Lawson Surgery Goes Well: Shaq Lawson underwent surgery in New York City today and WKBW's Shawn Stepner reports it was very successful. Sources also told him Lawson should miss only 4-5 regular season games. That would get him back on the field five months from now in mid October which is the timetable outlined by Adam Schefter on draft day and again yesterday.
3rd Round Pick Signs: The Bills have another draft pick in the fold as third round pick Adolphus Washington has agreed to terms. He becomes the fourth of the team's seven draft picks to sign. Watkins Has Surgery: It was as bad a day for the Bills as you can have in mid May. Less than an hour after the news broke that Shaq Lawson will have shoulder suregery tomorrow, it was revealed that Sammy Watkins had surgery on a broken foot a few weeks ago. Watkins played with a stress fracture last year. The surgery put a screw in to a small broken bone in his foot. He is expecte to be sidelined around 4 to 6 weeks. Local media reports say he will be ready for training camp while Adam Schefter says he will miss training camp. Watkins tweeted that fans shouldn't believe everything they hear without elaborating. Schefter is also reporting that Lawson will be out 5 to 6 months.
Lawson Needs Surgery Afterall: Shaq Lawson told the media after the draft that he doesn't understand where Adam Schefter gets his stuff about needing shoulder surgery. It turns out Schefter was right, after suffering a reoccurence of his shoulder injury in the offseason workouts the team has decided to take the pre-emptive approach and he will have surgery tomorrow. Schefter had originally reported it will be a 4-6 month recovery process. The Bills won't put a timetable for his return until after the procedure but if Schefter is correct about the timetable there is a chance that his rookie season could be a redshirt year since he would also need time to get back into game shape. The team released a statement about the surgery that said, "The Buffalo Bills are taking measures to prevent the possibility of Shaq Lawson aggravating a pre-existing shoulder condition during the season. While he could continue to play, the Bills medical staff has determined that surgery is the best course of action for the overall health of his shoulder moving forward. He had an occurrence of the condition last week, but that would not preclude him from participating in the offseason program. Shaq is scheduled for surgery tomorrow on his shoulder with a rehabilitation program to follow. A timetable for his return is still being established.” Doug Whaley had his own statement that said, “I want to take this opportunity to commend Shaq Lawson and his representatives for putting the team first by having this surgery on his shoulder done now. By doing so, he’s forsaking personal goals to be 100 percent healthy when we will need him most during the regular season. Fans constantly hear us say that we want players with tremendous character who keep team goals ahead of personal ones and Shaq is a great example of this.”
