Bills Offense Explodes For 33-21 Victory

AP Photo - J.P. Losman Balanced Effort: The Bills had a great balanced effort as the offense played their best game of the year and it probably was the best game of the year for the defense as well. They helped pick up the special teams when they made a rare big mistake. Gameday Grades.

Bills Win 33-21: The offense exploded for 17 4th quarter points as the Bills beat the Bengals 33-21 for their third straight win to get to the .500 mark at the midway point of the season. Marshawn Lynch threw a touchdown pass to give them the lead and then put it away with a 56 yard touchdown run that gave him 153 yards rushing in the game. J.P. Losman should have earned back his starting job as he threw for 295 yards in the win as his buddy Lee Evans had a huge game as well including an 8 yard touchdown reception on the first series of the game. Losman completed 24 of 34 passes and showed poise throughout the game except for one interception to go along with his one touchdown pass. Evans finished with 9 catches for 165 yards in the best offensive performance of the year by the Bills. The offense did struggle in the red zone as they had to settle for four Rian Lindell field goals in the middle of the game. Game Review.

Parrish Hurt: Roscoe Parrish suffered a thigh contusion in the 2nd quarter and did not return. He tried to come back early in the third quarter but went back into the locker room. John DiGiorgio took a blow to the head and did not return late in the game. Derek Schouman got banged up late in the game as well. Injury Page.

Edwards Inactive: Trent Edwards is officially inactive for the game, he will not dress. The team has made Fred Jackson the emergency third QB now that Anthony Thomas is healthy and active. Ryan Denney is active for the first time this year. Jim Leonhard is also active for the first time in a month. The other inactives are: Leon Joe, Sam Aiken, Copeland Bryan, Matt Murphy, Jason Jefferson, and Ashton Youboty.

Cloudy Skies Today: It will be a normal November day for football in Western New York today although the winds may be a bit tamer than they will likely be later in the month. The game will be played under cloudy skies with a high temperature of 49°. The winds will make it feel a bit colder as they will be out of the west at 10mph.

Entertaining Game Probable: Tomorrow's game against the Bengals is a toss up as the Bills were early week favorites and now the Bengals are favored by a point. Like the four other home games the Bills have played this year expect this one to go down to the wire. The difference may be how entertaining this one is. The Bengals weak defense and tendency to give up big plays coupled with the return of the gun slinger J.P. Losman at quarterback should make this the most explosive offensive game of the year for the Bills. That isn't saying that much since the offense has scored only six touchdowns this year. Look for the offense to put up some big plays but they will need all of them since the Bengals offense is incredibly explosive and they are desperate to get back on track.

Edwards Doubtful: Trent Edwards failed to practice once again today and is listed as doubtful for the game. Dick Jauron said he will take it up until gametime to see whether or not Edwards will be the backup QB, the emergency QB, or just inactive. If he can't go Gibran Hamdan will go from the practice squad two weeks ago to the backup to J.P. Losman.

Leonhard Likely Back; Denney A Question Mark: Jim Leonhard and Ryan Denney both practiced fully today and are listed as questionable for Sunday but it appears more likely that Leonhard will dress and not Denney. Dick Jauron said that Leonhard may give it a go but George Wilson will still start since Leonhard had a month layoff. He does expect Leonhard to see some action at safety. Denney on the other hand they are being very cautious with. He has not played since the preseason and they want to make sure he's fine before activating him. Jauron expects to talk to him and look at film from this week's practices before deciding right before gametime if he should dress or not. Sam Aiken and Ryan Neufeld are both listed as questionable as well despite the fact that they both practiced fully all week including today. Ashton Youboty is also questionable and practiced on a limited basis again today. Injury Page.

Rogers Weighs In: Toronto businessman Ted Rogers finally commented on the Bills to Toronto scenario. While questioning the long term viability of the Bills staying in Buffalo, Rogers confirmed the only agenda right now is getting the two games a year in Toronto. He stressed this isn't the first step in relocating the franchise. Rogers and Maple Leafs owner Larry Tanenbaum lead a group of people who want to bring an NFL franchise to Toronto but at this point the Bills aren't their focus. Rogers owns the Blue Jays and the stadium where the Bills will play a regular season and preseason game.

Edwards Remains Out: As expected Trent Edwards did not practice today and unless he takes part in tomorrow's workout he will be inactive on Sunday. The Bills injury report remained the same today as Ryan Denney, Ashton Youboty, and Jim Leonhard try to get back in the lineup. Denney is close but may be another week away, he will be a game time decision. Leonhard is a bit closer to playing but he likely won't start. Injury Page.

Jauron Leaves QB Carousel Open: Dick Jauron addressed the media in his usual media day press conference and the conversation quickly went to the quarterback situation. Jauron yesterday said J.P. Losman will start at quarterback because of the injury to Trent Edwards. He left the door open for Losman to keep the job with a solid performance. He said long term could be a week or more and it depends on performance and every position is open to competition and re-evaluated every week including quarterback. It appears that Losman has the chance to steal the job back.

Edwards Still Hurting: Trent Edwards said today that his wrist is still pretty swollen but doing a bit better today. He is unable to grip the ball or even shake hands. He hopes to be ready to backup J.P. Losman on Sunday but he won't throw until the end of the week at the earliest. He may not be ready to throw until next week. Gibran Hamdan would backup Losman if Edwards can't. Injury Page.

Losman Sees Opportunity: J.P. Losman spoke to the media about starting on Sunday, he called it a great opportunity for himself and everyone on the team to get to .500. The team is very excited about the opportunity and he sees the opportunity for himself personally. He is focused at the task at hand and ready to go. He is more confident than ever and will play with a chip on his shoulder. He knows the situation changes and a lot can happen the rest of the year, he is just going to play it out and sees what happens. He feels more comfortable and relaxed now. He is prepared to handle any situation that goes his way. He knows he needs to constantly focus on the prize and what he will do to help the team win the game and let all the other stuff take care of itself.

Denney, Leonhard Practice: The Bills appear to be healthier this week as both Jim Leonhard and Ryan Denney practiced fully. George Wilson did remain with the first unit at free safety though. Ashton Youboty was limited and Trent Edwards and Leon Joe did not practice. Injury Page.

Bengals Will Be Tough: The Bills get set to face the underachieving Bengals at Ralph Wilson Stadium this weekend. Just because the Bengals are 2-5 and the Bills are hot with two straight wins doesn't mean this game is a pushover. The Bengals are a very dangerous team on offense and this game may turn into a shootout. Game Preview.

Tuesday October 30, 2007

Losman Gets The Nod: Dick Jauron continued with his habit of announcing on Tuesday who he will start at quarterback for the coming game instead of waiting until Wednesday like he said he would. Jauron announced that J.P. Losman will get the nod against the Bengals because Trent Edwards is still bothered by his sprained wrist and will likely not practice until later in the week if at all. Jauron released a two line statement and will likely elaborate further during his media day press conference tomorrow. It is likely that this is the same scenario as it was before the Ravens game when Edwards was announced as the starter because Losman was still hurt.

QB Controversy Scary: It's Halloween time and there is another QB controversy in Buffalo. Who should they go with at the most important position? Tony Bogyo examines the issue and after reading the article take our poll on our homepage and let us know what you think! Complete Story.
