He went on to praise Greg Roman, Rex Ryan, and new Jets offensive coordinator Chan Gailey. Hughes Talks Continue: Doug Whaley made the rounds at the combine today first talking on WGR than meeting with the Buffalo area media. Whaley said they they have exchanged contract proposals with the agent for Jerry Hughes and the two sides talked last night. It sounds like talks are progressing. Whaley said they want a longterm deal with Hughes so they don't want to use the franchise tag. Whaley also said they also exchanged proposals with C.J. Spiller's agent but the two sides are not close hinting he will likely hit the market. Whaley also feels it won't be easy to keep Da'Norris Searcy since they have a lot of money wrapped up in Aaron Williams at the safety position. If they can't keep him Duke Williams, Jonathan Meeks, and Baccari Rambo would fight for the starting job. The team also would have a different plan for Brandon Spikes than he has for himself so he will likely leave. They do want to re-sign Marcus Easley because he is a special teams ace. They have not approached Mario Williams about restructuring his contract yet but do have it in their back pocket if they need him too. They also will make a new deal for Marcell Dareus a priority after they deal with their free agents.

He signed a two year deal before last season but was quickly relegated to the bench because of the emergence of Preston Brown at linebacker. He also doesn't likely fit the scheme being introduced by Rex Ryan. The release of Rivers saves the Bills $1.7 Million in cap space while leaving the Bills with $500,000 in dead money on their books.
