Bills Shuffle Front Office Personnel

Bills Promote Whaley: The Bills announced today that they have promoted Doug Whaley to Asst. GM/Dir. of Player Personnel. He will now oversee both pro and college personnel departments. He was Asst. GM/Dir. of Pro Personnel. His repsonsibilities include scouting the top college players and leading the meeting room heading up to the draft. He will also assist in advanced scouting pro players. It appears he is adding Tom Modrak's responsibilities to his and he is obviously next in line to be the team's GM.

Whitner Open To Return: Donte Whitner spoke to the Associated Press and said he is open to returning to the Bills. That comment was in response to Buddy Nix saying Whitner doesn't look like he wants to be a Bill. Whitner did say a new deal would be contingent on the team upping their December offer. He also said he wouldn't mind returning to the Bills for one year if he ends up being a restricted free agent after the labor unrest is taken care of. He said he would not be a cancer if he came back for one year. He plans on being the leader he is now.

Hansen To The Wall: Former Bills DE Phil Hansen will be going up on the Wall of Fame this year at a game to be determined later on. Hansen told the Buffalo News he was shocked when he got the call from Ralph Wilson and his wife and even thought it may be a joke at first. He said he wasn't a superstar but was surrounded by such great players. He is the ninth man from the Super Bowls era to go up and 27th overall. He is third on the team's all time sack list.

Modrak Gone: The Bills have announced that they have relieved Tom Modrak of his duties as Vice President of College Scouting. Modrak has been with the team since 2001 and is drafts have not been very good to say the least. The handwriting may have been on the wall when Modrak was not brought out to talk to the media once during the draft. The Bills issues the last decade are a direct correlation to poor drafting. Buddy Nix released this statement, "this is the time of year when we evaluate every element of our football operation and with the Draft now completed, we have decided to reorganize our personnel department. We have begun that process and made a decision to head in a different direction. We thank Tom for his 10 years of dedication to our organization and wish him the best in his future endeavors." Whitner Gone? All signs point to the end of Donte Whitner's Bills career. In a series of tweets Whitner ridiculed the Bills draft and said he is gone and happy. He also got into a few tweet wars with some fans and reporters. That may have sealed his fate as Buddy Nix said on the Edge radio station in Buffalo that "Donte Whitner, I don’t think he wants to be here… and he probably won’t." The Bills drafted Da'Norris Searcy in the fourth round and he can essentially take Whitner's spot on the roster. The thing is Whitner is tendered and his rights would likely revert to the Bills if the lockout continues deep into the offseason.

Bills Go Defense: The Bills went defense and early and often during the draft. They said they needed to replinish a weak defensive unit and they sure did. The only issue is they virtually ignored an offense that wasn't much better last year. They did get bigger, more versatile players that fill very huge needs so that makes this draft a likey success.
