Left Guard Battle: Doug Marrone said he's not pleased with how the left guard battle is shaping up between Colin Brown and Doug Legursky and said he may add another player into the competition. Brown has been taking almost all the first team reps but Marrone said nobody is distinguishing himself yet. No word on who he may add into the mix but it likely could be recently signed Antoine Caldwell who has more career starts than the other two. Depth Chart.
Mario Injury Not Serious: Mario Williams and Doug Marrone addressed the media after practice today. Marrone said the injury to the left foot of Williams is not serious but will require rest and treatment. Williams got a second opinion from renowed Dr. James Andrews who said it should be fine with some rest. Williams said it is not serious and he would be out on the field now but they are keeping him out as a precaution. He would not elaborate on how he injured it citing the team's rule not to have the players talk about injuries. Marrone said he will talk to the trainers before addressing the media from now on to get better information out on injuries. Justin Rogers is expected to miss a few days with a hamstring injury suffered yesterday. Kevin Elliott was carted off the field during Wednesday's practice after injuring his arm or shoulder. Mario Dresses: The Bills hit the practice field for their fourth practice of camp today and their second straight 8am practice. Mario Williams was dressed in full pads and was the last player to go on the field. He went straight for the stationary bike and did not practice and left after about a half an hour with a strength and conditioning coach. Justin Rogers was the lone player not dressed for practice today. Joe Buscaglia of WGR tweeted that Leodis McKelvin was taking first team reps at corner. This is the first time in camp that has happened as he was being eased back in after undergoing groin surgery in the offseason. Scott Chandler did less work today than he has done so far in camp. Mario Back On Campus: Mario Williams has returned to St. John Fisher College. He was spotted last night and it was confirmed to AP that he was back. Doug Marrone is expected to updated the media on his condition after today's morning practice. That could be an interesting press briefing after Marrone got into it with well respected AP report John Wawrow yesterday. Marrone got fed up with the constant questions regarding Mario's status. He had no updates for two days. Pro Football Talk was first to report yesterday that Mario got a second opinion on his sore foot. He reportedly was told to rest it for a while but is expected to be fine.

No Mario Again Today: The Bills hit the practice field for the first morning practice of training camp. It is also the first practice in pads and there was hitting but no tackling. The CBA forbids them from being in pads the first two days of camp. Mario Williams was not in attendance once again as he had his sore foot evaluated off campus yesterday. Doug Marrone had no updates on his condition after practice. LB Jamie Blatnick did not participate in team drills as he was working out on the side with the strength and conditioning coaches. No word yet on what his ailment is. Crezdon Butler and Robert Woods had the first scrum of the training camp. Newcomers Antoine Caldwell and Tony Hills saw some time with the 2nd team today while TJ Heath saw some first team reps at corner.

Morning Practice Streak: Doug Marrone said he loves to get up and play football that is why the Bills have six morning practices scheduled in training camp. Today will be the first of four straight practices that begin at 8:10am. There is a day off Thursday mixed in. EJ Manuel said he is not overhwelmed and feels he is way ahead of where he was during the OTAs and minicamp. He also said he's accountable and very comfortable being a leader as a rookie. He doesn't do a lot of talking but wants to go out and produce and make plays.

2nd Practice In The Books: The Bills held an afternoon practice today with Mario Williams not in attendance. He was sent to the doctor to have his sore foot evaluated. Doug Marrone said he will wait to hear what the doctor says before a timetable on his return could be made. The coach thought the quarterbacks did better today as EJ Manuel took the first reps with the first team in 11 on 11 drills today after Kevin Kolb did yesterday. Manuel looked a bit sharper according to most in attendance but Marrone cautioned that he isn't seeing the same complicated schemes that Kolb is seeing from the defense. The coach was pleased with the better accuracy from the QBs today along with increased production. He says Manuel is learning from watching Kolb take reps. Kolb praised the young wide receivers saying they will be an asset for years to come. He said Robert Woods is a stud and Stevie Johnson is a special athlete and he has never played with a guy like him.
QB Decision Deadline? Doug Marrone spoke to the media after practice last night and said he would like to have the quarterback decision settled about 10 days before the season starts. That would mean the starter will be named just before the final preseason game. While EJ Manuel didn't get as many reps as Kevin Kolb during the two and a half hour practice last night, Marrone said the reps will even out. By Mark Gaughan's count for the Buffalo News Kolb got 36 snaps to 28 for Manuel during 11 on 11 drills.
Position Battles: There are other position battles besides quarterback and while day one of training camp doesn't mean a lot Colin Brown got the first crack at left guard over Doug Legursky. Justin Rogers also got first team reps at corner over Leodis McKelvin according to Mark Gaughan of the Buffalo News.
Bills Hit Practice Field: The Bills finally hit the practice field as training camp is now officially underway after a night practice on Sunday. A packed house at St. John Fisher College watched the team practice without pads since they aren't allowed this early in camp. Mario Williams did not practice because of a sore foot. Kyle Williams and Scott Chandler were limited a bit as they work their way back from surgeries last season. Kevin Kolb got more reps with the first team than EJ Manuel did but Doug Marrone said that will even out as they go along.
