Bills Fall Flat In Exhibition Loss To Titans

AP Photo - J.P. Losman and Marshawn Lynch Players Who Helped Themselves: Very few people helped themselves in the terrible loss to the Titans. All aspects of the game struggled for the Bills. One player that stood out in helping his cause was Peerless Price. There has been talk of him losing his grip on the #2 slot but he caught three balls for 78 yards including a 56 yard reception. He also got open deep last week but the wind stopped a long gainer from being connected.

Players Who Hurt Themselves: Other than the play of Peerless Price and of course the great play of Lee Evans the rest of the team pretty much stunk. Players that hurt themselves include, but aren't limited too, Paul Posluszny and the entire offensive line, while we are at it how about the entire defense. There were too many missed tackles and Posluszny had a bone headed late hit penalty. The offensive line doesn't look any better from the free agent acquisitions yet. They still may need time to jell but need to hurry it up. There were no holes in the running game and the QBs were running for their lives most of the game.

McGee Hurt: Terrence McGee appeared to be the only big injury in the loss to the Titans last night. He suffered a concussion and did not return. Dick Jauron said it is highly unlikely he will play in the preseason finale. They did get other bumps and bruises in the game but no other injuries. J.P. Losman had his lower leg wrapped in ice for a while after he came off the field but he's ok. Josh Scobey, Brad Butler, Aaron Merz, Melvin Fowler, and Sam Aiken did not play. Injury Page.

Schobel Gets New Deal: After tonight's loss to the Titans it was announced that the Bills will keep Aaron Schobel in a Bills uniform for a very long time. He signed a 4- year contract extension worth up to $50.5 Million that will run until 2013 and includes $21 Million in guaranteed money. It appears it will make Schobel the highest paid player in team history. He had three years left on his current deal. He said the team didn't have to do this and he loves playing in the small town atmosphere. It was wondered how Schobel felt about the free agent deal signed by Chris Kelsay this offseason that temporarily made him higher paid then Schobel. He acknowledged that he did approach the Bills about a new deal. Was this the right move? Take our poll on our homepage and let us know.

Bills Lose To Titans 28-17: The Bills fell to 1-2 in the preseason with a 28-17 loss to the Titans. J.P. Losman completed two long bombs including a 64 yard touchdown pass to Lee Evans in a half of action but he struggled otherwise finishing 9 of 20 for 180 yards and a touchdown and interception. Not the breakout performance fans were looking for. Craig Nall followed Losman but couldn't get the team in the end zone, he was 4 for 7 for 38 yards before being replaced by Trent Edwards who was solid in relief once again. He led to the team to their final scoring drive, a Fred Jackson 1 yard touchdown run. Jackson led the team with 31 yards on just four carries. Marshawn Lynch struggled gaining just nine yards on nine carries.

Several Out Tonight: Several Bills will not play tonight because of injury. One player that is hurt that is expected to play is Angelo Crowell. Not playing are Brad Butler, Melvin Fowler, Aaron Merz, and Josh Scobey. Duke Preston will start at center for the 2nd straight week for Fowler and take some snaps with the 2nd team at right guard. Jason Whittle will once again start at right guard. John DiGiorgio will start at middle linebacker as Dick Jauron keeps with his rotation plan. While most starters are expected to play at least a half, Jauron is expected to rotate Paul Posluszny into the game in the 2nd quarter. The coach also confirmed that Craig Nall will see some playing time tonight, just how much or when is up in the air. Injury Page.

Team Returns Home: The players are back at One Bills Drive and will workout today before facing the Titans tomorrow night at Ralph Wilson Stadium before a soldout crowd on Kids Day. The players must be happy sleeping in their own beds although there is still a lot of work to do before they kick it off for real in two and a half weeks.

Aiken Likely Out: Sam Aiken missed today's final practice with a hip flexor injury suffered yesterday. He likely will miss this week's game against the Titans. Angelo Crowell did participate on a limited basis today and may play on Friday. Melvin Fowler and Brad Butler practiced sparingly as well. Aaron Merz and Josh Scobey were sidelined today. Injury Page.

Bills Break Camp: Training camp is now over as the team finished it up with a practice this morning at St. John Fisher College. They now finish preparing for the season at the complex at Ralph Wilson Stadium. The final workout was without pads and lasted 90 minutes. The newest Bill Al Wallace practiced and will learn both sides according to Dick Jauron. Wallace said he's happy to be in Buffalo and will help the team anyway he can. They plan on giving him action during Friday night's preseason game. Jauron said the starters will play at least a half and may go into the third quarter. He hasn't decided who will be the 2nd quarterback yet against the Titans.

Game Soldout: Friday's preseason game against the Titans is soldout and will be broadcasted live in Western New York. It is the fourth straight sellout for the Bills annual Kids Day game. The first 10,000 youngsters receive a free radio/pedometer. There will be a kids day carnival outside the stadium before the game.

Wallace Signing Official: The Bills made it official today they have signed veteran DE Al Wallace to a contract. He immediately moves in to the team's defensive end rotation and will likely be the third end off the bench. He has been the third defensive end at Carolina the past five years. Perry Fewell called him a big man with good agility who was the best available defensive end out there. He is more of a pass rushing specialist then a run stopper. What do you think of the signing? Let us know by taking the poll on our homepage. Depth Chart.

Camp Breaks Today: Training camp comes to an end today after a workout at 11am today. The team will finish preparing for the season back at One Bills Drive. There are still position battles to be determined. It is unknown at this point who will start at right guard, middle linebacker, running back, and who will be the number two QB. It appears Trent Edwards now has the inside track on the backup QB job. Paul Posluszny will likely be the middle linebacker and it appears like Jason Whittle may win the left guard starting job.

Bills Getting Help At DE? AP is reporting that the Bills are close to adding some help at the depleted defensive end position. Seven year veteran Al Wallace is close to signing a deal with the team after working out for them today in Rochester according to his agent. He cancelled plans to travel back home to North Carolina after his workout. He was a salary cap cut of the Carolina Panthers after spending five years there. He never missed a game in Carolina and had 133 tackles and 17 sacks. He had three sacks last year and 23 for his career including six forced fumbles and four interceptions.

Final Pads Practice: The Bills held their final practice in pads this afternoon before finishing up camp with a no pads workout tomorrow. It was a good physical practice today with both sides winning some battles. The offense was able to move the ball on the ground a bit. Dwayne Wright ran well and will get more snaps on Friday night according to Coach Jauron. Trent Edwards continues to get more of the second team snaps instead of Craig Nall. Edwards hit Jonathan Smith for a touchdown during a two minute drill.

Injury List Lengthy: The list of banged up players continues to get bigger as camp comes to an end tomorrow. Sam Aiken was banged up today and left practice, no word on what he hurt or how bad. Jason Whittle was under the weather and left practice early today as well. Brad Butler, Angelo Crowell, Melvin Fowler, and Aaron Merz were sidelined today. Josh Scobey took part in some individual drills. Injury Page.

Hargrove Back In Court: Anthony Hargrove went back to court today. In the five minute hearing he was ordered to attend a pretrial hearing on September 7th. This is for the misdemeanor charges for his nightclub incident earlier this month.

Final Night Practice: The Bills held their final night practice of training camp under some crisp weather conditions last night. J.P. Losman had a good night as his arm looked strong. He hit Lee Evans for a 50 yard touchdown pass according to the team's website. He also hit Marshawn Lynch for a score. Donte Whitner had an interception as he built on the solid showing he had against Atlanta.

Surgery Successful: Dick Jauron said the surgery was a success on the broken foot of Ryan Denney. There is no timetable on his return, although it will be a while at the very least. Not practicing last night do to injuries were Angelo Crowell, Melvin Fowler, Aaron Merz, Donovan Morgan, and Josh Scobey. Trevor Hooper returned to practice after missing a week with a concussion. Scobey is getting closer to returning as he some work on the sidelines with trainers. Peerless Price is practicing despite a dislocated finger. Injury Page.

Monday August 20, 2007

Butler Back: The Bills got one player back yesterday during an abbreviated 45 minute practice that was nothing more than a walkthrough to get out the soreness. Brad Butler participated on a limited basis. Remaining out are Angelo Crowell, Melvin Fowler, and Josh Scobey. Injury Page.

Extra Reps For Schobel, Kelsay: Dick Jauron admitted yesterday that it is likely that Aaron Schobel and Chris Kelsay will have to take more reps this year. Both players said they will do what is needed but the attack to the ball defense will suffer if they have to play almost every down. The team will look for someone on the roster to step up and scour the waiver wires for veteran help at defensive end. Eric Powell seems to be the one player on the roster that may get some reps. He was on the roster last year although he was inactive every week. He also had a strong game against the Falcons.
