Bills Bring Wannstedt To Coaching Staff

Bills Announce Wannstedt Hiring: The Bills announced tonight that they have officially hired Dave Wannstedt. He will coach the inside linebackers and will be the Assistant Head Coach to Chan Gailey. This move may put George Edwards on notice as Wannstedt will have heavy say on the defensive side of the ball as they are coming off a poor season.

Bills Reportedly Add Wannstedt: Fox Sports is reporting that Dave Wannstedt is joining Chan Gailey's staff as the assistant head coach and linebackers coach. He will likely concentrate on the inside linebackers since they got rid of DeMontie Cross who was coaching the position. Wannstedt visited with the team last Thursday and has close ties to Gailey. He resigned as the head coach of the University of Pittburgh. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the deal isn't finalized yet but will get done. The Bills say they have nothing to announce. What do you think of the move? Take our poll on our homepage and let us know!

Free Agency In Flux: With no collective bargaining agreement you can't tell for sure who will be a free agent when a deal is reached. If they go by the normal guidelines the Bills will likely have nine unrestricted free agent. That would be players with four or more years accrued in the league. This list is led by Drayton Florence, Paul Posluszny, and Donte Whitner. The team will likely ahve four restricted free agents. This likely will be players with three years accrued. There should be three exclusive rights free agents, players with two years or less experience. All the players are listed on our newly launched 2011 front office page. We also say what we think the team will do with the impending free agents. It's also the place to keep track of all player and coaching movements as well as contract details all year long! 2011 Front Office Page.

Wannstedt Visits: Former NFL and University of Pittsburgh head coach Dave Wannstedt was at One Bills Drive visiting with the defensive coaching staff. Wannstedt resigned as Pitt coach after this season and has coached the Bears and the Dolphins. He has a history with Chan Gailey who said he knows him well and didn't need to meet with him but wanted the defensive coaches to talk to him. The Bills have an opening on the staff for an inside linebackers coach since DeMontie Cross was let go last week. It is not known was Wannstedt's duties would be if he comes to the Bills but it would likely be bigger than just coaching the inside linebackers. He has also served as a defensive coordinator for the Cowboys and the University of Miami. Do you think the Bills should hire Wannstedt? Take our poll on our homepage and let us know!
