June To Texans: Cato June is no longer available. The free agent LB signed with the Texans. He visited with the Bills a month ago but the Bills did not make a move to sign him. He is now in Houston. The Bills signed Pat Thomas and they figure Keith Ellison is ok as one of the outside starting linebackers.

Bills To Get State Aid: The proposed New York State budget now has almost $3 Million in payments to the Bills for stadium improvements. This state is obligated to give this money to the Bills as part of the 1998 lease agreement. The Bills have become increasingly frustrated recently that they did not get the money from last year let alone this year. This move gives the Bills the money they need to perform maintenance and upkeep on Ralph Wilson Stadium along with improvements they have had on their agenda. If the money was not given to the team they would have the option to leave.

Brandon Talks Peters Contract: Russ Brandon spoke to the Buffalo News as the owners meeting last week and admitted that the Bills and Jason Peters are far apart in negotiations on a new contract. Peters has not taken part in the voluntary offseason program and the threat of another long holdout looms. Brandon admitted getting the Peters situation resolved is a priority. When asked about the possibility of a trade he said it's way too early to talk trade as they are trying to work on a new deal. Brandon considers Peters one of the cornerstones of the franchise. Dialogue continues and they hope to make headway over the next few weeks but Brandon said it takes two sides to get a deal done.

Preseason Schedule Announced: The Bills announced today their full slate of preseason games. It starts with the previous announced Hall of Fame game against Tennessee on Aug. 9th at 8pm. They host Chicago the following week. They then travel to Green Bay to take on the Packers the following week. They travel to play the Steelers during week four and close out the preseason, like they so often do, against Detroit at home. There is no preseason game in Toronto this year. Dates and Times of the final four preseason games will be announced in the next few months.

Hardy On The Mend: James Hardy has spent the offseason in Buffalo rehabbing from the torn ACL he suffered late last season against the Jets. He is encouraged that he's ahead of schedule in his recovery. He is working out in the pool now. He is expected to return to practice in August and is hoping to hit the field in time for the last preseason game. Injury Page.

Bills On Saban: The Bills released a statement yesterday regarding the death of Lou Saban. "Buffalo Bills owner Ralph Wilson, Jr. and the entire Bills organization is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Lou Saban. Coach Saban’s knowledge of the game and unique personality were the perfect fit for the early years of the American Football League. Talented, enthusiastic and colorful, Coach Saban’s style of coaching left an indelible mark on the AFL and professional football. As our organization prepares to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the American Football League and our franchise, we are sad today that Lou Saban will not be here to share it with us. But his spirit will be remembered long after the celebration is over. Mr. Wilson and the Bills organization pass along their deepest sympathies to Coach Saban’s wife Joyce and their entire family during this difficult time."
