NEWS ARCHIVES - NOV 11TH - NOV 17TH, 2013 PREVIOUS WEEK

Bills Blow Out Jets

Gameday Grades: The defense gave a dominating effort that would not allow the Jets to climb back into the game. The offense made big plays when they had to and Dan Carpenter hit three field goals in windy conditions. Nice team win that is reflected in the player by player look at the win. Gameday Grades.

Bills Blow Out Jets: The Bills scored 17 points in a 2:50 span late in the first half as they blew out the Jets 37-14 at windy Ralph Wilson Stadium. EJ Manuel was impressive with the deep ball as he went 20 of 28 for 245 yards and two touchdowns. His first score was a 34 yard pass to T.J. Graham which followed the first of three Dan Carpenter field goals from 40+ yards with the swirling winds. After Geno Smith fumbled the ball away at the Jets four, Frank Summers scored his first career touchdown from 3 yards out to help give the Bills a 20-0 halftime lead. They didn't let up in the second half as Manuel hit Marquise Goodwin for a 43 yard touchdown bomb and Da'Norris Searcy returned an interception 32 yards for a score to make it 34-7. Jairus Byrd had two interceptions and a sack while Kyle Williams added two sacks. Smith turned the ball over four times and threw for just 103 yards before being benched. Bills Blitz.

No Big Injuries: The Bills didn't appear to suffer any big injuries in their win over the Jets. Fred Jackson gave everyone a scare when he went down in pain holding his left knee. He would walk off under his own power and then returned. Injury Page.

WRs Lead Inactive List: The Bills have two players inactive with injuries and they are both wide receivers. Robert Woods will miss his second straight game with a high ankle sprain and Stevie Johnson is sitting with a groin injury. The healthy scratches are: Jeff Tuel, Justin Rogers, Antoine McClain, Ronnie Wingo, and Brandon Smith.

Wind And Rain To Be A Factor: Morning rain and thunderstorms will give way to lighter rain but wind will be a factor for today's game. By the time they kickoff the rain will give way to a few showers with temperatures unseasonably warm in the upper 50s and approaching 60°. The wind will be a factor as it will be out of the south with sustained wind at 22mph and gusts a lot higher.

Johnson Ruled Out: Doug Marrone has ruled out Stevie Johnson for Sunday's game after he failed to practice again today with his groin injury. This was expected and he joins fellow starting wide receiver Robert Woods on the sidelines. All of the other players are good to go for the game with the Jets. Injury Page.

Bills Likely Going With 4 WRs: With Robert Woods sidelined and Stevie Johnson also likely out this week, Doug Marrone said on WGR today the team will be going with just four wide receivers on Sunday. They don't plan on elevating anyone from the practice squad. That means T.J. Graham, Marquise Goodwin, Chris Hogan, and Marcus Easley will see plenty of playing time. The coach feels they will be helped by an increased role of TE Chris Gragg who is a pass catcher that got an increased role last week. They also can use C.J. Spiller more as a receiver out of the backfield but they will not line him up at wide receiver. Recently signed HB Evan Rodriguez can see some game action this week as well.

Blackout Lifted: The Bills avoided a television blackout thanks to Ralph Wilson guaranteeing a sellout. Fans were able to get tickets at select NOCO stores for $25 for two tickets with all the proceeds going to the Wounded Warriors Project. Those tickets are now soldout. This is the second time this year that the Bills owner bought out the remaining tickets to avoid the blackout. He did the same for the Cincinnati game. There has yet to be a blackout in the league this season.

Johnson Not Likely To Play: Stevie Johnson sat out practice once again today and Doug Marrone said he doeesn't feel too good about his availability for Sunday's game against the Jets. He won't rule him out yet however. As expected Robert Woods sat again as he has already been ruled out. Da'Norris Searcy and Kyle Williams returned to practice which was also expected. Searcy is battling a hamstring injury suffered against Pittsburgh and Williams came back after getting his usual Wednesday off to rest his Achilles. Injury Page.

Jets Preview: The Bills face their first rematch of the season with the Jets land in Orchard Park for Sunday's divisional matchup witht he surprising Jets. New York is coming off the bye and well rested while the Bills look to get back on track after their worst performance of the season. Game Preview.

Woods Out For Sunday: Doug Marrone confirmed today that Robert Woods will not play on Sunday. He had said on Monday he was leaning that way but he will now definitely hold him out before the bye with a high ankle sprain. He is still unsure if Stevie Johnson will go after he did not practice today. Injury Page.

Bills Practice Outdoors: The Bills are practicing outdoors today in 34° and windy weather. Not on the field are Robert Woods and Da'Norris Searcy and Stevie Johnson is just watching practice along with Kyle Williams who is getting his usual Wednesday off.

Bills Swap Practice Squad Players: The Bills made a practice squad move on Tuesday releasing DL Adewale Ojomo and signing DE Ikponmwosa Igbinosun. He was an undrafted free agent signed by the Steelers in 2012. He was released before the season started last year and spent time on the Cowboys practice squad as well. He was released by them before this season. Front Office Page.

Playoff Drought To Continue: In this week's article Tony Bogyo talks about how we can finally end the charade of thinking the Bills have a chance of ending their playoff drought this year. Some fans will always be optimistic but the time has come to look back at Jim Mora's famous Playoffs!! rant and realize it is a 14th straight year of not making the playoffs for our beloved Bills. Complete Story.

Monday November 11, 2013

Fiery Marrone Press Conference: Doug Marrone held a fiery press conference today beginning it by thanking the reporters from covering a 3-7 team. He said he doesn't feel like he has time he need to turn things around now. He did not ask for patience because they need to start winning immediately. The coach said that the reason CJ Spiller did not see more playing time was a product of the gameplan not his ankle injury. He said his reps could increase or decrease in coming weeks. The coach said he didn't like how runs were bounced outside against Pittsburgh so Spiller may have fallen out of favor a bit. Marrone thinks Stevie Johnson may practice on a limited basis on Wednesday but his status for Sunday is up in the air. He is leaning towards holding Robert Woods out one more week with the bye looming. His ankle is still swollen from his high ankle sprain. Injury Page.

Johnson Unsure: Stevie Johnson sounded unsure that he will be available for the Jets game on Sunday. He said he will be getting extra treatment all week trying to get ready. This injury is in the other leg than the groin injury he suffered earlier this year. It may be wise to keep him sidelined with the bye week ahead after the Jets game. Chris Hogan will be available Sunday. He left the Steelers game with concussion like symptoms but he passed all pertinent tests and said he will be ready for the game this Sunday. Injury Page.
