Pegulas Take Over As Owners; Bills Lose To Pats Again

Gameday Grades: The defense just collapsed in the second half as Tom Brady once again was terrifice against the Bills and made the defense look like one of the worst in the league in the 2nd half instead of one of the best. Gameday Grades.

Bills Blitz: The Patriots showed again that the reports of their demise have been greatly exaggerated. Tom Brady threw for 361 yards and four touchdowns to prove they are still the team to beat in the division with a 37-22 impressive win over the Bills and ruining the Pegula Day celebration at Ralph Wilson Stadium. The vaunted Buffalo defense collapsed in the second half allowing scoring drives on every New England possession after halftime. The Patriots ran up 396 yards in total offense. They took a 13-7 lead into the locker room at the intermission as they turned three Buffalo turnovers into points in the first half before the offense really clicked into high gear in the second half. Brady hit Brian Tymes from 43 yards out and Brandon LaFell caught scoring passes of 56 and 18 yards. Kyle Orton threw touchdown passes to Robert Woods and Chris Hogan as he went 24 of 38 for 299 yards including a fumble and an interception. Fred Jackson also had a touchdown run in the loss. Bills Blitz.

Injury Update: The Bills lost Ty Powell to an apparent leg injury in the second half. He went to the locker room with trainers and was quickly ruled out. Marcell Dareus came off the field a couple of times with an arm injury and had it taped up. C.J. Spiller seemed to hurt his right elbow and missed a few plays before returning to the game with a large pad over elbow. Injury Page.

Gameday Inactives: Kyle Williams and Nigel Bradham are active and will be play after missing last week's game against Detroit. All the questionable players will go except Aaron Williams who is inactive with his wrist injury. His absence is a huge blow against the Patriots two TE set. Marcus Easley is inactive after being ruled out on Friday. The healthy inactives are surprisingly led by Mike Williams who tweeted he wasn't playing before the game and was not on the injury report. Cyrus Kouandjio, Bryce Brown, Randell Johnson, and Ross Cockrell are also inactive. Tom Brady is active for the Patriots after rolling an ankle in practice on Friday. He was added to the injury report as questionable.

Report Says Outside Football Guy To Be Hired: Jason LaConfora of CBS Sports reports that the Bills will look to bring in a football consultant by early in the offseason. The report says that Ernie Acorsi, Mike Holmgren, or Ron Wolf would be possibilities and it could happen earlier if the Bills falter on the field. Russ Brandon is expected to stay as the team president but there will be a more distinct line between the business side and the football side. The report goes on to say that Doug Whaley will now report directly to the Pegulas and that Kim Pegula will be the CEO. If the team decides to make a change at head coach in the offseason the report says Frank Reich would be a leading candidate to take over.

Beautiful Weather: The weather will be beautiful for one of the most anticipated home games in recent memory as the Bills will introduce the Pegulas as the new owners of the team before today's soldout battle for first place in the AFC East. The game will be played under sunny skies with a high temperature of 62° with light winds. The Patriots will be without CB Brandon Browner, DL Dominique Easley and C Bryan Stork who were downgraded to out when they did not make the flight to Buffalo. Tom Brady was on the flight and without a walking boot on the ankle he reportedly injured in practice on Friday. He is offically listed as questionable but it would be a shock if he did not play.

Williams On Reserved/Injured List: The Bills have placed guard Chris Williams on injured reserve ending his season with his back injury. They used his roster spot by promoting safety Kenny Ladler to the active roster from the practice squad. He could be needed with Aaron Williams and Da'Norris Searcy banged up. Front Office Page.

Pegula Presser: The Bills officially introduced Terry and Kim Pegula as the new owners of the team at a press conference late this afternoon from the fieldhouse. People in attendance including Sabres GM Tim Murray, Thurman Thomas, Rueben Brown, Mark Kelso, Mario Williams, Kyle Williams, Eric Wood, and Corey Graham. Doug Marrone was there but didn't have a seat with a place card so he sat with the media. Jim Kelly sent along his congratulations but was on vacation and couldn't be there. Just before the press conference the Pegulas released a letter that said in bold The Bills are here to stay. Russ Brandon is no longer CEO but he is still the team president. Terry Pegula is the owner and CEO as introduced by John Murphy as the beginning of the press conference. He was on the stage while Kim Pegula was in the front row. Russ Brandon said he was humbled, honored, and privileged to introduce Terry Pegula and called it a new era while praising Ralph Wilson. He got emotional and started crying saying we all just bought a team. He was humbled by all the fans and outpouring of emotions that he saw when his name was announced as the winner of the bid. He could not believe the penned up fear of losing the team being released by the fans as he listened to WGR after winning the bid. He feels humbled to follow Ralph Wilson, he said even though he never met Ralph they are connected through the city of Detroit as he started crying again. Talked about being a Detroit Lions fan as an 8 year old that Ralph owned a part of at the time. He started watching Bills games in the early 60s. He talked about that you can buy anything you want but there is only one Buffalo Bills. He wants the team and staff to know that they care about everyone in the organization and they have showed that with the Sabres. They care about everyone who ever played for the organization and specifically mentioned Jim Kelly and is battles. Andre Reed and his "quiet" support of the team, Thurman Thomas a big Sabres fan, and Mario Williams who isn't a bigger car guy than Pegula. The primary goal of the ownership is to win Super Bowls and himself and his family will dedicate themselves to that goal courtesy of your, our, Buffalo Bills. He thanked Senator Chuck Schumer, Mario Cuomo, and the Jacobs family for their support. He said he always has been a football game but the hockey team came up for sale first. He said Kim and him are both owners but he will keep the division private and she will put her touch on the organization and will be involved but they haven't decided on a specific role at this time. He talked about buying the team privately for years and was worried about the future of the team. He didn't want to tip his hand but admitting he wanted the team when asked about it in the past. He said they will gradually proceed to plan and design a new stadium for the Buffalo Bills but it will take time. He realizes it is a significant issue but getting the team first is what mattered and he hopes he doesn't have to spend the next eight years answering questions on it. He has not given any thought to changes in the football operation calling it a happy day. He wouldn't assume there would be any changes and they are pleased with the work Russ Brandon has done with the organization. He will be on the field before the game and it appears that he will address the crowd.

Seven Questionable: The Bills hit the practice field for the last time before the Patriots game and did so without Chris Williams and Fred Jackson who sat out. Jackson was sent home with an illness and Williams has been ruled out for Sunday's game. Marcus Easley has been ruled out again as well. The rest of the players that have been limited all week are listed as questionable. That list includes Jackson, Ron Brooks, Kyle Williams, Nigel Bradham, Aaron Williams, Da'Norris Searcy, and Brandon Spikes. For the Patriots Tom Brady is listed as questionable with a previously unknown ankle injury. Injury Page.

No Changes To Injury Report: The Bills had no changes to the injury report on Thursday with the same eight players who were limited on Wednesday were limited on Thursday. Press Conference Tomorrow: The Bills have announced that they will hold a press conference tomorrow at 4pm to officially announce Terry and Kim Pegula as the new owners of the team. The press conference will be streamed live on the team's official website. The announcement means that the sale has closed and the money has changed hands. Part of the sale closing was a goodbye letter from Mary Wilson to the Bills fans where she talked about the special bond between the fans, the city of Buffalo, and Ralph Wilson.

Pats Preview: The most anticipated game in years is this Sunday at Ralph Wilson Stadium as the Bills and their arch nemesis Patriots battle for first place in the AFC East in the first game of the Pegula regime. Game Preview.

Easley Only Player Sitting Out: The Bills got some good news on the field today as they begin practicing for Sunday's huge matchup with the Patriots. Every injured player except Marcus Easley was back on the field on a limited basis. Ron Brooks took the field after suffering a scary neck injury on Sunday. Kyle Williams, Nigel Bradham, Fred Jackson, Aaron Williams, Da'Norris Searcy, Brandon Spikes, and Chris Williams also were limited but on the field which is a good sign. Injury Page.

Pegula Statement: Terry Pegula addressed the media briefly this morning and said, "Kim and I are honored that the NFL owners have approved us as the new owners of the Buffalo Bills and we would like to thank the owners for their support. This is a significant step in us owning the team. They still have to pay the money, wire transfers to be made, papers to sign, but will get that done. They are heading back to Buffalo tonight or tomorrow morning and will be at the Sabres home opener tomorrow evening. They will speak to everyone on Friday. He did answer one question saying he got a hell of a deal because he owns the team and that his interest in owning them goes back longer than you could imagine.

Dareus Honored: Marcell Dareus has been named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his three sack and five tackle performance in the win over Detroit on Sunday. The last Bill to win this award was Mario Williams week 7 of last year.

Pegula's Unaminously Approved! The league owners have unaminously approved Terry and Kim Pegula as the new owners of the Buffalo Bills. NFL spokesperson Greg Aiello announced it via twitter as the Pegula's came in to a big round of applause after the vote which happened very quickly after the doors closed to start the meeting as the owners didn't even feel the need to question the Pegulas. They immediately joined the rest of the meeting as owners of the team as Jeff Littman and Mary Owen gave their seats to them and left the meeting. Littman made a rare statment to reporters saying in part that "Ralph Wilson's committment to Buffalo and Western New York will indeed continue through his foundation." The deal has not officially closed yet as the money still needs to be transferred to the Wilson estate but that is expected to happen swiftly.

Pegula Day: Today is the day the Pegulas will officially become the owners of the Buffalo Bills. The sale of the Bills are expected to be first on the agenda at the owners meeting today. The Toronto Sun reports that Terry and Kim Pegula will each own a 50% stake in the team but Terry will be the principle owner with the voting power. The owners will be presented with the financial information and other details of the sale than the Pegulas will leave the room for the vote. They are expected to get unanimous approval and then join the rest of the meeting as owners of the team. Jeff Littman and Mary Owen are representing the Wilson family and Russ Brandon is there as well. It will be a historic day for the team we should hear from the Pegulas briefly today with a press conference in Buffalo likely on Friday.

Practice Squad Moves: Tuesday always seems to be a day for practice squad moves and today the team added two players at positions of need because of injuries. They added G William Campbell and DT Jeremy Towns. To make room they released TE Jamie Childers and FB Lonnie Pryor. Campbell was a sixth round pick of the Jets last season but did not see any action. He was released before the start of this season. Towns was an undrafted free agent this year who spent some time with Washington. Front Office Page.

Brooks Back Home: Ron Brooks was released from a Detroit hospital today and headed back to Buffalo. He tweeted this morning that he is thankful and got lucky because the injury could have been a lot worse. He is walking under his own power and all signs seem to point to the fact that he will be ok.
