Major Snowstorm Plays Havoc With Bills Schedule

Bills Expect To Play At Home Next Week: Jason LaCanfora reported on CBS's pregame show that he spoke to Russ Brandon and the Bills are planning on playing the Browns at Ralph Wilson Stadium next Sunday. The team continues to plan on practicing in the fieldhouse this week. They will have their normal day off Tuesday instead of having Thanksgiving off like originally planned before the storm. The team had a morning light practice and will have a walkthrough this evening so they will get their usual amount of work in albeit in a very odd way.

Shovelers Needed: Now that the travel ban is lifted the Bills are once again looking for shovelers to work as they are doing round the clock shoveling of the snow to get the stadium ready for next Sunday's game against Cleveland. Shovelers will get paid $10 an hour and will get a ticket to one of the remaining two home games based on availability after working a minimum of 8 hours. The team is still planning on heading back to Buffalo after Monday night's game and will make a decision on Tuesday whether or not to practice at the fieldhouse the rest of the week or go back out of town.

Game A Sellout: The Lions started giving out free tickets at 10am today and by Noon they were all gone. They did say a limited number of tickets will be available on Monday night at the box office. Russ Brandon said that he expects it to be a sellout and that all season ticket holders will be given perferred seats between the 20 yard lines.

Jackson Questionable: The Bills have released their official injury report for Monday night's game. Fred Jackson and Ron Brooks are questionable with lingering groin injuries. Dan Carpenter, Manny Lawson, Kyle Orton, Kraig Urbik, Chris Hogan, Marquise Goodwin, Sammy Watkins, and Frank Summers are all probable. Jairus Wynn has been ruled out. Expect all the players on the report, besides Wynn, to play with the possible exception of Brooks who has missed two games. Injury Page.

Afternoon Practice Today: The wacky week continues for the Bills as they have a rare Saturday afternoon practice in Detroit before Monday's "home" game against the Jets. The Bills held a 90 minute practice session last night, their first in 10 days, and will hit the field at 4:45 today. Doug Marrone acknowledged the team is at a disadvantage as they are on the road and not home with their families as well as having a makeshift locker room at the Lions training facility. He praised their hosts as saying the Lions have done things for the Bills that doesn't happen in the league. Monday night's game will be re-aired on NFL Network at midnight on Tuesday. The Bills were not required by the league to give an injury report yesterday. The Jets listed all their banged up players as probable. Free tickets for the game are available on the Lions official website. Injury Page.

Tickets For Game Are Free: The Lions announced today that tickets for Monday night's game will be available free of charge to everyone. Tickets will be general admission and Bills and Lions season ticket holders are getting first crack today before it is opened up to the public tomorrow. The Lions also announced they will host a raffle to benefit the American Red Cross of Western and Central New York Disaster Relief Fund. The Bills are now in Detroit as every player an coach made the trip. The team will practice tonight and tomorrow night and will likely have a walk through on Sunday.

Everyone Onboard: Adam Schefter is reporting that all 53 players and coaches are at the airport and headed to Detroit for Monday's game. There are pictures on twitter of players being picked up by snowmobiles and taken to the stadium where they boarded buses to the airport. Players from less affected areas drove themselves to the airport. Pro Football Talk reports that the league is looking ahead to next week with looking at alternatives in case the game against Cleveland cannot be played at the Ralph. Detroit will be an option once again since the Lions play on Thanksgiving. The league probably won't allow the game to be played in Cleveland because it would give the Browns in extra home game while battling for a playoff spot.

Wrong Number Given For Refunds: Bills fans trying to get information about refunds and credits for Sunday’s game that was moved to Monday night in Detroit are likely running into problems. The Bills apparently mistakenly gave out an incorrect phone number for its ticket office. Information on the Bills Website instructs ticket holders to call 1-877-228-4357. But that’s actually the phone number for a domestic violence crisis center in Ohio, which has been receiving a barrage of calls from Bills fans. The center is asking people to stop calling the number because it needs to keep its lines open for people who need their services. The correct number for the Bills is 1-877-228-4257. The ticket office is expected to reopen Monday.

Bills Looking To Practice Tonight: The Bills are hoping to get the majority of the players out of town this afternoon and the plan is to practice at the Lions training facility outside of Detroit tonight at 7:15pm to prepare for Monday night's game against the Jets at Ford Field. Orchard Park is still under a travel ban but the team is hoping to use snowmobiles to get the players to the stadium. Chris Hogan tweeted he was walking to the stadium. Orchard Park is still under a travel ban but the town supervisor said they are working to get the players to the stadium to board buses for the airport. Russ Brandon told Peter King that he doesn't expect to get all the players on the team charter to Detroit and that some of them may have to come on commercial flights later today or tomorrow. The Bills will also practice Saturday afternoon after the Lions leave for New England and their game with the Patriots. The NFL did announce that they are letting DirecTV broadcast the game to Sunday Ticket customers. CBS affiliates in Binghamton, Albany, Elmira, Watertown, Rochester, Erie, and Syracuse will broadcast the game as well. Check out our updated preview on our gameday homepage. Complete Preview.

Game To Be Played Monday Night In Detroit: The NFL announced that they will not play the game this week at Ralph Wilson Stadium and instead will play the Jets on Monday night at 7pm at Ford Field in Detroit. The team hopes to leave for Detroit tomorrow afternoon so they can practice there over the weekend if they can get everyone out of town which may be a huge undertaking in itself. Kind of ironic that in the year the team honors the life of patriach Ralph Wilson they play in his hometown twice. Maybe Mary Wilson will be one of the few people in attendance. The NFL released a statement, "As mentioned earlier today, public safety resources in Western New York must be fully available to deal with the recovery from the storm. We continue our discussions with the team and the Red Cross on ways the NFL can support the community through this weather disaster. We greatly appreciate the hospitality of the Detroit Lions in hosting the Bills and this game, which will be televised by CBS in the New York and Buffalo area markets. While Ford Field could have hosted the game on Sunday, in order to give the Bills as much practice time as possible under the circumstances, the decision to play on Monday night was made. The Lions’ practice facility will be available to the Bills on Friday and moving the game to Monday night will enable the Bills to practice on Friday and Saturday and have their walk-through on Sunday."

Bills Make Roster Move: The Bills announced they have released RB Phillip Tanner and have claimed TE MarQuies Gray off of waivers from the Vikings. He was originally an undrafted free agent signee of San Francisco in 2013 and had two catches in eight games for the Browns last season. Depth Chart.

Game Officially Moved: The NFL announced that they will not play the game this week at Ralph Wilson Stadium. Russ Brandon held a conference call this evening and said the league will decide and announce the date, time, and location of the game. All signs point to Detroit but Russ Brandon said Toronto likely was considered as well. Most think the game will take place Monday but Brandon said Tuesday is not out of the question. He also said it will take a major effort to get the stadium ready for the Browns game next Sunday but he doesn't feel like the league is exploring other options for that game. He hasn't ruled out the team staying out of town next week to practice and hasn't ruled out the team flying out tomorrow to practice at the game site. He did acknowledge it may not be possible though as a lot of players are still snowed in citing the fact that 85% of the players live in the south towns. Brandon said all fans who bought tickets through the team, ticketmaster, or ticketmaster exchange will get a refund but he doesn't control secondary market tickets. He wants to find a way to bring the fans to the neutral site game and doesn't know if tickets could be honored.

Game Likely To Be Moved: The NFL says they are looking at alternative options for the Bills game against the Jets on Sunday and should have an announcement later today. At this point there are several sources that say the game will be played Monday night and cities being talked about are Detroit, Washington, Pittsburgh, and the Meadowlands. Adam Schefter reports that sources say they will be hard pressed to get Ralph Wilson Stadium ready for next Sunday's game against Cleveland.

Practice Cancelled Again: The Bills were forced to cancel practice for a second straight day as the snow is falling again in Orchard Park and there is still a driving ban. Governor Cuomo remains in the area and said his two cents right now says that it is impractical to play a game on Sunday. Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz says at this point he can't commit any county resources towards gameday activities including the Sheriff's department. The fact the team can't practice and that the snow continues to fall so cleanup can't begin makes it seem nearly impossible to play a game on Sunday.

Tough Week To Prepare: The Bills face huge challenges and obstacles as they try to get ready for this week's game against the Jets whenever and wherever it is played. It is still scheduled for Sunday at 1pm but there is still a chance it gets moved. Without practice and proper meetings the team will be at a competitive disadvantage whenever the game kicks off. Complete Preview.

Wynn Would Have Sat Today: The Bills released a projected injury report if they would have practiced today. Jairus Wynn would have been the lone non participant. Fred Jackson, Ron Brooks, Dan Carpenter, Manny Lawson, Kyle Orton, and Kraig Urbik would have been limited. Chris Hogan, Frank Summers, Marquise Goodwin, and Sammy Watkins would have been full go. There obviously was no updated on the injured players who were not able to come to the facilities for treatment. Injury Page.

Bills Working To Clear Stadium: The Bills are going to try and get the stadium ready in time to play the game at the Ralph on Sunday at 1pm but it will be up to the NFL whether to move the venue or the date of Sunday's game. The league released a statement saying, "We are working with the Bills to determine the status of the stadium. If a change to the schedule needs to be made, the league will make the decision, working closely with the club and local authorities.” The Bills say it usually takes 3 days to clear 1 foot of snow and right now there are four feet on the ground with another 1-2 feet ahead tonight. The Bills are still unable to practice which adds to the issues. Most of the coaching staff including Doug Marrone are at One Bills Drive and are distributing the gameplan to the players electronically. The Bills are trying to hire 500 shovelers and are looking to work around the clock to clear the stadium at $10 an hour and game tickets.

Bills Expected To Play Sunday: The Bills main public relations man Scott Bertchold emailed Howard Simon of WGR and said the team never had so much snow to remove from the stadium and the parking lots. He said they started moving snow out of the parking lots yesterday and that they will have 220,000 tons of snow to remove which would fill the fieldhouse eight times! The Bills are still scheduled to play the Jets at Ralph Wilson Stadium on Sunday.

Polian A Finalist: The 26 modern era semi-finalists for the Class of 2015 induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame has been announced and nobody with ties to the Bills are on the list. Bill Polian is a finalist on the newly created contributor list and can get in if he gets 80% of the votes.

Practice in Jeopardy: The Bills public relations department released a statement last night that a decision on today's practice and media availability will be announced around 10am. One Bills Drive is one of the harder hit areas of the monster lake effect snowstorm. Doug Marrone helped push a stranded nurse as he tried to get to the Stadium yesterday. Jeff Russo of WKBW tweeted he was unable to make it to the stadium but the staff was there working. Several players took to twitter and instagram to post video and pictures from the storm as it was lucky that the storm hit on the players day off. Dan Carpenter helped his 88 year old neighbor by shoveling to his door and clearing his furnace vent. Wednesday is media day where the coaches and players talk to the local media and the media of their opponent.

Monday November 17, 2014

McKelvin On IR: The Bills have announced they have placed Leodis McKelvin on injured reserve. As was reported before the Bills have used his roster spot to sign former Redskins SS Bacarri Rambo. He was a sixth round pick in 2013 and appeared in 13 games with three starts in Washington and had 30 career tackles and a sack. Front Office Page.

Orton Still Under Center: Doug Marrone addressed the media today and re-iterated that Kyle Orton will remain at quarterback. He feels he gives them the best chance to win this week. The coach feels Fred Jackson should be good to go this week. He probably could have played if the Bills played yeterday instead of Thursday. The team is finalizing their decision on Leodis McKelvin, he is expected to be placed on injured reserve. Fox Sports' Mike Garafolo reports the Bills are expected to sign former Redskins safety Bacarri Rambo.

Bills Add CB To Practice Squad: The Bills have announced that they have added CB Brandon Smith to the Practice Squad. He spent time last year on the Bills active roster and the practice squad before being waived/injured in July. He used to be a wide receiver before being converted to a cornerback. He filled the open spot on the squad vacated when Bryan Johnson was promoted to the active roster.

Back To Work:The Bills get back to work at One Bills Drive on Monday as they try to salvage what is left of a season that is sinking badly. At 5-5 the Bills sit in 12th place in the conference as their playoff hopes are all but officially dashed. Doug Marrone spent the weekend working on the red zone woes as the team continues to be mired in last place in red zone touchdown percentage. The players got a couple of days off and now need to re-focus as the Jets come to Orchard Park on Sunday.
