Rumors Swirl A Month Before Draft

McNabb Deal Not Imminent: Rumors swirled towards the end of the week as everyone wondered where will Donovan McNabb end up? St. Louis and Arizona were talked about but quickly dismissed. It appears that Buffalo and Oakland are the two teams most interested in him. All the talk made some people think a deal may be close. It isn't close, in fact the Eagles may not be totally convinced that they have to trade him. If a deal does happen look for it closer to draft team. McNabb says he rather stay in Philly which means a trade to Buffalo or Oakland would result in him playing out his contract this year. It isn't worth giving up a high draft pick if McNabb won't sign a long term deal. It's fun to talk about but he likely won't be in Buffalo and he will likely remain with the Eagles for the next couple of weeks at least.

Offseason Program Set To Start: The Bills announced that their offseason conditioning program will begin on Monday. It is voluntary but expect most players to take part in the program especially since their is a new coaching staff. The program will likely feature three to four days of meetings and workouts but no practices.

McNabb Rumors Rampant: Their are many rumors swirling about Donovan McNabb including sources that say the Bills are one of a few teams that have reportedly inquired about a possible trade. Another report says a deal with the Rams is imminent for the 33rd overall pick in the draft. The Rams deny the report. McNabb would rather go to a contender and he can stop a trade to Buffalo. If he did agree to come to a team like the Bills he likely wouldn't renegotiate his contract.

Scott, Wilson Backups: During Chan Gailey's comments to the media yesterday he gave a little insight to the depth chart. He referred to Kawika Mitchell as an inside linebacker. There was some speculation he may go outside with the signing of Andra Davis. He also said they have tremendous depth at safety calling Bryan Scott and George Wilson backups. That indicates that Donte Whitner is likely a starter again along with Jairus Byrd. We have updated our depth chart with the changes.

Team Likely To Draft RB: Chan Gailey spoke to the media yesterday at the owners meeting. Not much new came out of the conversations. Gailey did say the team will likely add a third running back in the draft and they will be looking for a scat back that has different qualities than Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson. Gailey said they will also likely add help along the defensive line but said he may have the best secondary he's ever had. He also said Tim Tebow has some great qualities but may not be an NFL quarterback. Gailey also cast the team's no vote on the playoff overtime changes. The Bills were one of four teams to vote against it.

Culpepper Want To Come To Buffalo: Duante Culpepper represents himself and is at the owners meeting shopping his services. He said the team on top of his list is Buffalo. He feels he can come to Buffalo and start and help the team. The Bills have made no overtures at bringing Culpepper in. Chan Gailey said yesterday he'd like to have the QB situation settled by the draft if possible. Do you think the Bills should give Culpepper a shot? Take our poll on our homepage and let us know. No Comp Picks: As expected the Bills were not awarded any compensatory picks in next month's draft. The team didn't lose more free agents last year than they signed. The Patriots lead the way with four comp picks.

Nix Speaks: GM Buddy Nix spoke to the media yesterday at the owners meeting. He joked that he was asleep when free agency started as the team's strategy was not to make a big splash but to use free agency to add experience to areas with big holes. He said offensive tackle remains a priority in the draft as they may take two. They also need depth at wide receiver and the interior of the offensive line. Nix did say Eric Wood is ahead of schedule but they need a backup plan. Nix also expects Marshawn Lynch to be on the team saying everyone gets a fresh start. Chan Gailey is expected to address the media from the owners meeting today.

Early Depth Chart: It is still very early in the off season and the Bills are in the process of totally overhauling their front seven of the defense. We took a stab at what we think the depth chart looks like right now. We left out all unrestricted free agents as well as restricted free agents that were not tendered an offer. We also left out Aaron Schobel as we wait for his decision on playing next year. Players are subject to changing around order and positions especially on defense. Depth Chart.
