Bills Hold On For Victory 19-14

AP Photo - Trent Edwards Defense Leads The Way: While Willis McGahee did get his yards and a big touchdown, the Bills defense came to play and kept the Ravens down enough to pull out the win. The offense struggled again even though Trent Edwards managed a good game besides a bad interception in the fourth quarter. Gameday Grades.

Bills Win 19-14: Rian Lindell hit four field goals and Marshawn Lynch scored the Bills lone touchdown as they held off the Ravens 19-14 and moved their record to 2-4. The defense played solid and held off the Ravens in the end for the victory. Willis McGahee ran for 114 yards in his return to the Ralph including a 46 yard touchdown run that got the Ravens back in to the game. Lynch ran for 84 yards in the win. Trent Edwards managed a decent game but did throw a critical interception in the 4th quarter that kept the Ravens in the game. We will have complete coverage over the next two days. Game Review.

Kelsay Banged Up: The Bills got out of the win fairly healthy. The two new injuries were to Chris Kelsay and Kiwaukee Thomas. Kelsay who suffered a leg injury in the second half and did not return although it didn't seem serious. The injury to Thomas also didn't seem too bad. Injury Page.

Beautiful Weather: The weather for today's game will be more like an opener and less like the middle of fall. The high temperature for this game could be up to 76°. Wind will be out of the south southwest at about 9mph. There is almost no chance at any precipitation.

Anderson Cut; Schouman Activated: The Bills made another move on Saturday activating the third player this week from the practice squad. TE Derek Schouman is now activated and the team made room by somewhat surprisingly releasing DT Tim Anderson. The former third round pick played sparingly in the defensive tackle rotation. Schouman may be needed since the team moved Matt Murphy to tackle this week. Depth Chart.

Co. Exec. For Toronto Game: The Bills looking to play a couple of games in Toronto has stirred up many opinions. Erie County Executive Joel Giambra is for the move. He called it in the best interest of the franchise and the county. Most people believe the move is essential to bring more fans to Western New York and keep the team viable in the future in Buffalo after Ralph Wilson dies. Some think this is the first step towards the team permanently re-locating to Toronto. What do you think? Take our poll on our homepage and let us know!

Aiken Doubtful: The final injury report came out and the Bills list Sam Aiken and Ashton Youboty as doubtful for the game with their injuries. Four other players that practiced all week are listed as probable. The Ravens are more banged up than the Bills with five players listed as questionable and three listed as doubtful. Injury Page.

Bills Promote Two: The Bills promoted two players from the practice squad yesterday as they added WR Justin Jenkins and QB Gibran Hamdan to the active roster. To make room for them they placed Peerless Price on injured reserve. He becomes the ninth member of the team to placed on the season ending list this year. The team also released Craig Nall for the 2nd time in two months. The Price move was expected and the team needs another wideout with Sam Aiken hurt, leaving the team with just three healthy wide receivers before the Jenkins move. The Nall move must mean the Bills do think J.P. Losman is healthy or else why wouldn't they carry an experienced third QB for at least one more week? Front Office Page.

Aiken Still Out: Sam Aiken remained out of practice yesterday with a hamstring strain leaving the team in a position to have to add a receiver before Sunday's game. They still haven't placed Peerless Price on injured reserve. Kyle Williams was back at practice yesterday. Injury Page.

Bills Seek Approval: The Bills officially asked today for approval to play games in Toronto. They would like to play a preseason game there next year and a regular season game in 2009. As we reported earlier, they want to do this to help the expansion of the team's reach as a regional franchise. The team statement said it will enhance the viability and competitiveness of the team in Western New York. The move needs approval from the NFL and Erie County. A condition in the lease that runs through 2012 says that the Bills need permission from the county to play any home games outside of it. The team sent a letter of request to Erie County.

Game In Toronto? A Canadian newspaper reportedly obtained a statement from the Bills that said they are looking to play a regular season game in Toronto as early as next season. The team reportedly is hoping to capitalize and the increased interest from Canadian fans according to the article. The CFL Commissioner confirmed the statement and said it is from the Bills not the NFL. The league would need to approve a game in Toronto.

Edwards Excited: Trent Edwards spoke to the media today about his third straight start coming up on Sunday. He says it's exciting but they have a lot of work to do and he has a lot of responsibility ahead of him as they face a tough defense that causes turnovers. He needs to make the right decision on every down and watch out for where each defender is on every play. The starter says he's anxious to win whether it means getting the ball downfield more or not. Right now he has to go with what plays are called and what defenses are giving him. He feels very confident with the gameplan he has been given this week. He is taking all the experience he is getting as a positive and trying to use it to his advantage.

Losman Feels Ready To Play: J.P. Losman spoke to the media today after being informed yesterday by Dick Jauron that he would not start this week against the Ravens. He said the coaches obviously aren't 100% sure that he's ready to play and he said he doesn't know what would happen if he played and that he might not be 100%. He did say he feels like he is ready to play and he will dress and be ready in case he's needed. Even though he does feel good he knows the coach has heard that before. Losman said as a player you never feel totally comfortable as a starter and the injury cut short his quest from reaching certain goals. He feels it's an awkward situation like in 2005. When asked if he's tired of being jerked around, he laughed and said "what do you think?" He has seen a lot of crazy things and he knows that anything can happen and he can be back in there. If he gets another shot he will play with a chip on his shoulder and prove to "whoever" that he can do all the things that needs to be done. He said you have to believe the coach when he says it was his decision but he says it is a business. It seems like he believes it was the owner's decision. He feels he earned a second chance after playing only two games against two very tough defensive opponents.

Denney Out: Dick Jauron announced in his media day press conference that Ryan Denney has been ruled out for this week's game against the Ravens. There must have been a setback as Denney was practicing up until today. Sam Aiken was held out of practice with a hamstring injury. If he can't go the team would need to add a wide receiver as that would leave them with just three healthy receivers. They still haven't placed Peerless Price on injured reserve. Kyle Williams missed practice with the flu. Ashton Youboty was limited. Some bit of good news, Coy Wire and Brad Butler are not on the injury report at all. Injury Page.

Edwards Gets Nod This Week: It is now official, as we reported yesterday, Trent Edwards will get the start at quarterback this week against Baltimore. As we speculated this morning, it is because the team feels J.P. Losman's knee isn't 100%. Losman and Edwards both said that the decision to go to Edwards is for this week only at this time. Jauron said that he consulted with Marv Levy and Ralph Wilson but maintained the decision was his. Losman will be the backup and the whole situation will be re-evaluated next week when the rust is off of Losman.

Emotions Run High: This week's game against the Baltimore Ravens will be high on emotions thanks to the return of Willis McGahee to the area he seemed to loathe as a member of the Buffalo Bills. He should be raring to go and have a big game as he usually does when he's highly motivated. The Ravens are very banged up however which could give the Bills a chance at an upset. Complete Preview.

Losman Not 100%? When the Bills announce today that Trent Edwards remains as the starter they may have a way to save face for J.P. Losman. Lee Evans told WGR that Losman isn't 100% recovered from his knee injury and that Edwards has received the majority of the snaps in practice. He also confirmed to the radio station that Edwards will get the nod this week. Jauron may just say that they are going with Edwards because of Losman's health. We will find out later today and have reaction from Jauron, Edwards, and Losman.

Everett Improving: Kevin Everett continues his remarkable recovery from his devastating injury on opening day. He can now move his feet to push himself around with a wheelchair. He can also briefly stand up on his own with the help of a walker.

Tuesday October 16, 2007

It's Edwards: Chris Mortensen for ESPN is reporting that the Bills have decided to stick with Trent Edwards at quarterback at least for the short term. He won't be handed the job for the entire season but could hold on to the job if he plays well. The report says that the Bills feel Edwards gives them the best chance at winning and that owner Ralph Wilson had input in the decision. J.P. Losman said yesterday that there were other factors in a QB decision and that he didn't know who was making the call at the position. Dick Jauron is expected to announce the move tomorrow.

Bills Get Healthier: Ashton Youboty, Ryan Denney, and Coy Wire all took part in practice on Monday and should return from their injuries against the Ravens. Brad Butler also practiced on Monday after injuring his hip against the Cowboys, he also should be ready for Sunday's game. The only player who isn't out for the year that won't be ready to play this weekend is Jim Leonhard. He's bothered by a calf injury. Injury Page.

QB Decision Tomorrow: The Bills held their first workout yesterday since Thursday. It was thought there would be at least a clue as to the starting QB would be. That did not happen as the Bills stayed in their bye week practice mode all three QBs got equal reps once again with Trent Edwards taking the first rep as he did last week as well. Dick Jauron said don't read anything into the first rep and that his decision will be made before practice on Wednesday. He will inform both QBs of his decision at that time.

Monday October 15, 2007

Hargrove Guilty: Anthony Hargrove put the ugly mess of his nightclub altercation behind him. He pleaded guilty to a disordely conduct charge and was fined $300 and has to perform 200 hours of community service. Hargrove was charged with resisting arrest, criminal mischief, and harassment for his part in the incident that happened in a surburban Rochester nightclub on August 5th.

Back To Work: The Bills get back to work today as they prepare for the Ravens coming to town on Sunday. The team had an extended three day weekend to rest and many of the injured players will return to action this week as well including most likely Ashton Youboty, Ryan Denney, and Coy Wire. Dick Jauron also has a decision ahead of him, who will be the quarterback this weekend? J.P. Losman practiced last week and should be ready to go but Jauron said he would wait until this week to decide who will start. A decision will most likely be reached today. The Ravens will be without their top QB as Kyle Boller is expected to get his third start of the season in place of Steve McNair.

Friday October 12, 2007

Jackson At WR? The Bills are looking at all their options at wide receiver. They only have four active receivers now since Peerless Price is out for the year and awaiting his place on injured reserve. Dick Jauron said he will add a receiver but maybe just to the practice squad. One option as a fifth receiver in an emergency is Fred Jackson. He already acts as the emergency QB and took some reps at wide receiver in practice yesterday.

Thursday October 11, 2007

Losman Back: J.P. Losman was back on the practice field when the team worked out yesterday. He said he was tentative for a few plays as he got over the mental block from the knee injury but he made it through the workout fine. Dick Jauron said he won't make a decision on his starting quarterback until next week. He wants to make sure that Losman is totally healthy before deciding on his signal caller. Losman said he will be ready to go and will prepare like he's starting. Lee Evans said on both Tuesday and yesterday that he feels Losman should reamin the starter and shouldn't lose the job to injury. Jauron talked about how both quarterbacks have different strengths and weaknesses.

Injured Players Return: Three other injured players hit the practice field on Wednesday, Ryan Denney, Ashton Youboty, and Coy Wire each took part in some drills. Youboty wasn't at full speed yet and Wire was still hobbled a bit. Denney looked the best of the three according to reports. Not practicing were Robert Royal and Chris Kelsay. They were a suffering from extra soreness from the game. Brad Butler did not practice with the hip contusion he suffered against Dallas. Jim Leonhard remains sidelines with the calf strain he has. Michael Gaines was excused from practice yesterday for family reasons. Injury Page.
