Training Camp Underway
Day 3 Camp Notes: Sunday's practice was the first one in pads so the physical nature of the camp was dialed up and the defense brought it with various combination of schemes. John Connor left this morning's workout early after suffering a hamstring injury. Rex Ryan said he will miss about a week. Marcus Thigpen came off early with tightness in his hamstring but he's expected to be fine. Leodis McKelvin was riding a golf cart again today while BJ Larsen and Clay Burton remain sidelined but on the active camp roster. None of the QBs were particularly impressive with EJ Manuel probably having the worst day of the four quarterbacks as he was struggling with ball handling and accuracy. Eric Wood really struggled in one on one drills. The team is back on the field tomorrow for their first night practice of camp.
Incognito Named Starter: John Miller was back on the field after leaving practice on Saturday with a bone bruise on his ankle. He did very well in one on one drills holding his own against Kyle Williams and Marcel Dareus. Rex Ryan continues to be impressed with the play and conditioning of Richie Incognito announcing today that he is indeed the starter at left guard. The only two open spots on the line are on the right side where Cyrus Koundajio continues to lead a rejuvenated Seantrel Henderson at right tackle while Milller leads Cyril Richardson at left guard, although Richardson has shown flashes so far in camp.
Cassel Leading QB Battle? The QB battle continues to limp along with Matt Cassel seemingly in the lead just by the fact that he has received first team reps three straight days while EJ Manuel and Tyrod Taylor have alternated with Cassel and the first team. Rex Ryan said that is by design since Casselis the veteran and he feels the two younger players can benefit by being with younger players on the first two units. Reading between the lines I think you have to give Cassel the slight edge at this point.
Day 2 Camp Notes: It was another less than stellar day for the quarterbacks during day two of training camp on Saturday. EJ Manuel got his chance at first team reps and struggled with his accuracy once again. Leodis McKelvin remains sidelined and Rex Ryan confirmed he has had complications from the ankle surgery he had in the offseason. He was seen driving a cart with a scooter in the back. Rookie Ronald Darby continues to impress and has a chance to be a starter earlier than expected if McKelvin is out for an extended period. Ryan also praised Mario Butler who he says just always makes play. John Miller missed some time yesterday after suffering a bruise to his ankle but he's expected to be fine. Seantrel Hendrson took some first team reps at right tackle as that starting battle seems like it's going to be a good one. DL BJ Larsen and TE Clay Burton remain sidelined. Barton has an ankle injury and was seen on crutches.

Bills Claim OT: The Bills claimed offensive tackle Terren Jones off of waivers from Tennessee. He appeared in one game last year for the Titans. He was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Falcons in 2013. The team needed another tackle for training camp giving them five now on the roster. There is still one open spot on the 90 man training camp roster. Depth Chart.

Kromer Charges Dropped: In a surprise move the charges against OL Coach Aaron Kromer and his son were dropped today in Florida. The victims' families requested that the charges be dropped after a settlement was reached between the parties. The decision may save Kromer's job with the Bills. Tim Graham of the Buffalo News reports that the Bills are happy with the outcome of the case but they are expected to suspened Kromer for the start of the regular season. In that case he would be available to coach the line during training camp.
QBs Struggle: The general consensus from the first day of training camp was that all four quarterbacks struggled. EJ Manuel struggled with his accuracy while Tyrod Taylor took off to run too often and Matt Cassel threw an interception. Percy Harvin saw a few reps at cornerback after he asked Rex Ryan if he can play the position. Ryan agreed saying they won't do too much with him there. Harvin said defense is his first love. Corey Graham got the first team reps at safety next to Aaron Williams.
Super Mario Activated: When the Bills hit the field for their first training camp practice this morning they had Mario Williams on the field. Yesterday he was put on the Active/Non-Football injury list but was activated in time for today's practice and took part in the opening workout. Matt Cassel got the first reps with the first team at quarterback in practice today. Tyrod Taylor also got first team reps during 11 on 11 drills. Ronald Darby took Leodis McKelvin's first team reps at corner and picked off Cassel on a bomb. Corey Graham got top reps over Duke Williams. Cyrus Kouandjio took the first team reps at right tackle. Asst OL coach Kurt Anderson is leading the offensive line drills. DE BJ Larsen was the lone active player not participating in the workout. McKelvin, Dan Carpenter, Cam Thomas, and Chris Manhertz are out on injury lists.
Bills Hire Consultant: With OL coach Aaron Kromer on paid administrative leave dealing with his legal struggles, the Bills have hired someone he knows well. Pat Meyer has been hired a football operations consultant. He has an offensive line coaching background serving as the OL coach under Kromer the past two years in Chicago. He was the offensive coordinator for the CFL's Montreal Alouettes in 2012. He was taking in the first practice of camp on the sidelines.
Camp Gets Started! It's finally here! The Bills hit the practice fields at St. Johns Fisher College for the first time this training camp on Friday morning from 10am - 12pm. Kromer Decision Expected Soon: A decision on the future of OL coach Aaron Kromer is expected at anytime with the likelihood he will be fired and Vic Carucci of the Buffalo news reports that assistant OL coach Kurt Anderson will be promoted according to what an NFL source told him. Kromer is due back in court on his battery charge on August 12th but the team is not obligated to wait for the legal process to carry out. The disciplinary action rests with the team and not the Bills. Carucci speculates they will fire him with cause and not pay him his salary. He is currently on paid administrative leave.
Bills Release OT Hunter: Just three weeks after being signed, the Bills have released OT Wayne Hunter.
