Bills Win In Carolina To Even Preseason Record

Bills Practice Today: The Bills were back on the practice field this afternoon for their second practice in two days after the Panthers preseason game on Friday night. Fred Jackson said there were a lot of cranky people on the field and the practice was relatively chippy according to most accounts. Brandon Spikes and Eric Wood got into it a bit. Chris Williams was sidelined again with a back injury he suffered on Friday night but Coach Marrone said after practice he isn't worried it will be a longterm thing. Leodis McKelvin and Tony Moeaki remain sidelined but were doing work on the side. McKelvin is struggling after offseason hip surgery and Moeaki is still bothered by his hamstring injury although he did see some action against the Panthers. Also sitting out today's session were Ron Brooks, Jonathan Meeks, Ty Powell, and Marquise Goodwin. Aaron Williams was with the 2nd team for a second straight day but Marrone said don't read anything into that as they are looking at different combos. Sammy Watkins made another magnificent one handed grab and Mike Williams was sharp as well.

Glenn Activated: The Bills were back on the field less than 24 hours after their win over the Panthers. The team has activated Cordy Glenn from the PUP non football injury list. He was cleared to begin practicing tonight and did take part in limited drills. Doug Marrone said he would not take part in team drills for a while and that is by design as they ease him back into action and are taking it very slowly according to the head coach. Chris Williams was sidelined tonight with a back injury suffered in the win over the Panthers on Friday night. The non participants were Derek Brim, Ron Brooks, Marquise Goodwin, Kenny Ladler, Ty Powell, Jonathan Meeks, and Tony Moeaki.

Who Helped Themselves: EJ Manuel had a nice bounce back game with a solid completion percentage as he played a quarter and a half. The downfall was the failure in the red zone as they only scored a field goal while he was in the game. Anthony Dixon ran hard but Doug Marrone would not call it a competition for goal line carries with Fred Jackson. The coach called Bryce Brown a very talented running back with potential to start in the NFL so it was no surprise he looked good against weaker competition in the 2nd half. He led the way with 64 yards on 11 carries. C.J. Spiller looked real good with 22 yards on just three carries. It was another nice day for Robert Woods who had four catches but was targeted eight times. Jairus Wynn had a strip sack while Jonathan Meeks had a game clinching interception to wrap up the game.

Who Hurt Themselves: There were still struggles on the offensive line as Kraig Urbik played deep into the game and couldn't get any push on a 4th and goal run. Cyrus Kouandjio struggled again. Fred Jackson struggled with just 7 yards on six touches but that wasn't a concern to Doug Marrone after the game.

Bills Beat Panthers: The Bills got their first win of the preseason as they defeated the Carolina Panthers 20-18 tonight in Charlotte. The Panthers missed a pair of two point conversions in the fourth quarter which turned out to be the difference in the game. Anthony Dixon had a one yard touchdown run while Jeff Tuel hit Chris Summers with a shoestring 1 yard touchdown pass to lead the Bills to the win. Dan Carpenter hit two of three field goals in the win. EJ Manuel was much improved from his play last week in the Hall of Fame game and from his play in practice. He went 9 of 13 for 96 yards as he played until they were midway through the 2nd period.

Bills Inactives: Inactive for the Panthers preseason game for the Bills were: Leodis McKelvin, Kenny Ladler, Derek Brim, and Edawn Coughman were inactive for the game against Carolina. Coughman hurt his oblique muscle in practice this week. McKelvin is battling back from offseason hip surgery while Brim and Ladler have nagging injuries. Seantrel Henderson was looked at by the trainers in the 2nd quarter. Da'Norris Searcy did play after missing a practice and a half while dealing with a family matter. He had an interception in the game. Injury Page.

Kelly, Gundlach Hook Up: Tim Graham of the Buffalo News continues his streak of breaking scoops on the Bills ownership situation. Today's nugget is he has confirmed that Jim Kelly has hooked up with East Amherst bond investor Jeffrey Gundlach and the two were given a presentation by the trust yesterday. The two do not have enough money reportedly to buy the team on their own and they are looking to hook up with a big money guy who would be the majority owner.

Bills to Battle Panthers: The Bills are in Charlotte for tonight's 2nd preseason game against the Carolina Panthers. No word on how much playing time the starters will get but they likely will be without Leodis McKelvin, Marcell Dareus, Edawn Coughman, Doug Legursky, and Jonathan Meeks. They are each battling injuries while Da'Norris Searcy may or may not make the game as he is dealing with a family matter. Injury Page.

Golisano In; Bon Jovi Out? The ownership situation continues to get wilder and wilder. John Kryk of the Toronto Sun reports that the Bon Jovi group still has not advanced to the final phase of the sale as the trust is looking for even more clarification on statements they made regarding relocation. They have submitted a new initial bid after their first bid was considered too low. Tim Graham of the Buffalo News reports that as many as eight suitors for the Bills are scheduled for in person presentations. Donald Trump reportedly went first on Wednesday and Jim Kelly reportedly received a presentation on Thursday. It is not known which group he is involved with but it could be East Amherst bond investor Jeffrey Gundlach. Graham and the AP also report that Tom Golisano has finally submitted a bid.

Eight Suitors To Reportedly Present: Tim Graham of the Buffalo News reports that as many as eight suitors for the Bills are scheduled for in person presentations. Donald Trump reportedly went first yesterday in the Detroit area. Graham reported this morning that a group that Jim Kelly is involved with is getting a presentation from the trust today in Detroit. The Pegulas and the Bon Jovi group will reportedly meet with the trust in New York City next week. Other names that have been bountied about as being interested in the team includes Tom Golisano, East Amherst bond investor Jeffrey Gundlach, and Dean Metropoulos. Graham noted that Russ Brandon has not been a fixture at training camp as he is involved in the presentation process.

Dareus, Meeks Leave With Injuries: Marcell Dareus and Jonathan Meeks left practice early with injuries yesterday putting their status for tomorrow's preseason game in jeopardy. Dareus left with a hamstring injury and Meeks suffered a neck injury. Leodis McKelvin is almost certainly not going to play as he remains sidelined after offseason hip surgery. Edawn Coughman and Doug Legursky are also sidelined by injuries at this point and Da'Norris Searcy hopes to be back for the game as he is out for a family matter at this point. Injury Page.

McKelvin Still Out: The Bills were back on the practice field this afternoon and one player missing again was Leodis McKelvin. He has been slow recovering from offseason hip surgery. He did not take team drills last week and has not practiced at all this week as he seems to have regressed. Doug Legursky sat out again today with a back problem. Edawn Coughman sat out with an oblique muscle injury suffered yesterday in practice. Derek Brim returned after sitting out a day with a hip problem. Da'Norris Searcy missed practice for personal reasons after leaving in a hurry yesterday. Injury Page.

Bills Get Three Back: The Bills hit the practice field last night at St. John Fisher College and got three injured players back as Scott Chandler, Tony Moeaki, and Marquise Goodwin returned from injuries. Moeaki did limited work while Chandler seemed full go and said he will be ready for Friday night's preseason game against Carolina. Goodwin was coming back from a hamstring tweak last week. The only players not practicing were Doug Legursky who has a back issue and Derek Brim who has a hip injury. Leodis McKelvin really didn't do anything last night either as he is very slow returning from offseason hip surgery. Edawn Coughman left practice early with a strained oblique muscle. The offense struggled once again in practice especially in the red zone. They are back on the field this afternoon for 2pm practice. Injury Page.

Bon Jovi To Submit New Bid: The Buffalo News now reports that the Bon Jovi group will indeed submit a new initial bid. The News also confirmed the Toronto Sun report that the initial bid by the group was rejected. The Buffalo News reported earlier that friends of the rock star in the league said he should back out to save his reputation but he likely feels he needs to see it through.

Bon Jovi Asked To Re-Submit Bid: John Kryk of the Toronto Sun reports that the Bon Jovi group has been asked to re-submit their initial bid and give more assurances that they are not looking to relocate the team in the long term. The report also says their initial bid was too low and rejected and if they don't re-submit by the end of today they will be out of the running for the team. Tim Graham of the Buffalo News reports that Jon Bon Jovi's NFL friends are telling him to get out and save face. This could clear the way for Terry Pegula to be the next owner of the Bills. The Buffalo News report also says that the league feels Pegula has done everything right in this process and is a shoe-in to be approved by league ownership. He is also willing to pay more than the team is likely worth in Western New York. There is always a chance another late comer could enter the fray and Donald Trump is still in it. If Bon Jovi backs out that could clear the way for Rogers and Tannenbaum to get back in it without the restraints of Bon Jovi's limited wealth but the news reports they likely won't want to pay that much to keep the team in Buffalo. The Toronto Sun report is the clearest indication that the trust is giving high priority to groups that are committed to Buffalo.

Back To Practice: The Bills are back on the field at St. John Fisher College for a practice tonight and another one on Wednesday afternoon before heading to Carolina to play the Panthers on Friday night. The Hall of Fame game 17-13 loss to the Giants brought up some interesting changes to our depth chart after seeing Robert Woods playing with the 2nd team and Jeff Tuel getting 2nd team reps over Thad Lewis at quarterback. Depth Chart.

An Open Letter To Bon Jovi: Jon Bon Jovi took the time to write an open letter to Bills fans that appeared in yesterday's Buffalo News. People that believe he will keep the team in Buffalo after that letter didn't even make a blimp on the radar. Nobody believed him and Tony Bogyo penned his own letter to Jon Bon Jovi telling him why Bills Nation does not believe his intentions are to keep the team in Western New York despite what he wrote. Complete Story.

No New Injuries: The good news coming out of the loss to the Giants were that they got out of the game pretty much injury free. Kevin Elliott suffered some cramps and Seantrell Henderson seemed overheated according to Doug Marrone but they came out ok. Five players were inactive for the Bills as Scott Chandler, Tony Moeaki, Leodis McKelvin, Stephon Gilmore, and Marquise Goodwin sat out for the Bills. Chandler is battling a groin injury while Moeaki continues to be sidelined with a hamstring injury. McKelvin hasn't taken part in team drills all week as he is struggling in his return from offseason hip surgery. Gilmore has been rested at times in camp after his own offseason hip surgery. Goodwin injured his hamstring late in the week in practice. Injury Page.

Who Helped Themselves: Several players helped themselves with their performance in the 17-13 loss to the Giants yesterday. Marcus Easley helped his chances of making the team as a special teams ace with a blocked punt. Robert Woods surprisingly was with the second unit but made his case to get back with the ones as he led the team with 49 yards receiving on four catches including the team's only touchdown. Jeff Tuel got the first shot at the backup quarterback spot and looked good on his 80 yard scoring drive. He finished 12 of 17 for 74 yards but did throw a pick. Bryce Brown was the fourth running back off the bench but had the best stats gaining 40 yards on just 7 carries.Seantrel Henderson didn't look out of place at left tackle holding his own fairly well. Kyle Williams looked in midseason form by forcing a turnover and Duke Williams made his presence known with a few good plays and one vicious hit.

Who Hurt Themselves: EJ Manuel didn't calm everyone's worries about his play in camp as he went just 2 of 7 for 19 yards in two series of play in the 17-13 loss to the Giants. Cyrus Kouandjio struggled mightily at right tackle. T.J. Graham continued his recent string of drops in this game with a couple of passes going off of hands. Michael Carter has struggled in training camp and didn't do himself any favors when he was beaten for a 73 yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter by rookie Corey Washington.
