NEWS ARCHIVES - NOV 24TH - NOV 30TH, 2014 PREVIOUS WEEK

Bills Win 2nd Straight To Keep Playoff Hopes Alive

Gameday Grades: The defense dominated the game and kept the Bills in it until the offense got enough going to pull away in the second half. Special teams also played a big part in winning the field position battle as Cleveland's average drive start was their 23 yard line. Gameday Grades.

Bills Blitz: The Bills broke out of a slumber that saw them go scoreless for the first 36:56 before scoring two touchdowns in :10 to jump start them to a 26-10 win over the Cleveland Browns to keep their flickering playoff hopes alive. The Bills struggled all day on third downs but they converted a 4th and 3 bomb from a struggling Kyle Orton to Robert Woods to setup a three yard scoring pass to Chris Hogan. On the next offensive play Terrance West fumbled and Jerry Hughes picked up the loose ball, despite being held on the play, and returned it for a score to give them a 14-3 lead. The Browns dominated the first half but only led 3-0. Orton threw an interception in the end zone and both kickers missed first half field goals. Dan Carpenter did hit four field goals in the second half to keep the Bills in control. Bills Blitz.

Darues Hurt: Marcell Dareus suffered a groin injury late in the first half after a non contact injury. His return was listed as questionable but did see some very limited action in the second half. Injury Page.

Gameday Inactives: Three players were ruled out on Friday due to injury as Chris Gragg, Jairus Wynn, and Baccari Rambo are the injured scratches for this game. The other inactives are Mike Williams, Cyrus Kouandjio, Randell Johnson, and Frank Summers. MarQuies Gray and Marcus Thigpen will both make their Bills debuts in this game with Thigpen likely handling the return duties. CB Justin Gilbert is a late scratch for the Browns with an illness.

Mild Day For Football: The Bills are set to battle the Browns in front of a soldout crowd at Ralph Wilson Stadium. It will be a mild day for the last day of November with the gametime temperature around 50° with a chance of a few showers as the game progresses. The wind may be a factor as it will be out of the southwest at around 17mph.

No Cameron: The Browns were hoping to get dynamic TE Jordan Cameron back from a concussion this week. He was listed as questionable but has now been ruled out after he did not make the trip to Buffalo for the game. That is a nice break for the Bills who figured to struggle with Cameron. Injury Page.

Friday November 28, 2014

Three Ruled Out: The Bills finished preparations for Sunday's home game against the Browns. Three players have been ruled out of the game because of injuries. Chris Gragg, Jairus Wynn, and Baccari Rambo are out after each player did not practice again on Friday. Gragg injured his knee against the Jets, Wynn has been out since suffering a knee injury against Kansas City and Rambo hurt his hamstring late in Wednesday's practice. The only other players on the report for the Bills are Dan Carpenter and Robert Woods both are listed as probable and expected to play. Injury Page.

Practice Squad Move: The Bills have brought back DE Bryan Johnson two days after releasing him from the active roster. They put him back on the practice squad and made room on that unit by releasing CB Brandon Smith. Front Office Page.

Thursday November 27, 2014

Smith Back: Lee Smith was back on the practice field today after sitting out yesterday with an illness. The Bills originally were going to have Thanksgiving off and practice Tuesday but that wasn't possible once the game was moved to Monday night in Detroit. Chris Gragg and Jairus Wynn remain sidleined with knee injuries. Baccari Rambo missed practice today after leaving late during yesterday's practice with a hamstring injury. Injury Page.

Browns Preview: It looks to be another emotionally charged crowd on Sunday as the Bills look for their first win at Ralph Wilson Stadium in their second game their in six weeks. The Browns comes to town with playoff aspirations as the Bills look to hold on to their slim postseason hopes. Complete Preview.

Wednesday November 26, 2014

Bills Add Returner: With C.J. Spiller and Leodis McKelvin out the Bills needed help in the return game and think they found out by claiming WR Marcus Thigpen off of waivers from Tampa Bay. To make room they released DE Bryan Johnson. The move may serve notice to Marquise Goodwin who was a healthy scratch for the first time in his career against the Jets because of the gameplan. Fred Jackson has been returning punts but it isn't ideal to have the oldest running back in the game returning punts. Thigpen was a solid kick and punt returner for Miami in 2012 and 2013. He has little experience at receiver and running back. Depth Chart.

Whitner War: Donte Whitner will definitely be public enemy #1 when the Bills and Browns battle it out at Ralph Wilson Stadium on Sunday. The game is officially soldout and Jim Kelly will be leading the charge for the game that just got more spice when the Bills responded to twitter comments made by Whitner over the summer. The former Bill joked about the team moving and told Sammy Watkins to be quiet when he said he's looking forward to playing the Browns. Aaron Williams defended the rookie before Whitner got into a heated twitter war with Darryl Talley. Fred Jackson, C.J. Spiller, Boobie Dixon, and Williams all made comments about Whitner today with Jackson being the most candid saying he can't respect the man for saying idiot comments.

Woods Limited: Coming off his spectacular game against the Jets it was a bit alarming to see Robert Woods limited in practice with an ankle injury. Doug Marrone fully expects him to play on Sunday. He did come up a bit lame after one of his catches. Dan Carpenter was also limited with a groin injury which landed him on the report last week as well. Jairus Wynn, Lee Smith, and Chris Gragg sat out practice. Gragg suffered a knee injury on Mondahy night, Wynn has been sidelined almost a month with his knee injury and Smith was out with an illness. Baccari Rambo was added to the report as limited with a hamstring issue. Injury Page.

Dixon Honored: Boobie Dixon was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week thanks to his blocked punt that was recovered in the end zone for a touchdown by Manny Lawson. Dixon becomes the third Bill to win the award this year, C.J. Spiller and Dan Carpenter have also won the weekly award.

Time To Give Thanks: It has been a crazy week for the Bills, their fans, and most of all the people of the south towns around Buffalo. Tony Bogyo's latest article breaks down the wacky week that culminated with the biggest blowout win for the team in 22 years. Complete Story.

Tuesday November 25, 2014

The Ralph Is Ready: The Bills held a press conference on Tuesday and announced that Ralph Wilson Stadium is ready for Sunday's game against Cleveland. They will have all official stadium parking lots ready to go as well. The Ralph did suffer some minor damage including some burst pipes but it would have been much worse before the renovations. There was no structural damage ot the facility or the fieldhouse where practice will take place this week beginning tomorrow.

Gameday Grades: The Bills were suppose to be at a total disadvantage going into this game after the trials of the week where the Bills were stuck in the houses while the Jets practiced and prepared for this game. What ended up happening was a dominating effort by Buffalo as they won a game for the frazzled fan base of Western New York. Gameday Grades.

Monday November 24, 2014

Bills Blitz: The Bills took all the emotion of a very unusual week and took it all out on the New York Jets as the Bills won a "home" game in Detroit against the Jets 38-3. Kyle Orton completed 24 of 32 passes for 230 yards including touchdown passes to Robert Woods and Scott Chandler. Woods made four fantastic catches including a David Tyrell type catch and a great acrobatic catch for his touchdown. Boobie Dixon blocked his second punt of the season that was recovered by Manny Lawson for a touchdown. A Duke Williams interception setup a Fred Jackson touchdown run in the rout. The Bills defense had seven sacks including two each by Mario Williams and Jerry Hughes. Bills Blitz.

Injury Update: Chris Gragg suffered a knee injury late in the win over the Jets and did not return. The Bills didn't seem to suffer any other injuries. Injury Page.

Gameday Inactives: Fred Jackson is playing after being listed as questionable with a groin injury. Ron Brooks will also play, he was also listd as questionable with a groin injury that caused him the last two games. Jairus Wynn is inactive after being ruled out, he did not make the trip to Detroit. Marquise Goodwin and Frank Summers were listed as probable but are inactive. The other six probable players are playing. The other inactives are Bryan Johnson, Cyrus Kouandjio, Randell Johnson, and MarQuies Gray. Mike Williams is in the lineup for Goodwin.

Browns Game To Be At The Ralph: Adam Schefter reports that a Bills source says Sunday's game against Cleveland will indeed take place at Ralph Wilson Stadium. The Bills have tweeted they no longer need shovelers as they are in good shape getting the field ready for six days from now. They got help from Mother Nature as temperatures soared today melting the snow and not causing widespread flooding that was feared. Tonight the team is indoors at Ford Field in Detroit. They are traveling back to Buffalo after the game and are expected to practice in the fieldhouse Wednesday thru Saturday.
