Bills Wrap Up Off Season Workouts

Bell Should Be Ready: Chan Gailey said yesterday that Demetrius Bell is almost fully healed from his knee injury and should be full go in time for the start of training camp. Bell has missed the entire offseason program as he recovered from his torn ACL. This should mean that the entire projected starting offensive line will be together from day one of camp as Eric Wood should be ready as well after practicing on a limited basis during the minicamp and OTAs this past week. No word on the recovery of Nic Harris who missed the entire offseason because of knee surgery as well. Ed Wang remains sidelined with a leg injury as well. Keith Ellison missed the entire minicamp because of an undisclosed injury that he was receiving treatment for on Wednesday. Injury Page.

Bills Waive Johnson: The Bills have waived DB Brett Johnson leaving the roster at 79 signed players. They will use that open spot once they sign another draft pick. The top three draft picks remain unsigned at this point. Johnson wasn't getting many reps in the very crowded defensive backfield. Depth Chart.

QB Pecking Order Will Wait: Chan Gailey addressed the media after today's final minicamp workout and said the QBs will be told of the pecking order for the start of training camp when they get back. He said he kind of knows what that order is but it is still open. He did say that Brian Brohm has made a nice jump over the last two weeks and has been practicing very well. The coach also said the battle for the number two wide receiver spot is wide open. He expects to activate five of them on gamedays.

Minicamp Ends: The Bills wrapped up their mandatory minicamp with a practice this morning. The players are now off until the start of training camp on July 29th. Demeterius Bell sat out again on Friday which means he has missed the entire offseason recovering from the knee injury suffered last season. Ed Wang also missed practice all week after suffering an injury earlier in the organized team activities.

Afternoon Update: Jairus Byrd was back on the field in the afternoon after taking the morning practice off. The Bills are being careful with the players coming off of injuries and not making them do too much. Kawika Mitchell and Marcus Stroud split the day as they did yesterday. Both missed the afternoon session after practicing in the morning. The Bills website reports that Jamon Meredith and Ashton Youboty missed both practice sessions today and Reggie Torbor did not practice in the afternoon.

Morning Session Notes: The Bills stayed in the fieldhouse for this morning's minicamp workout. Eric Wood did not practice this morning and according to WGR it wasn't a great day for the quarterbacks once again as they overthrew several passes although Stevie Johnson and James Hardy continued their battle for the number two wide receiver job. Each player made nice plays. The QB rotation continued as the players are getting equal reps and moving up and down in the order. Ryan Fitzpatrick said he hopes to have an idea of the pecking order before leaving minicamp tomorrow.

Afternoon Session: Day one of the mandatory minicamp is over. After practicing for a good part of the morning session, Eric Wood was watching in the afternoon session. The team practiced the two minute drill in the afternoon. Kawika Mitchell and Marcus Stroud also watched the afternoon workout while Keith Ellison was still not on the sidelines or the field. Corey McIntyre left the afternoon session with an illness according to the team's website.

Brohm Looks Good: According to WGR Brian Brohm looked the best of all the quarterbacks in this morning's opening workout of the minicamp. All three got almost equal reps under center. Besides Keith Ellison and Aaron Schobel, Ed Wang, Demetrius Bell, and Nic Harris were on the sidelines but not practicing.

Schobel, Ellison Gets Treatment: The mandatory minicamp is underway and as expected Aaron Schobel is not participating. Keith Ellison also was not on the field but he was getting treatment in the facility. Everyone else, including Marshawn Lynch is there.

Minicamp Begins: The only mandatory workouts of the offseason kick off today when the Bills begin their three day minicamp that will have five practices in total. The team will hit the field today from 10:55am to 12:15pm and then again this afternoon from 3:45 to 5:15. They will also have two workouts tomorrow and one on Friday before everyone gets more than a month off before training camp.

Wood Continues Recovery: The Bills wrapped up their offseason organized team activities yesterday and Lee Evans told the team's website that Eric Wood took part in team drills. This comes a day after he practiced on a limited basis. He continues to make a quick recovery from the gruesome broken leg suffered last season.

Monday June 21, 2010

Wood Practices: Some good injury news for the Bills as they kick started their last two days of OTAs today. As Chan Gailey reported last week, Eric Wood hit the practice field for the first time today way ahead of schedule. It was after a nasty broken leg last year that some wondered if he would ever be able to return. He only took part in individual drills with the line and didn't go up against the defense but it is an important first step for the young guard. He said it felt good and he hopes to take part in 11-on-11 drills during the mandatory minicamp later this week. Injury Page.

Busy Week Ahead: The last busy week before training camp kicks off today with the final voluntary organized team activities getting underway. The team will have 90 minute practices today and tomorrow beginning shortly after noon. This will be followed by the only mandatory three day minicamp of the offseason Wednesday through Friday. There will be two practices on Wednesday and Thursday and one on Friday before the players get about a month off before the start of training camp. We will keep you updated all week long on the latest from One Bills Drive.
