. He said he hasn't met Chris Brown yet but expects to be able to co-exist with him. He said everyone will know their role and that it is a team sport first. That is similar to the comments he made about Willis McGahee last off season. He then demanded a trade after the year. Will he be happy sharing time with Brown? Only time will tell. Let us know what you think by answering our poll question on the homepage.

Henry Not Done Deal Yet? Titans GM Floyd Reese released a statement yesterday through a spokesperson and said that a deal for Travis Henry is not done yet. He said it's still an ongoing process and no terms have been reached for a trade or a contract extension. Earlier reports said that a deal is done but a contract extension is not contingent on the deal.
