Staff Hard At Work: The coaching staff is at work at One Bills Drive while the players remain off. Turk Schonert is formulating the offensive scheme while the scouting department is finishing up the initial draft board. Many mock drafts have the Bills selecting big WR Malcolm Kelly with the 11th overall pick in the draft. The Oklahoma start is considered one of the top receivers in the draft.

Price Among Trio Released: The Bills released three players today including Peerless Price who had neck surgery during last season. Also released were LB Kevin Harrison and DB E.J. Underwood. The moves may mean the end of Price's career as he hoped to come back from the surgery that took out a bulging disc in his neck. Harrison was on and off the roster last year but didn't see much action. Underwood was signed to a futures contract on January 3rd.

Schumer, Higgins Meet With Commissioner: Senator Chuck Schumer continued pressing on the issue of the future of the Bills. He met with Roger Goodell today along with Congressman Schumer said in a conference call with reporters that the commissioner is committed to doing everything he and the league can do to keep the Bills in Buffalo. Goodell and Schumer plan to meet with Ralph Wilson very soon to explore ways to keep the team in Western New York. Goodell assured Schumer that the Toronto initiative is just about the continued regionalization of the team. The commissioner said there were no discussions or even private whispers about a permanent move to Toronto.

Qualifying Offers Can Begin: Teams can now begin giving qualifying tender offers to their restricted free agents. The Bills have three of them as the team's website learned, Shaud Williams is a restricted free agent not an unrestricted one. He joins Jim Leonhard and Jason Jefferson on the restricted list for the Bills. It is extremely unlikely that the team will give qualifying offers to Jefferson or Williams as they probably don't want to retain either player. Leonhard is a different story, they would like him back but a tender offer would cost them $927,000 with no compensation if he signed elsewhere since he was an undrafted free agent. The team may not tender him an offer and allow him to hit the open market in hopes of re-signing him for less money. Teams have until 4pm on February 28th to tender offers to their restricted and exclusive rights free agents.

Jauron Fills Out Staff: Dick Jauron has finished assembling his coaching staff by hiring former NFL defensive back Adrian White as his defensive quality control coach. This position did not exist last year under Jauron's staff. White has spent the last two summers as a volunteer coach for the Bills under the volunteer coaches fellowship program. He was the defensive coordinator for the Berlin Thunder in NFL Europe last spring. He had accepted the job of defensive coordinator and DB coach for Team Alabama in the new All-American Football league before coming to the Bills. He played six years in the NFL with the Giants, Packers, and Patriots from 1987 to 1993. He played under Jauron in 1992 in Green Bay where Jauron was the defensive backs coach.
Schobel In Pro Bowl: Aaron Schobel saw considerable playing time at the Pro Bowl in the 42-30 AFC loss to the NFC. He finished with just one assist. He was involved in the turning point of the game and failed to make a play. With the AFC leading 24-7, the NFL had a 4th and 13 as Tony Romo looked for someone open Schobel grabbed him but couldn't bring him down for a sack. Romo got a way and completed a 34 yard pass to Terrell Owens setting up an NFC score. They dominated the game from that point on.
