First Day In The Books: The Bills wrapped up their first practice of training camp a half hour early. By all accounts Stevie Johnson looked real good as Ryan Fitzpatrick threw it to him often. The Bills did some play action stuff throwing the ball downfield. Chris Hairston took first team reps at left tackle today while Donald Jones got the first shot at the number two wide receiver job. Eric Wood did not take part in team drills but did practice in individual drills. He is not expected to take part in 11 on 11 drills until next week. Terrence McGee is not 100 percent but he is practicing. Chan Gailey said it was a routine first practice of camp.
No Talks With Byrd, Levitre: Buddy Nix was on WGR radio this morning and said there is nothing going on regarding contract negotiations with Jairus Byrd and Andy Levitre. Both players are free agents after this year. Nix said he has told both players they want them back and they have done a good job keeping their own. He did caution that there will come a time that they will lose good players because they won't have the money. Nix hopes to get talks going sometime later in camp or during the season.
Camp Begins With Position Battles: Training camp gets underway today with a 3pm practice at St. Johns Fisher College. There will be many training camp battles to watch. Chan Gailey said Donald Jones will be the #2 receiver to start camp but not to read too much into it as others will get a shot. He plans on splitting reps fairly evenly among the two candidates for the backup quarterback job as Vince Young and Tyler Thigpen will get reps with the starters and the 2nd team. The right defensive end spot will be a rotation among Shawne Merriman, Chris Kelsay, and Mike Anderson. Kelsay said he's actually looking forward to the rotation as the less reps will allow him to remain fresh.

Conditioning Tests Done: The Bills held their conditioning tests today in preparation for the first practice of training camp tomorrow. Eric Wood, Torell Troup, and Terrence McGee each made it through the tests fine and are ready to go. Chan Gailey said Troup is ahead of the other two. Kyle Williams and Shawne Merriman are good to go as well. Everyone but Mike Caussin took part in the drills. Gailey said the first two weeks of camp will consist of installing the base offense and defense. He said it was invaluable to have the rookies report two weeks early in Orchard Park.
Roster Move Made: The Bills have released DT Lionel Dotson and signed DE Sean Ferguson. He was with the team as a tryout player during the rookie minicamp. He had 49 appearances and 28 starts for Mississippi St. The team also announced officially that they have placed TE Mike Caussin on the active PUP list. That means he can be activated at anytime when healthy.
Conditioning Tests Today: Players are all checked in at St. Johns Fisher College and will undergo conditioning drills and tests today. Training camp opens tomorrow with an afternoon practice. There are no two a days anymore under the new CBA but there will be morning walk throughs on most days.

Players At Camp: The players trickled in to St. Johns Fisher College today to prepare for the start of training camp on Thursday. Buddy Nix addressed the media and said he would like to have a fourth safety and will be on the lookout for one on the waiver wire. He considers Bryan Scott a linebacker fully at this point. He says the team will take it slow with Eric Wood coming back from a torn ACL and Mike Caussin will start out on the PUP list. Torrel Troup should also be good to go. Nix is curious to see how the wide receiver and backup quarterback battles shake out. The GM says it's time for the team to step it up and win some games.
Players To Report: Players are scheduled to report on Tuesday while the media got a tour of the new practice field at St. Johns Fisher College on Monday. There will be conditioning workouts on Wednesday and camp gets into full gear on Thursday with the first official practice open to the public. The new practice field at the facility was needed as the team was forced to practice on two 50 yard grass fields last year as the college was undergoing construction. The new grass field is a nice full length facility. Russ Brandon addressed the media yesterday but would not comment on the lease negotiations.
