NEWS ARCHIVES - DEC 10TH - DEC 16TH, 2007 PREVIOUS WEEK

Bills Playoff Hopes Plowed Under

AP Photo - Trent Edwards Offense Awful In Snow: The California QB Trent Edwards got a good initiation into a good old fashion rust belt snowstorm. He did not perform well and didn't really do anything until the snow stopped late in the fourth quarter when he was trying a desperation drive that fell short. It should be a good learning experience but the grades won't be good after the team was shutout. Gameday Grades.

Bills Lose 8-0: In a game played mostly in a blinding snow storm the Bills were shutout for the first time in three years by losing to the Browns 8-0. All the scoring was in the first half as Phil Dawson hit two big field goals in the elements. The Bills also gave up a safety when a snap went over the head of Brian Moorman and into the end zone before he kicked it through for the two points. The Bills did nothing offensively until their final drive that ended at the Browns 10 yard line when a 4th and 5 screen pass went for no yards. Game Review.

Butler Banged Up: Brad Butler suffered an eye injury in the third quarter and was helped to the sidelines. He was replaced by Duke Preston and his return was questionable but he did come back late in the game. Lee Evans got banged up on the final drive and had to come out for a play but came back in. Injury Page.

Kelsay Active: Chris Kelsay is active for the game today. We already knew that Coy Wire and Copeland Bryan would be among the inactives as they were declared out on Friday. The other inactives are Ryan Neufeld, Jerametrius Butler, Shaud Williams, Jason Jefferson and Christian Gaddis. Gibran Hamdan is the emergency third QB. That means that recently signed linebacker Blake Costanzo is active.

Football In The Snow: Many fans love watching games played in heavy snow, Bills fans get their wish today. The snow is expected to get heavy around noon today as this game will be played in heavy snow and wind as we reported yesterday. They are expecting a wintry mix in the morning before the heavy snow dumps 5 to 8 inches. The bigger problem may be the wind as it will be out of the south southeast shifting to the west at 25 to 35 mph. The Bills may have a problem leaving Cleveland as they are expecting blizzard conditions at night with the snow continuing. Both teams prepared for the weather by practicing outside on Friday and both coaches say they have contingency game plans for the storm. It should be interesting to watch.

Weather May Help Bills: Weather will be a factor at many games around the NFL tomorrow like it usually does in December. It will be no different in Cleveland for the big game. There will be a significant winter storm that will start as a wintry mix and then is expected to turn into a full fledge snow storm during the day on Sunday with very cold temperatures with winds from 20 to 30 mph. This has to help the Bills as it should ground the high powered air attack of the Browns. It has caused us to update our prediction and preview. We will update the weather conditions tomorrow morning. Complete Preview.

Parrish Signs Extension: An unusually busy Friday at One Bills Drive got busier tonight when it was announced that Roscoe Parrish agreed to a contract extension. Details of the deal were not immediately known. Parrish had a year left on his original four year, $2.7 Million deal. The Bills will look to lock up several players long term this offseason since they have no big name free agents this coming off season but many after the 2008 season. Parrish is one less name on that list.

Edwards Wins Award: For the second straight week, Trent Edwards was voted the Diet Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week for his four touchdown performance last week against Miami. The award is voted on by the fans on the internet.

Wilson on IR: The Bills placed George Wilson on injured reserve making him the 14th player to be on the list. He had hoped to return in time for the playoffs but the Bills needed the roster spot. They activated LB Blake Costanzo from the practice squad. They needed an extra linebacker with Coy Wire being declared out for the game on Sunday. Depth Chart.

Kelsay In; Wire Out: It appears Chris Kelsay will play against Cleveland after practicing for a third straight day today. He's officially listed as questionable. Coy Wire will not play after missing practice for a second straight day. He did practice on Wednesday but appeared to have a setback during the week. Injury Page.

Thursday December 13, 2007

Kelsay Appears Ready: Chris Kelsay practiced on a limited basis for the second straight day and says he's ready to go. He is surprised how good he does feel and didn't have any problems after coming through Wednesday's workout with little swelling. Coy Wire did not practice today after practicing on Wednesday. Anthony Hargrove was absent today for personal reasons. Injury Page.

Everett Visiting? WGRZ-TV is reporting that Kevin Everett is planning to visit Buffalo for the home finale on December 23rd against the Giants. The report says that his Grandfather has confirmed the visit. This comes on the heel of a stirring article in this week's Sports Illustrated. Everett is now walking on his own up to 50 yards.

Kelsay, Wire Practice: Chris Kelsay and Coy Wire both took part in practice today and both will likely play on Sunday if they make it through the rest of the week ok. Kelsay was limited but Wire practiced fully. Ryan Denney took his usual Wednesday off from practice and Copeland Bryan remains sidelined. George Wilson was back with the team today after his hospital stay for broken ribs. He's already feeling better and hopes to be ready for the playoffs if the Bills are fortunate enough to make it that far. Injury Page.

Fairchild Staying Until End Of Season: It is now official, Steve Fairchild is leaving the Bills to become the new head coach at Colorado State. He is staying with the Bills until the end of the season. Officials at Colorado State say they knew from the outset that Fairchild wouldn't leave Buffalo until the end of the season and that is one of the reasons they wanted him. They like his commitment, integrity, honesty, accountability and responsibility to the team. Dick Jauron said that Fairchild is excited about the opportunity the Bills have going down the stretch and he doesn't anticipate any changes to his coaching staff at this time. Jauron figures there is a chance Fairchild takes other members of the staff with him to Colorado. Fairchild is expected to devote some time down the stretch to getting his staff together while still in Buffalo but he won't be doing any traveling at this time. Lee Evans and Trent Edwards both said that it won't affect the team heading into the big showdown this week. The gameplan is set and Fairchild will call the game like always.

Fairchild Deal Done: Reports now say that Colorado State is expected to announce this afternoon that Steve Fairchild will indeed be their new head coach leaving the Bills looking for a new offensive coordinator. No word yet on if Fairchild will finish the season with the Bills. Fairchild played for the college and was also a QB coach and then offensive coordinator there before leaving to coach in the pros. Hopefully the timing of this move won't be a distraction as the Bills prepare for the big game with Cleveland on Sunday. Let us know what you think by taking our poll on our homepage.

Fairchild Leaving? WGR radio is reporting that offensive coordinator Steve Fairchild has been tapped to take over the head coaching job at Colorado State. According to a report in the Sporting News he has already begun to contact assistance. There is no confirmation on this story at this time. We'll keep you updated.

Huge Game Sunday: "The Battle of Lake Erie" is going to be the biggest game the Bills have played in since the season finale in 2004. That is why we have released our preview a day early to get the fans pumped up for the game. It will be tough for the Bills to stay toe to toe with the Browns offensively and even tougher playing in the Dawg Pound. Complete Preview.

No Move For Bills/Giants Game: The NFL has decided to move the game between the Vikings and the Redskins to primetime on NBC next Sunday December 23rd. There had been rumors that the Bills game with the Giants would be moved but that isn't the case. It will remain at 1pm.

Wilson Out For Regular Season: Dick Jauron confirmed today that George Wilson is probably going to miss the last three games of the regular season and they need to evaluate the situation to see if they need to make a move. He remains in the hospital today before rejoining the team. The team has today and tomorrow off. Jim Leonhard will start in his place. Jauron is hopeful that Chris Kelsay and Coy Wire will be available for the big game in Cleveland. They will have to wait until Wednesday to see how Josh Stamer is doing. He left the game with a neck stinger. Injury Page.

RB Duo To Continue: The two 100 yard rushing games from Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson is exactly the combination one two punch that the Bills hoped they would get with Lynch healthy and the emergence of Jackson. Dick Jauron said that they would continue to use them as a combo although Lynch will get a few more carries as he rounds back into shape from his ankle injury. They will use a rotation but go with the hot hand. Both of them were hot yesterday and they both say they welcome the rotation.
