NEWS ARCHIVES - MAY 10TH - MAY 23RD, 2010 PREVIOUS WEEK

Rookies Continue To Learn

Lynch To Show Up: Voluntary workouts start this week and Marshawn Lynch told Yahoo sports that he will be in attendance and will return to beast mode. Lynch has not taken part in any of the team's offseason workouts but will be there for the voluntary workouts that start on Tuesday. Lynch says he doesn't think of himself as a number three running back but he still thinks he's a number one and looks to prove it to the Bills. Then it is up to the team if they take advantage of his talents.

Open Practice: Fans will be able to get a first look at the 2010 Buffalo Bills. The team will host an open practice at Ralph Wilson Stadium on Saturday June 5th at 3pm. This will be in the middle of a voluntary mini-camp. There will be free parking and the gates will open at 2pm. You will be able to select a seat for season tickets during the event as well.

Losman Signs With Seahawks: Former Bills first round pick J.P. Losman has a new home. He signed a one year deal with the Seattle Seahawks worth a reported $630,000. Losman played in one NFL game last year for Oakland after playing in the UFL.

Rookie Tour: The Bills held their annual rookie bus tour around the Buffalo and Niagara regions. The yearly event helps get the rookies familiar with the area and they stopped to talk to kids in Niagara Falls as one of their stops. They also stopped at a coffee shop.

Rookie Workouts: There are no official workouts scheduled until the start of organized team activities next Tuesday. Most rookies however are back in Buffalo this week for voluntary workouts. This extra work for the young guys allows them to get used to the speed of the pro game before they workout with the veterans.

Bills Release Two: The Bills have released two players today. They said goodbye to RB Walter Mendenhall who was signed on April 7th. The signing of Chad Simpson yesterday made him expendable. They also released OL Kyle Mutcher. He was an undrafted free agent signed on May 3rd. Front Office Page.

Cushing Holds On To Award: The re-vote is now complete and Brian Cushing gets to hold on to his NFL defensive rookie of the year award. Jairus Byrd once again finished second this time he was just five votes behind Cushing. In the original vote he was 33 votes behind him.

Bills Sign RB; Waive DL: The Bills made a roster move today signing free agent RB Chad Simpson. To make room for him on the 80 man roster they waived DE Marlon Favorite. Simpson spent the past two years with the Colts but was released in April. He returned 38 kicks for 898 including a 93 yard touchdown return last season. He also gained 102 yards on 15 carries. Favorite was signed by the Bills in March before being released today. He played on the end during the recent minicamp. Depth Chart.

Preseason Schedule Set: The dates and times are now set for the Bills preseason schedule. Their preseason opener will be on Friday Aug. 13th at 7:30pm in Washington. The game in Toronto will be the following Thursday at 7:30pm against Indianapolis. Their lone Ralph Wilson stadium game will be the annual kids day event on Sat. Aug. 28th at 6:30pm. They close on Thursday Sept. 2nd in Detroit at 7pm. Schedule Page.

Byrd Rookie Of The Year? The AP has decided to cast a re-vote for NFL defensive rookie of the year because of the four game suspension incurred by the winner Brian Cushing. He violated the league's steriod policy. Jairus Byrd finished a very distant second place so instead of giving him the award there will be a re-vote and Cushing will be involved in the re-vote so he can still win the award.

Players Get Week Off: The rookie camp is now in the rearview mirror and all players have scattered and are off this week. The rookies are due back next Monday for voluntary workouts. The rookies are not allowed by the league to take their playbooks with them when they leave Buffalo but they are allowed to take their notes with them and study those. Gailey said it is not fruitful to start from scratch when they get back on the field so they need to stay in their notes so they can pick up where they left off. The veterans are expected to hit the field for voluntary workouts with the rookies on May 25th. Chan Gailey expects good attendance for the organized team activities.
