Bills Finish Offseason Workouts With Mandatory Minicamp

Organization Changes: The Bills announced changes to the player personnel department on Friday. Rob Hanrahan has been promoted to Director of Pro Personnel. He has been with the team for 15 years and was the team’s assistant director of pro personnel last year. Kevin Meganck is the new Director of Football Operations. Kevin Murphy is a new pro scout while Marcus Cooper has been promoted to a college area scout. Casey Weidl has been named Manager of Football Operations.

Day 3 Minicamp Notes: The Bills wrapped up their offseason program with the final day of the three day mandatory minicamp at One Bills Drive yesterday. Rex Ryan took out the starting defensive line after they dominated practice on Wednesday. This allowed the offense some room to have success heading into the six week break before training camp. EJ Manuel took advantage of going against the 2nd team D-line and had a very good day while his fellow quarterbacks struggled still. Rex Ryan said there is a 99.9% chance the opening day starting quarterback is on the roster right now. Cyrus Kouandjio still leads the battle for the starting right tackle spot heading into camp. Rex Ryan told the players to get away from the game while staying in condition before ramping things back up before reporting to St. Johns Fisher College on July 30th for the first practice on the 31st.

Bills Add TE: The Bills made a roster move at the conclusion of minicamp by signing TE Matthew Mulligan and released CB Merril Nole. Mulligan is another ex-Jet who started his career with Rex Ryan in 2009. He is a seven year vet known as a blocking tight end who has been with 9 NFL teams. Depth Chart.

Bills Expected To Sign Hunter: Former Jets tackle Wayne Hunter has been at minicamp on a tryout basis the past two days and Rex Ryan said at the conclusion of the minicamp that he expects to sign him before training camp begins. Hunter is a journeyman tackle who has had limited success in his career. He has nine years experience in the league and has not played since 2012 with St. Louis. He was with the Jets from 2008-2011. He started his career in Seattle for three years and spent a year in Jacksonville. He has 25 career starts in 77 games.

Day 2 Minicamp Notes: Seantrel Henderson was back on the field during the 2nd day of the mandatory minicamp. He is definitely in the doghouse however as he took mostly third team reps with the team at right tackle on a day that was awful for the offense. The quarterbacks only completed four passes on 22 drop backs during 11 on 11 drills according to the media reports from the workout. Sammy Watkins continues to get worked in a bit more as he had a few more team reps on Wednesday. The team wraps up the offseason workouts with a final day of mandatory minicamp today. They will then have six weeks off before reporting to St. Johns Fisher on July 30th.

Day 1 Minicamp Notes: The Bills hit the field for their first day of the three day minicamp on Tuesday. Attendance was mandatory but one player was missing. Seantrel Henderson was not in attendance because of travel problems and is subject to a fine. Rex Ryan said he will speak to him about allowing extra time for potential travel issues when travelling north. Henderson is expected to be on the field today. The quarterbacks seemed to have a decent day by most media accounts as Tyrod Taylor really looked sharp. Ryan feels that even though they don't have a top notch signal caller he feels the competition will allow them all to play at a higher level. He said there will be no separation in the battle until the pads come on in training camp. Andre Reed spent extra time on the field working with the receivers as he was one of several camp coaches that started work yesterday as part of the minority fellowship program. He was gushing about the upside of Sammy Watkins who took his first rep of the offseason yesterday and caught a pass in his only team drill as he continues to recover from offseason hip surgery. Chris Williams was in town for the first time all offseason but did not participate because of his back issues.

Roster Move: The Bills made a roster move today by designating S Deon Broomfield as waived/injured and they have filled his roster spot by signing DT Andre Fluellen. He has been in the NFL for seven years and has 65 tackles and 4½ sacks in 77 games mostly with the Detroit Lions. Depth Chart.

Minicamp Begins Today: The team begins their three day mandatory minicamp today and it runs through Thursday. Everyone is required to attend the workouts for the first time this offseason. That means we should see Chris Williams for the first time this year even if he can't participate because of his ongoing back issues. The team wrapped up OTAs last week with three practices and a fun day instead of a practice on the final day of OTAs on Thursday. The players can do everything they were able to do doing the OTAs so there are no one on one drills or pads.

Bills Break Season Ticket Record: Team president Russ Brandon announced today the team broke their 23 year old season ticket sales record. They now have 57,500 season tickets for the coming season, in 1992 they sold 57,132. The team said the entire season is nearly sold out since season ticket holders are gobbling up a lot of the remainding individual game tickets. Only the Jets game on January 3rd has tickets left and almost all suite seats and club tickets are gone as well. Brandon said they will cap season ticket sales at 60,000. If they get there a waiting list will be instituted. It had already been announced that the first three games will not have individual ticket sales and the games against Cincinnati and Dallas already have limited tickets available. Brandon said, "the foundation of where we are today on tickets is because of the Pegulas. It stops and starts with them." Terry Pegula said, "since we agreed to purchase the Buffalo Bills in September 2014, we have been humbled by the fans and their outpouring of emotion when they learned this team would remain in Buffalo. Bills Season Ticket Members passionately support this team year after year and are the most loyal fans in the National Football League. We truly thank them for their commitment to this franchise. Like our fans, we are looking forward to a great 2015 season with our Head Coach Rex Ryan, the coaching staff, the players and the entire organization.”
