College Prospect Visits In Full Force

Gabbert Visits Today: The Bills have confirmed two more visitors to One Bills Drive today. QB Blaine Gabbert is in town, as expected, along with OLB Brooks Reed. Buddy Nix said on Monday that Gabbert would be in before the end of the week. He is considered the top QB prospect by some experts and he is a popular choice for the Bills at number three on many mock drafts. Reed had a stellar Senior Bowl week but struggled much of the season.

Three More Visits: The Bills welcomed three more top college prospects to the facilities today. Nick Fairley, QB Christian Ponder, and Justin Houston are at One Bills Drive. Fairley is expected to go in the top five and he would be an instant upgrade to the defensive line. The Bills watched him closely at his pro day. Ponder was coached by the Bills staff in the Senior Bowl and Chan Gailey knows him since high school when he was being recruited by Georgia Tech. He ran a traditional pro set offense at Florida State. Houston would play outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense and is considered a solid pass rusher.

Dareus Visits Today: Two more college prospects are roaming the halls at One Bills Drive today. Marcell Dareus is in town, many draftniks feel the Bills may take him at number three since he played as a 3-4 defensive end in Alabama and would fit in with the team in an area of need. Purdue DE Ryan Kerrigan is also visiting today and projects as an outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense.

Newton Finishes Visit: Cam Newton is the biggest name among the college stars visiting Orchard Park but he's not the only one. He's one of about 25 players that are expected to come through One Bills Drive before the April 20th deadline for visits. Teams are allowed to invite up to 30 players. Newton arrived in town Monday night and had dinner with Chan Gailey before meeting with him and his coaching staff yesterday. Gailey came away imnpressed by the man. QB Blaine Gabbert and Christian Ponder are also expected to visit this week along with many players at other positions.

Nix Says Team Needs Tackle: Buddy Nix addressed the fans during yesterday's State of the Bills address. He said the team does need to add an offensive tackle in either the draft or free agency if it takes place. He re-iterated that quarterback isn't a number one need for the team but if they deem a guy to be a franchise player they won't pass him up. He did say the team will build through the draft and will not be a big free agency team. He also admitted that he may not tell the whole truth to the fans as it is not a sin to lie pre draft.

Newton To Visit Tomorrow: Chan Gailey confirmed to the media during the State of the Bills address that Cam Newton will be visiting with the team tomorrow. WKBW-TV reported earlier that his agent confirmed that his client will be in Orchard Park tonight and tomorrow to visit with the Bills. It was reported last week that he would stop in Buffalo as one of approximately seven visits he's suppose to take.

State Of The Bills Address: The Bills are holding a State of the Bills address tonight with CEO Russ Brandon, GM Buddy Nix, and Chan Gailey addressing invited guest and premium season ticket holders. Steve Tasker addressed the crowd first and former players Lou Piccone, Mark Brammer, and Charley Ferguson are among those in attendance.

Bills Extend Payments: The Bills are one of several NFL teams that are changing the payment schedule for season ticket holders because of the lockout. Season ticket holders have had their series of payments extended by one pay period. Payment terms have also been adjusted so that 50 percent of the account balance is not due until the league announces games will be played. Fans then have a two-month period to make the remaining payments. The Giants have gone as far as to tell their season ticket holders they don't have to renew until after the lockout.

Bills Get One Comp Pick: The NFL announced their compensatory picks this afternoon for the upcoming draft. The Bills received one compensatory pick in the 7th round. They will have the 44th pick of that round, 244th overall. 21 compensatory picks were handed out in all as the league uses a formula to figure out net losses in free agency.

Maybin On Notice: As the NFL labor issues go on there was a sliver of news from on the field. Chan Gailey spoke to ESPN's Tim Graham and they spoke at length about Aaron Maybin. Gailey once again put Maybin on notice as he is on thin ice with the team. He said it isn't a lack of trying and re-iterated that when Graham asked if it was a lack of talent. It appears Maybin's chances of being on the roster on opening day, if there is an opening day, are slim to none.
