WEEK IN REVIEW - JUNE 30TH - JULY 6TH, 2003 PREVIOUS WEEK

No News During Dog Days Of Summer

The offseason doldrums continue as next to no news came out of One Bills Drive. The big news from Bill Conaty finding a new home. Here is our take on the few issues from the week:

Bill Conaty found a new home as the New England Patriots signed him to a one year deal worth roughly $650,000. Originally, it was thought that Conaty would re-sign with the Bills but the team decided to go with the youth movement for the backup line positions. Our Take: We think it would have been a good idea to keep Conaty as a Bill, now they may have to face him twice a year if he can crack the starting lineup with the Patriots.

Although the Bills didn't announce it, hidden on their website was the new price of parking at the stadium. It will now cost you $15 to park your car at the games this year. Our Take: In a financially strapped town charging more money to park then it does for most major sporting events in New York City is deplorable. What helps add to the county coffers is that people don't carpool to games since they need the vehicles for tailgating.

Shout Newspaper has published its last issue. American Sports Media is the company that owns Shout, they are now teaming up with the Bills to form a new publication called Bills Digest. The first issue will be out in late July to culminate with the start of training camp. People with subscriptions to Shout will get the new publication instead. Former WGR and Empire reporter Chris Brown is the editor. Our Take: Our concern is that since the Bills are involved, we may not get the unbiased coverage that we are used to from Shout. The coverage may be sugar coating, the good thing, is that there may be more inside stories including a weekly column from Coach Williams.

Willis McGahee told the Florida media that he is doing well in his rehabilitation and that it is a secret as to when he will return to the field. Our Take: McGahee may be getting his hopes up for a return at the start of the season, the reality is he is headed for the PUP list until at least week 10.
