Bills Add Three To Administration

Friday March 9, 2018

Bills Trade Tyrod: Tyrod Taylor is no longer a Bill. The team has traded him to the Cleveland Browns for the first pick in the third round of the draft, 65th overall. The Browns made this trade on the heels of trading with Miami for WR Jarvis Landry. One has to wonder if the Browns are no longer going to take a QB in the first round. They probably will but it opens up a possiblility that they trade back instead of taking one. Maybe the Bills and Browns aren't done dealing yet. The trade gives the Bills a higher pick than I thought they would get for him considering everyone figured he was on the market. They also clear more than $10 Million in cap space and are not on the hook for the $6 Million roster bonus. It also gives the Bills more capital for a trade up for a quarterback on draft day. They now have two picks in each of the first three rounds again. They traded their third rounder to Carolina for Kelvin Benjamin but recoup a higher pick in the Tyrod trade. They also have the Eagles third rounder in the Darby-Matthews trade. Vic Carucci is reporting that the Cardinals and Broncos were also interested in Taylor but their offers weren't nearly as much as the Browns offer. Draft Page.

Bills Add A DE: The Bills have signed their third free agent before the start of free agency next week. Former Giants DE Owa Odighizuwa has been signed to a one year deal after a visit. He was a third round pick by the Giants in 2015 but didn't have much impact in New York. He played in 18 games in his two seasons with just six tackles. He was suspended for the first four games of last season for violating the leads substance abuse policy. He was then released by the Giants and did not play in the league last year. Bills Sign Ivory: The Bills added depth to their running back corps by signing former Jaguars Chris Ivory to a two year deal. Ian Rapoport says the deal is worth up to $6 Million with $3.25 Million guaranteed. The Bills have now signed the two free agents that visited before the start of the free agency period. Ivory gives them a change of pace from LeSean McCoy and will replace Mike Tolbert on the roster. Ivory led the AFC in rushing in 2015 while with the Jets and spent the last two years in Jacksonville. McDermott At Combine: Sean McDermott spoke to the media this morning at the combine and said many things but the overall theme was that everything will work itself out. He said once again that everyone will have to earn a starting job and that includes newly signed Vontae Davis who will work on the outside at first but may get a look at the slot. He re-iterated how he feels about Kyle Williams and said him coming back will have to be right for Kyle, his family, and the team. Brandon Beane has been in contact with him. On Preston Brown, he said he was a big part of their defense. On Tyrod Taylor he said his work ethic is unmatched and that nobody can take away from him that he was instrumental in getting the team back to the playoffs and cutting him is not in the plans. On the future of the position he said they are still going through the process. He said the team is not as far along as people think they are and they are now turning their attention on the draft and focusing on the prospects as they have done their homework on free agency already. On Nate Peterman, he said his DNA is the right fit for the team and he will grow in year 2. The coach confirmed that Kelvin Benjamin, Zay Jones, and Cordy Glenn are all doing well after offseason surgery and will be ready for the offseason conditioning program in April. The new analytical hire is for the football side not the business side.

Beane At Combine: An hour after McDermott spoke at the combine, Brandon Beane spoke to the media. He said LeSean McCoy is the running back for this football team and shot down any rumors that they are looking to trade him or release him because of his cap figure. He said he will be a big part of the team in 2018 and is healthy and ready to go. On the signing of Vontae Davis he said they vetted him well and has the size, speed, and experience they are looking for. He said the signing does not mean they won't try to re-sign E.J. Gaines. On Tyrod Taylor he said they have no problem paying him the $6 Million bonus and he is on the team right now and that his the plan. They are looking at every position though including QB. On the draft, he said he loves his draft picks and to trade up costs a lot so you have to be convinced the guy is the right one for your long term plan. He did say the vetting at the QB position is more thorough then other positions. On Kyle Williams, he hopes he makes his decision sooner rather than later. He Doesn’t know if it’s a matter of retiring or not retiring. We want him back if he wants to keep playing.

Ivory Visits: The Bills hosted another free agent yesterday as former Jaguars RB Chris Ivory was in town. He left Buffalo and visited with the Browns today. He would add some much needed depth behind LeSean McCoy and could be the 2nd free agent signing before the start of free agency meaning he would not count against the compensatory picks.

Davis Contract Details: Vontae Davis officially signed his contract today with the Bills. It's reportedly a 1 year deal worth $5 Million with playing time incentives that can see it grow to $8 Million. He reportedly has $3.5 Million guaranteed.

Bills Get Davis: Free agent CB Vontae Davis was coveted as he was an early entry to the free agent frenzy because he was released in November by the Colts. Five teams had him in for a visit but tonight he tweeted #BillsMafia confirming he is joining the Bills. Adam Schefter reports it's a one year deal. The move means the Bills are very likely to move on from E.J. Gaines who is going to command a good salary on the free agent market. Front Office Page.
