Week 6: Bills vs. Jets
at
Sunday, Oct. 18th
4:15pm ET
|
The Bills come into this game after losing two straight games to previously winless teams. They have scored only one offensive touchdown in three straight losses and the team is just reeling with injuries and lack of confidence. They now take on a division opponent and try to snap a 10 game losing streak against the AFC East. The Jets come in angry after losing two straight road games and will look to get healthy quick against one of the league's bottom dwellers.

INJURY UPDATE
The Bills may get two injured players back this week. Donte Whitner and Paul Posluszny are expected to return to action. Whitner has missed two games with a thumb injury. Poz has been out since the opener with a broken forearm. Kawika Mitchell and Marcus Buggs are the latest two players to be lost for the season. They join Leodis McKelvin, Derek Schouman, and Brad Butler as players who's season have ended prematurely. Jonathan Scott and Bryan Scott will likely remain out as both of them have ankle sprains.
The Jets should get CB Lito Sheppard back this week after missing three games with a quadriceps injury. WR Jerricho Crotchery is questionable with a hamstring injury that has been bothering him. WR Brad Smith and G Damien Woody are currently slowed by foot injuries. CB Donald Strickland missed Monday night's loss with an ankle injury.
Check out our Bills Daily Injury Page throughout the week for the latest updates on the injured players.
KEY MATCHUPS
LB Keith Ellison vs. TE Dustin Keller: If Poz comes back as expected, then Ellison will likely deal with Keller in the passing game. He is an up and coming star at the tight end position and may be poised for a big day against the weak middle of the Bills defense.
CB Drayton Florence vs. WR Brandon Edwards: The Bills didn't have to face the talented Edwards last week against Cleveland because he was traded to the Jets. They get him this week and may have Terrence McGee shadow him. If not, Florence is the guy that would line up with him. He needs to shut him down for the Bills to have a chance to keep the game close.
LB Paul Posluszny vs. RBs Thomas Jones and Leon Washington: The run defense of the Bills has been getting killed. Getting Poz back should help and he faces a solid one-two punch in Jones and Washington. He needs to keep them from getting big gainers on the misdirection plays up the middle.
RBs Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson vs. ILBs Bart Scott and David Harris: Scott is the bigger name here but Harris leads the team in sacks and tackles. The Bills need a good running game to keep the pressure off of Trent Edwards and to stop the Jets from blitzing every down.
WR Terrell Owens vs. CB Lito Sheppard: Two former teammates with great respect for each other battle it out. We have been waiting for a breakout game from Owens. Will this be the week? Probably not.
WR Lee Evans vs. CB Darrelle Revis: Many people are calling Revis quite possibly the best corner in the league. Evans is quite possibly the most overrated wide receiver in the league. Will he ever get open? Advantage: Revis.
GAME PLAN
When The Bills Have The Ball: Reports say they are finally ready to scrap the no huddle offense. This should settle down the offense and make for less mistakes. Whether it leads to more production I highly doubt it. They need to establish a running game to keep the Jets from pinning their ears back on every play.
When The Jets Have The Ball: Look for them to mix in a solid combination of runs and passes to keep the Bills banged up defense off balance. They will likely attack the middle of the field where the Bills are weakened the most by injury.
BILLS DAILY PREDICTION
The Jets have suffered two tough road losses and must love the fact they are getting back to the friendly confines of the Meadowlands. They are now 3-2 and need to get back in the win column. They must be licking their chops to see the lowly Bills come to town. Do the Bills have a chance? No way, they are in total disarray and have no chance against a very good Jets team. The question is will they score?
