Bills Lose In Wildcard Round Of The Playoffs

Sunday January 7, 2018

Gameday Grades: A defensive struggle was expected and the Bills defense came to play but the offense was just offensive against the Jaguars incredible defense. Gameday Grades.

Bills Blitz: The Bills playoff drought is over but the playoff win drought continues as they lost to the Jaguars in a predictable defensive struggle 10-3. The Bills only got deep into Jacksonville territory once and decided to throw on 1st and goal from the 2 instead of run it. The pass resulted in a pass interference penalty forcing the Bills to settle for a field goal. The Jaguars then tied it with a field goal in the closing seconds of the first half. Jacksonville took control of the game when Blake Bortels found tight end Ben Koyack for a one yard touchdown on 4th and goal to give them the lead they would not relinquish. Tyrod Taylor got hurt on the final drive and Nathan Peterman threw the game clinching interception in Jacksonville territory. Bills Blitz.

Injury Update: Tyrod Taylor and Micah Hyde are in concussion protocol after leaving the game with head injuries. Richie Incognito left for a bit with a quadricep injury but returned. Charles Clay left with a hamstring injury but did play sparingly in the 2nd half. Tre'Davious White left with cramps but returned. Colt Anderson suffered an injury late in the game. Injury Page.

Gameday Inactives: When the inactive list came out all eyes were on it to see if LeSean McCoy was on it. He was not and will give it a go today. One report said he will be at about 80%. Matt Milano was the other gametime decision and he will not play with his hamstring injury which is a blow to the Bills defense. Ramon Humber moves back into the starting lineup. He played very well last week. Shareece Wright was ruled out on Friday with a concussion. All of the other questionable players are active as expected. The healthy scratches are John Miller, Khari Lee, Brandon Reilly, Malachi Dupre, and Conor McDermott. That means Breon Borders will make his Bills debut and Logan Thomas will be active at tight end giving them another receiving threat.

Gameday Weather: It will be cold for the people of North Florida for this playoff game but downright balmy for the thousands of fans that made the trip from Western New York. There will be a mix of sun and clouds with a high temperature of 53°. There will be some wind with it out of the Northeast at 13mph.

I will be watching this game with a lot of people and will be intensely watching so there may be less tweeting than usual but please follow us on twitter! for some commentary during the game and updates afterwards!

Shady Likely To Play: Adam Schefter reported tonight that according to scources, LeSean McCoy is likely to play. This is not too much of a surprise since the Bills did not activate Aaron Green from the practice squad. The Bills will likely workout Shady before the game before making the final decision on whether or not to have him active. While it is likely that he is active the bigger question is how effective will he be. He has been getting round the clock treatment on his ankle since injuring it last Sunday. When he was carted off against Miami it looked to be a much more serious injury than it turned out to be.

Shady Makes The Trip: LeSean McCoy made the trip to Jacksonville with the team which was expected. The team has not activated RB Aaron Green from the practice squad which could be a good sign towards Shady's availability for tomorrow's Wildcard matchup.

Friday January 5, 2018

McCoy Questionable: As expected LeSean McCoy has been listed as questionable for Sunday's playoff game after practicing on a limited basis today. Matt Milano did not practice today and is also listed as questionable. He seems less likely to play. Shareece Wright has been ruled out. Jordan Mills is questionable but practiced fully today so he is likely to play. Joe Webb and Deonte Thompson were limited again today and are also questionable for Sunday's game. For the Jaguars Marqise Lee expects to play but is questionable with an ankle injury and T.J. Yeldon is questionable with an illness. Injury Page.

Hyde Honored: The honors continue to roll in for Micah Hyde he was named 2nd team All-Pro by the Associated Press. This on the heels of being named to the Pro Bowl he has been a standout since signing becoming the team's premier free agent signing this offseason. He had five interceptions on the season.

McDermott Presser: Sean McDermott had his Wildcard Week Friday press conference today. He said LeSean McCoy will do some things today and in individual drills. It is one movement at a time and they will go from there. He will be limited in practice today. Matt Milano will not practice today and it will be difficult for him to play on Sunday but there are hoping he could go. Shareece Wright will not practice and is still in concussion protocol and will be out for the game. Also limited today are Charles Clay, Joe Webb, Kelvin Benjamin, and Deonte Thompson. Injury Page.

Shady Speaks: LeSean McCoy spoke to the media in the locker room today after practice in which he was a non participant. He said he is happy with how things are working out so far but he has a lot of room for improvement especially the way he plays with the cutting and running. He said he just wants to be able to cut well enough where there isn't a lot of pain. He wants to be as close to 100 percent as he can get but in a game like this you have to lay it all on the line. He says he still has time to get where he needs to be to give it a go. He doesn't want to make any promises that he will play because he doesn't want to be out there if he will hurt the team.

McCoy Hits The Field: LeSean McCoy was on the field with his teammates for the stretching portion of practice. He seemed to be moving fairly well. He then left the field to go into the training room before the start of individual drills. He had a slight limp. It does seem like a step in the right direction although he will likely be named a non participant. Returning to practice today in some capacity were Jordan Mills and Deonte Thompson. Matt Milano took part in stretching exercises then went to work with trainers on the side during individual drills. Shareece Wright remains sidelined. Injury Page.

Poyer Honored: Jordan Poyer has been named the AFC Defensive Player of the Month for December. He had three interceptions in the month and finished the season with five picks and two sacks. He is the only player in the NFL to do that. Poyer and Micah Hyde are the only duo with five interceptions each in the league this season.

Shady Update: The Bills are being tight lipped when it comes to the availability of LeSean McCoy for Sunday's playoff game. Chris Brown reported on the John Murphy Show yesterday that he saw Shady wearing flip flops on both feet at the facility. Josh Reed of WIVB reports that sources say McCoy's ankle injury is not a high ankle sprain. That is good news but he also says that does not necessarily mean he will be ready to play on Sunday as he remains day to day. A regular sprain is quicker to come back from than a high ankle sprain in most cases. Injury Page.

Wildcard Preview: For only the third time in the 20 season history of Bills Daily we get to write about a playoff game. The Bills travel down to Florida to take on the third seeded Jacksonville Jaguars. As if the first postseason game in almost 18 years to the day isn't enough intrigue, there is more. The Bills face the coach that quit on the, and the star defensive linemen they unloaded earlier this season. Complete Preview.

Wednesday January 3, 2018

McDermott Presser: It's a playoff week media day at One Bills Drive! Sean McDermott addressed the media today and spoke about LeSean McCoy's injury situation. He said he will not practice today and he's day to day. They will take it one day at a time. McCoy's a fierce competitor who is hard at work maximizing the treatment possiblities to get him ready to play. If Shady can't go it is next man up and he has a lot of confidence in Mike Tolbert and Marcus Murphy. On Murphy, he said he has experience in this league and he was on Brandon Beane's radar. He thought he handled himself well this weekend. On the Jacksonville defense, the coach couldnt' find any holes saying they are very talented and well coached. On facing Marcell Dareus he said they made the decision that was right for their team and they have moved on and so has Marcell and he's a big part of a very talented defense there. Not a lot favors the Bills when you look at the rankings but they need to put the right plan in place to earn the right to compete this week. It will be a big challenge for them this week especially with Leonard Fournette. He can get outside and make the explosive runs which is a big challenge for their run defense. This is what they worked for and it is fun to be on the ride with the fans and see the excitement in the community. On the signing of Aaron Green to the practice squad, he was the right choice for the team at this time after a workout. They will get a look at him in practice today. They are just going to be them once the ball is kicked off it is another game. Not practicing besides Shady are Shareece Wright, Matt Milano, Deonte Thompson, Jordan Mills, and Kyle Williams. Mills is ok but turned his ankle against Miami. Milano has a hamstring injury and Williams is getting a day off. Wright remains in concussion protocol. Injury Page.

Tuesday January 2, 2018

Practice Squad Move: The Bills added a running back to the practice squad to protect them in case LeSean McCoy can't play. The Bills added Aaron Green to the unit and released S L.J. McCray from the unit. Green has yet to carry the ball in the NFL. He was originally with the Rams but was out of football most of the year. He was on the Cowboys practice squad for a bit in December. Front Office Page.

Tuesday Notes: The Bills announced yesterday that they have signed WR Rod Streater to a futures contract meaning he will be back with the Bills this offseason with another chance at playing for Buffalo. Adam Schefter reports that sources tell him that LeSean McCoy will be a gametime decision on Sunday and it will be a close call to get himm ready for the playoff game. Billsmafia continues to shine and are getting national attention for the amount of money being donated to the AJD Foundation. So far over $100,000 has been raised by Bills fans for the Bengals QB's foundation to help sick and special needs children. The coaching and frontoffice carousel may effect the Bills administration. VP of Player Personnel Brian Gaine will interview for the open GM job in Houston. He was the Director of Player Personnel for the Texans before joining the Bills last year. The draft pick the Bills get from Jacksonville for Marcell Dareus is now a 5th round draft pick instead of what was originally a 6th rounder thanks to the Jags making the playoffs.

Bogyo Column: Tony Bogyo's latest article talks about what else, but the Bills finally ending the 17 year playoff drought. Complete Story.

Monday January 1 2018

McDermott Presser: Sean McDermott addressed the media today and called it an incredible situation that they saw at the airport when they arrived home. The flight home was great and it was fun to watch the players relax and enjoy the moment together. The pilot said that the tower said congratulations to the team. He has never been part of an environment and situation like they were in after the Bengals win. The coach said LeSean McCoy is going to have a chance to play on Sunday and he got good news this morning that the x-rays were negative. They will continue to monitor his situation this week. He loved what he saw yesterday when Marcus Murphy and Mike Tolbert stepped up. He said Murphy has earned the right with his opportunities and he executed well. He saw some of the videos out there and said it is a neat thing to be a part of. The reaction at different places when they got in including the video in the concourse of Hard Rock Stadium brought a tear to his eye. There was a lot of praying going on when the Bengals had 4th and 12 if they didn't get in there was still a lot to build on. They have a lot of room to grow still. He reached out to the Bengals offensive coordinator and Coach Marvin Lewis to show his appreciation and their defensive coordinator reached out to him to congratulate the Bills. He thought Tyrod Taylor did a phenomenal job and played a good, solid job yesterday. He said Taylor has good, mental toughness and that showed when he got benched. He called the win over Kansas City a landmark moment in the season. On the Kyle Williams touchdown he said he's a guy he trusts and he did play running back in high school. They didn't put that in until this week.

Bills Blitz: The drought is over! The Bills held on to defeat the Dolphins 22-16 and a short time later Andy Dalton found Tyler Boyd for an incredible 49 yard touchdown to give the Bengals a win over the Ravens and put the Bills into the playoffs. The Bills took care of their own business first as they opened up a 22-3 lead as Tyrod Taylor found Nick O'Leary for a 26 yard touchdown on the Bills opening drive. They also got a one yard touchdown plunge from Kyle Williams who was lined up at fullback midway through the third quarter. The Bills opened up a 22-3 lead and held on after Miami recovered an onside kick against them for the 2nd time in three weeks. They clinched the victory with a Jordan Poyer interception. Bills Blitz.

Injury Update: LeSean McCoy suffered an ankle injury and was carted off, he did not return. Reports say x-rays were negative. Jordan Mills suffered an ankle injury of his own late in the first half but did return. Injury Page.
