Training Camp In Full Swing

Sunday August 6, 2017

Day 9 Camp Notes: The Bills had a scare during this afternoon's practice at St. Johns Fisher College. Sammy Watkins limped off after a play and went to get looked at. He ended up coming back and taking part in a team drill or two. It turned out to be a slightly twisted ankle and not an issue with the foot. He said he will be able to ice it tonight and should be good to go during tomorrow morning's practice. Tyrod Taylor came up a little lame late in the practice with a left leg issue. He played through it though. Cordy Glenn was back on the field and said he felt reassured by Dr. Bob Anderson when he went to see him. He feels confident he will be good to go for the start of the season and acknowledged that there is a practice plan in place for him. Micah Hyde and Shaq Lawson both practiced on a limited basis as Hyde comes back from a hip injury and Lawson is battling a groin injury from Friday night. Former Panthers great WR Steve Smith was in attendance for the NFL Network and spoke to the receivers at the end of practice. Injury Page.

Injury Update: The Bills suffered three injuries last night in their weather delayed practice at New Era Field. Shaq Lawson suffered a groin injury but it is considered minor and he should be back on the field quickly. They reportedly held him out as a precaution. Keith Towbridge left with an ankle injury. He had x-rays we should get an update on his condition when the team returns to practice at St. Johns Fisher College tomorrow afternoon. Ryan Davis suffered a concussion and is in the protocol. According to the Associated Press Cordy Glenn got good news when he went for his 2nd opinion from renowned foot doctor Bob Anderson. The report is that his foot is structurally sound and he is expected to return to practice next week. Injury Page.

Day 8 Camp Notes: Tonight's practice at New Era Field was delayed because of lightning in the area but eventually they allowed the fans in their seats and started practice in the rain. Ryan Davis walked off with trainers early in the session. Sean McDermott addressed the media beforehand and said that Micah Hyde won't practice because of his hip injury and Cordy Glenn is sidelined with his foot soreness. Ian Seau remains sidelined as well and Philly Brown is still ill. Glenn went to have a second opinion from renowned foot specialist Dr. Bob Anderson who worked with Sammy Watkins. Surgery has not been ruled out but he is still day to day and they still expect him back on the practice field soon. Kyle Williams had a veteran's day off. Injury Page.

Day 7 Camp Notes: Micah Hyde sat out this morning's practice with the hip injury suffered yesterday. Shamiel White took his first team reps again today. Cordy Glenn sat out with foot soreness which has Sean McDermott concerned that he is still having foot and ankle issues. The soreness is related to the ankle problem that kept him out this spring. Philly Brown was out with an illness. They gave Charles Clay another maintenance day as they are being proactive with his chronic knee issue. McDermott said they signed Taiwan Jones because of the speed he brings to the return game. The coach also said that there will be some live hitting and tackling to the ground during tomorrow evening's practice at New Era Field. Tre'Davious White left for a spell with a blister on his foot and was replaced by Kevon Seymour. Injury Page.

Bills Sign RB: The Bills had former Raiders RB Taiwan Jones for a visit today and signed him. He will have a chance to make a difference in the return game and will challenge for playing time behind LeSean McCoy in the backfield. He also has experience playing CB but will be a RB with the Bills. He was in Oakland the past six seasons and made most of his impact as a kick returner.

Day 6 Camp Notes: The first big scare of training camp happened today when Micah Hyde made a diving interception of a Tyrod Taylor pass. He was in pain on the ground then walked off gingerly with what looked like a left knee injury. Minutes later he returned to the sidelines dancing around and appeared fine. It is being called a hip injury but he's ok and did return to practice. Michael Ola was also shaken up and went off with trainers. Brandon Tate returned to practice on a limited basis today after missing a few days with a calf injury. LeSean McCoy was back on the field after missing yesterday with a stomach bug. Richie Incognito got the veteran's day off today. Injury Page.

Day 5 Camp Notes: With Ronald Darby back on the field, Kevon Seymour went back to taking 2nd team reps behind Leondard Johnson at the nickel spot. Tyrod Taylor had a rough day according to media accounts while Dion Dawkins showed progress at run blocking. Shaq Lawson got another sack as he continues to be a star in the early days of camp. Marcell Dareus spoke to the media after practice and said he needs to drink more water to avoid hamstring tweaks. He called Kyle Williams his work wife and said he was so glad he returned this year. Dareus said he doesn't pay attention to critics and that he is out to prove something to himself, the fans, and his teammates on the field this year. Max Valles was with the third team on the defensive line today after spending most of camp with the 2nd team. He answered the bell with two sacks. Eddie Yarbrough was with the 2nd team after a solid start to camp. Mike Tolbert and Jonathan Williams split first team reps with LeSean McCoy sick. Tanner Vallejo got first team reps with Lorenzo Alexander sitting out for a maintenance day.

McDermott Speaks Before Practice: The Bills hit the field this morning after having yesterday off. Sean McDermott addressed the media before practice. He said LeSean McCoy wouldn't practice on Tuesday because of an illness. Marcell Dareus will be back however they will monitor his reps. Ronald Darby returns to practice after being sidelined with a slight ankle injury. Eric Wood and Lorenzo Alexander are getting veteran rest days. No change in the status of the injured three Colt Anderson, Brandon Tate, and Ian Seau. On the backup RB spot he likes the effort and strides being made by Jonathan Williams. He is happy with the work they have put in so far but they have a lot more to do to grow as a football team on and off the field. Part of the evaluation process is having twos playing with the ones and mixing and matching to see who can handle the next level. On Reggie Ragland not playing with the ones, McDermott said there is a plan like there is for every player. They are just acclimating him right now in what essentially is his first full training camp. They like what he is doing so far but a lot of work remains. Seantrel Henderson has done well in camp so far despite what he has dealt with off the field. He came in at 340 lbs. but is going up and down becaue of his issues. He is encouraged by the competition and play on both sides of the line. He loves the leadership of Eric Wood and Richie Incognito.

Monday July 31, 2017
