Offseason Workouts Underway

Thursday April 13, 2017

Gillislee Visits Pats: New England may be looking to raid the Bills again. Last year, they signed RFA Chris Hogan to a deal the cap strapped Bills couldn't match this year they may have their sights set on Mike Gillislee. He visited with the Patriots according to various reports. They can try to structure a deal that will be tough for the Bills to match again although they do have a little more cap flexibility than last year. If the Pats do pry him away the Bills would get a 5th round pick as compensation. They will have a chance to match any offer. Teams have until April 21st to sign away any team's RFAs. Gillislee has been participating in the Bills offseason conditioning program and a SNY report says the the Bills are working on a long term deal with Gillislee that could be finalized in the next two weeks. The Pats may have something to say about it.

Bills Host CB: The Bills hosted free agent CB Shareece Wright today. He was a third round draft pick of the Chargers in 2011 and spent the last two years with Baltimore. For his career he has 228 tackles with 31 passes defensed, one interception, and a forced fumble. The Bills are still looking to add depth to a rather weak cornerbacks corps.

Preseason Schedule Released: The NFL released the preseason schedule today, The Bills will open up at home the week of August 10th to 14th against the Vikings at New Era Field. They travel to Philadelphia the following week from August 17th to 21st. Week 3 has them in Baltimore anywhere from Aug. 24th to 27th. They close out the preseason like they always do against the Lions. This year it's in Buffalo on either August 31st or September 1st. Exact dates and times to be announced at a later date.

Yates Signs: The Bills filled out their quarterback depth chart by signing free agent T.J. Yates. He visited on Friday and spent his first three years of his career with Rick Dennison as his offensive coordinator. He was traded to Atlanta in 2014 before returning to Houston in 2015. He tore his ACL and was out of football until signing with the Dolphins late last season but didn't appear in any games for Miami. Yates started two playoff games in his rookie season with one victory but has played sparingly since. He said he knows he is competing for a backup job with the Bills. He knows the scheme saying it gets the quarterback out of the pocket and relies on the running game. Front Office Page.

Bills Add A Seau: The Bills have signed the nephew of former NFL great Junior Seau. DE Ian Seau was with the Rams last summer as an undrafted free agent and was featured on Hard Knocks. He is now reunited with his former position coach Mike Waufle. Front Office Page.

Bills Host QB: The Bills announced that free agent QB T.J. Yates was in town for a free agent visit today. He spent three years under Offensive Coordinator Rick Dennison while with Houston and has two playoff starts in his career including one win. He would add veteran depth to the roster at a position that needs it.

Eight Players Signed: The Bills began filling out the backside of the 90 man roster adding eight players today brining the roster up to 69. Among the newest Bills is CB Marcus Cromartie who was already reported as a visitor. Also signed are: CB Bradley Sylve, DE Jake Metz, OT Cameron Jefferson, LB Jacob Lindsey, OL Jordan Mudge, LBs Junior Sylvestre and Eddie Yarbrough. These guys all have little NFL experience, besides Cromartie, and will likely be training camp fodder. Depth Chart.

Bills Reportedly Hosting CB: The Bills continue to host third tier free agents as Ian Rapoport reports they will host 49ers free agent CB Marcus Cromartie. Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee reports that visit will be today. He appeared in 21 games for San Francisco over the past three years with 21 tackles and 3 passes defensed.

Thurday April 6, 2017

Bills Host LB: ESPN's Adam Caplan reports that the Bills have hosted free agent linebacker Justin Durant. He is an 11 year veteran who was with the Cowboys in a reserve role last year. He also played for the Falcons, Jaguars, and Lions.

McDermott On WGR: Sean McDermott was on the John Murphy show today on WGR. They just had their team meeting to end the first week of the offseason conditioning program. Attendance was great, coaches did a great job in the classroom, and the conditioning staff did a great job making sure everyone was doing what they are suppose to. They get four hours a day in the building and they are laying the foundation of the scheme while getting everyone stronger and in better shape. They went through guidelines during their first meeting on Monday. They went with the approach of less is more at this point. They outlined what they expected on the field and off the field. They celebrate the standard when they get it but when it's not up to the daily standard they will correct it right away so they know what is expected, and when it is expected. He is a big believer in chemistry and culture so he made sure everyone got to know each other including people like Rick in the mailroom and Nadine in the cafeteria. They played the game name that teammate and had fun with it. He thought it was important to reach out to the alumni and let them know how important they are that is why he met with the seven Bills greats this week. He was able to try and figure out what made them tick and they gave him a great learning environment. He listened a lot and to be in the room with them was humbling. The biggest takeaway was the love the guys have for each other and the lifelong friendships they have. He took notes about what it takes to have the chemistry those great Bills teams had.

Monday April 3, 2017

Bills Host FA Visitor: The free agent frenzy may be long over but there are still free agents out there and visits as well. The Bills hosted CB B.W. Webb. He has played for four teams the past four years but had a career high eight starts last season. He has experience on the perimiter and the slot. In other free agent news, Zach Brown is officially gone as he has signed with the Redskins. Front Office Page.

Offseason Conditioning Begins: Today marks the beginning of the Bills offseason conditioning program. Five teams with new coaches get to start two weeks early but only the Bills and the Chargers are starting now. The players are working mostly in the weight room with some on the field work with the strength and conditioning staff. Eric Wood, Sammy Watkins, and Cyrus Kouandjio are working on the side as they rehab injuries and surgeries. Tyrod Taylor does not appear limited. LeSean McCoy is not in attendance today but it is voluntary.
