Bills Get Steamrolled In Oakland
Sunday December 4, 2016
Gameday Grades: These grades would have been great for the first 35 minutes but unfortunately the NFL is a 60 minute game. Gameday Grades.
Bills Blitz: The Raiders woke up just in time to blow past the Bills so fast that Buffalo couldn't get a look at the train that just steamrolled past them. Buffalo opened up a 24-9 third quarter lead when the Raiders took charge scoring 29 unanswered points in less than 15 minutes of gametime to take control of a 38-24 victory that likely puts a daggar in the Bills playoff hopes. The Bills opened up their lead thanks to two Mike Gillislee touchdown runs and a Tyrod Taylor scoring run. David Carr threw two touchdown pass and Latavius Murray ran for two for the Raiders. Taylor turned in a solid two and a half quarters then was terrible the rest of the way as he couldn't move the offense and unlike him, he turned it over twice with an interception and a fumble. It was just the third time since 2000 that the Bills blew a 15 point lead. Bills Blitz.
Injury Update: John Miller left the game and went into concussion protocol. He did not return but was cleared. LeSean McCoy suffered from cramps and missed a couple of plays but returned and played very well. Injury Page.
Gameday Inactives: Charles Clay is inactive after not making the trip to Oakland because of the impending birth of his child. Percy Harvin, Robert Woods, and Ronald Darby were inactive after being ruled out on Friday. The healthy scratches are Logan Thomas, Jerel Worthy, and Cardale Jones. With Worthy inactive big nose tackle DeAndre Coleman is active. He was just added from the practice squad this week.
Gameday Weather: Partly Sunny and seasonable for Northern California with a gametime temperature in the upper 50s approaching 60° during the second half of the game. Winds will be light out of the West at 7mph.

Clay Not With Team: Charles Clay was not on the team flight to Oakland as his wife is about to give birth to their child. He remains listed as questionable for the game so there is a chance he will fly out in time for the game. Just in case he doesn't play the team has activated Gerald Christian one more time off of the practice squad and released Jordan Gay. Front Office Page.

Three Ruled Out: Percy Harvin, Ronald Darby, and Robert Woods all missed practice again today and have been ruled out for Sunday's game against Oakland. The good news is all other banged up players were on the field and will likely be available for the game and are listed as questionable. That list includes Marquise Goodwin and Sammy Watkins. Goodwin injured his wrist near the end of yesterday's practice but was on the field with a bandage on the injury. Watkins was on the field which is a good sign that he will play as well. Injury Page.

Watkins Still Has Broken Bone: Sammy Watkins was limited in practice today and Rex Ryan said he looked good and barring any setbacks he should play on Sunday. Offensive Coordinator Anthony Lynn sang a different tune. He said Watkins still has a broken bone in his foot and he's playing through the pain. He only took three snaps in practice and he doesn't know if he will play this week or be able to finish the season. Ryan also said he doesn't think Percy Harvin or Robert Woods will play this week and wasn't optimistic Ronald Darby will play either. Woods was in the locker room with a sleeve on his leg according to the Buffalo News and he said he will be back this season. More injury woes at wide receiver, Marquise Goodwin couldn't finish practice after injuring his wrist. Injury Page.
Watkins On Field: Sammy Watkins was back on the practice field today during individual drills but was back to working on the side with WR coach Sanjay Lal. Also returning to practice were Cordy Glenn, James Ihedigbo, Lorenzo Alexander, and Charles Clay. Ronald Darby and Percy Harvin did not practice, so it looks like an extreme long shot that either player will play on Sunday. The same goes foer Robert Woods who did not practice. On the field, Kevon Seymour is taking the first team reps on the outside in place of the injured Darby. Injury Page.
Practice Squad Move: The team has signed S Shamiel Gray to the practice squad. To make room they placed Joe Powell on the practice squad/injured list. Gray was an undrafted free agent originally signed with the Patriots in 2014. Front Office Page.
Game Preview: The latest must win game is the toughest of all as the Bills travel to the West coast for the third time this year to take on AFC powerhouse Oakland. This is a city where the Bills have not won in 50 years. They did beat the Raiders while they were in Los Angeles. The Bills should be able to move the ball on their defense but slowing down MVP candidate Derek Carr will be a very tough task. Game Preview.

Watkins Sits: It's Wednesday so as usual the injury list is very long as players usually rest their bumps and bruises on the first practice day of the week. Sammy Watkins did not practice today which could be disturbing news. He was scheduled to practice on a limited basis but he ended up sitting out totally with soreness in his foot. It will be interesting to see what he does, if anything, tomorrow. Marcell Dareus practiced on a limited basis with the abdomen injury suffered on Sunday and Mike Gillislee also returned on a limited basis with his hamstring injury. Rex Ryan seems to think both will play on Sunday. Also limited today were Richie Incognito and Preston Brown. They are both new names on the list as is James Ihedigbo who missed practice today. Also sitting out were Robert Woods, Ronald Darby, Percy Harvin, Lorenzo Alexander, Charles Clay, and Cordy Glenn. Each of these players have missed Wednesday practices on a fairly regular basis. Tyrod Taylor was full go but on the injury report with groin soreness. He was limping some during the Jags game and there was a report a couple of weeks ago that he has had ongoing groin issues. Injury Page.
Christian Back: Gerald Christian is back on the Bills practice squad. He has been back and forth between the practice squad, the active roster, and being released. He was last let go last week and will fill one of the two open spots on the practice squad opened up when Dez Lewis and DeAndre Coleman were activated. The other practice squad spot was filled by G Isame Faciane. He was with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent in 2014 and then there practice squad. He entered the NFL as a defensive lineman before switching sides to offense. Front Office Page.

Roster Moves: The Bills have activated WR Dez Lewis and DT DeAndre Coleman off of the practice squad and have placed Corbin Bryant and Walter Powell on injured reserve ending their seasons. Bryant has battled a shoulder injury most of the season and Powell hurt his ankle on Sunday. Lewis is a former 7th round draft pick who made a splash during offseason workouts but fell behind in training camp. Coleman is a big nose tackle who has been on the practice squad all year. The team also filled Seantrel Henderson's roster spot by signing former QB converted to TE Logan Thomas off of the Lions practice squad according to a report by Fox Sports. He is a development project who has upside but doesn't really know how to block yet.
Henderson Suspended: It is now official. The Bills received word today that Seantrel Henderson has been suspended for 10 games for violating the league's substance abuse policy for the second time this year. He has been told to use marijuana in the past to battle his Crohn's Disease. If the Bills don't make the playoffs he won't be able to play until week 6 of next year. The team now will have an open roster spot to use.
A Win Is A Win: Our columnist Tony Bogyo breaks down another win he calls ugly but he will certainly take it like all Bills fans. A big win that keeps the Bills alive in the playoff race. Now is the time for Tyrod Taylor to prove he is a franchise quarterback. Complete Story.

Gillislee Good To Go: Rex Ryan addressed the media on Victory Monday and said that he thinks Mike Gillislee should be good to go this week after missing the Jaguars game with a hamstring injury. He also said LeSean McCoy and Sammy Watkins got through the game fine. The coach won't estimate if Watkins will get more playing time this week as they want to be smart with him. He said Ronald Darby, Marcell Dareus, and Percy Harvin will be watched during the week. Darby is in concussion protocol while Dareus has an abdominal strain and Harvin is bothered by migraines. Thad Brown of WROC is reporting that Robert Woods is expected to miss another two weeks and they are hoping to have him back for the Cleveland game. Ryan was upset with the red zone defense and the pass protection from the offensive line against Jacksonville.
