First Week Of Training Camp In The Books
Florence Out 4-6 Days: Drayton Florence will miss 4-6 days according to Chan Gailey. He suffered a sprained ankle yesterday. That means he will miss the preseason opener on Saturday in Chicago. Demetrius Bell may miss that game as well since he has a strained shoulder that will keep him out at least a few days. Shawn Nelson remains sidelined with a muscle pull and may not return until midweek at the earliest.
Howard Returns: Cordaro Howard hit the practice field for the first time at St. Johns Fisher this camp. He passed his physical and was taken off the physically unable to perform list. He was still recovering from offseason shoulder surgery. He returned just in time to take second team reps at left tackle today after Demetrius Bell left practice. He injured his shoulder and will miss days according to Chan Gailey.
Merriman, Williams Returns: Shawne Merriman and Aaron Williams returned to practice when the Bills took to the turf field today for a rainy day of practice. Merriman missed two days with some soreness and to get some rest. Williams left practice early yesterday with a hand injury but it must have been minor since he was back on the field quickly. Also sitting today were Justin Rogers, Drayton Florence, Donald Jones, Shawn Nelson, Kellen Heard, Marcus Easley, and Kelvin Sheppard. Roscoe Parrish and Demetrius Bell left practice early. Merriman Sits Again: Shawne Merriman got his second straight day of rest as he did not take part in tonight's practice. He is suffering from some soreness in his legs but Chan Gailey said it's not related to his Achilles injury. Also sitting were Shawn Nelson, Justin Rogers, Donald Jones, Marcus Easley, and Kelvin Sheppard. 2nd round pick Aaron Williams left practice early with a hand injury and will be re-evaluated. Jones is new to the list of banged up players. He had his lower right calf wrapped. In positive injury news, David Nelson and David Martin returned to practice. Injury Page.
Nelson Returns To Camp: David Nelson was sent back to Buffalo for tests yesterday after he left practice on Thursday because he had difficulty breathing. Whatever it was, they had it calmed down according to the coach. He was seen back at camp this morning and told the team's website he is ready to go. Shawne Merriman did not practice yesterday as he was given a day off. David Martin missed his second straight practice with a toe injury and Shawn Nelson did not practice. Marcell Dareus returned to practice after tweaking an ankle on Thursday but he was hampered a bit by the injury. Justin Rogers left yesterday's practice early with a twisted ankle. Injury Page.
RB Swap: The Bills decided to switch a pair of rookie running backs for a new pair of players at the position. One of the players is familiar with Bills fans as Bruce Hall returns to the team. He was on the practice squad in 2008 and 2009. He was on the Broncos practice squad last year. The other new Bill is Anthony Elzy. He is an undrafted rookie from North Carolina and was 5th round pick Johnny White's backup with the Tarheels and played when White got hurt. The Bills released rookie RBs Emmanuel Moody and Vai Taua. Free Agents Practice: The Bills held a spirited, physical practice in front of a full house at St. Johns Fisher last night. With the CBA ratified, Drayton Florence, Nick Barnett, Tyler Thigpen, Brad Smith, Garrison Sanborn, and Scott Chandler got to hit the practice field for the first time. Thigpen took many reps with the 2nd team at quarterback while Barnett and Florence lined up with the starters. There was a scare when Marcell Dareus went down with a leg injury but he is expected to be ok. David Nelson didn't finish practice after having trouble breathing and David Martin missed practice with a toe injury. Injury Page.
Davis Signed: The Bills made a roster move yesterday by adding free agent wide receiver Craig "Buster" Davis. The former first round draft pick of the Chargers was picked in 2007 while Buddy Nix was with San Diego. He had trouble getting on, and staying on, the field as he had a serious groin injury in 2008. He has appeared in only 26 games in four season with 51 career catches. Last year he had a career high 21 catches for 259 yards and a score. The team released CB Donovon Cook. He was waived/injured after hurting his knee. His rights will revert back to the Bills when he clears waivers and will go on injured reserve. Front Office Page.

Back To Work: The Bills go back to work tonight for a full practice after a morning walk through today. They hopefully will have their full complement of players for the first time. If the CBA is ratified by the 4pm deadline today then free agents will be able to practice for the first time. That means Drayton Florence, Nick Barnett, Tyler Thigpen, Brad Smith, Garrison Sanborn, and Scott Chandler can take the field for the first time. There are some issues with the ratification of the CBA still outstanding which could delay when these guys get on the field.
Wilson Donates To Hall: Ralph Wilson once again showed off his charitable side yesterday. His foundation has donated $2.5 Million to the Pro Football Hall of Fame to be used towards the $27 Million renovation project. They will honor him by renaming the research center the Ralph Wilson, Jr. Pro Football Research and Preservation Center.

Nelson Banged Up: Shawn Nelson got banged up late in practice when he got his leg rolled up on. He limped off the field but it is considered just a tweak. Chan Gailey said he may be able to get on the field tomorrow night. He will benefit from the two day layoff as the team is off today and don't have a full practice again until tomorrow night. The coach confirmed that Donovan Cook will be out a month or more. Injury Page.

Cook Out 4-6 Weeks? It looks like the Bills have their first major injury in camp. The Buffalo News reports that free agent DB Domonic Cook from UB could miss 4-6 weeks. Initial reports say he has a torn meniscus although he is still being evaluated according to the report. He suffered the injury in practice last night and was scene on crutches at the morning walk through today. Injury Page.
Sheppard, Easley To Miss A Week: Chan Gailey updated the injury situation after last night's practice, which was the first one in pads. He said both Marcus Easley and Kelvin Sheppard are expected to miss at least a week with their injuries. He confirmed Sheppard suffered a hamstring injury and will be re-evaluated in a week. Donovan Cook continued his tough training camp as he left practice last night with a knee injury. There was some good news on the injury front as Reggie Corner came off the PUP list and was back on the field last night. The Bills have a morning walkthrough today followed by an afternoon practice session. Injury Page.

Sheppard, Easley Banged Up: Marcus Easley missed the night practice last night after coming off the field early on Saturday. He hyperextended his surgically repaired knee and did not return to Saturday's practice. Chan Gailey said the injury is obvious on film and it could have happened to anyone. The top three draft picks all couldn't finish yesterday's practice. Kelvin Sheppard was the most serious of the three, he left last night's workout early when he apparently tweaked a hamstring muscle. No word how long he'll be out. Marcell Dareus just cramped up a bit and should be ok. Aaron Williams was having another fine day of practice when he went out after being shaken up when he got kicked in the back of the head. Injury Page.
Defensive Line Swap: The Bills have claimed DE Lionel Dotson off of waiver from Miami. The team released DE Jordan Topp but still have an open roster spot on the expanded 90 man roster. Dotson played in seven games over the last three years in Miami. He was a former seventh round draft pick. Depth Chart.
