Bills Escape Music City With A Win

Gameday Grades: The defense kept the Bills in their 14-13 victory over the Titans until the offense finally got things going. It all resulted in an ugly one point win but it is a win nonetheless and all Bills fans will take that. Gameday Grades.

Bills Win 14-13: Tyrod Taylor ran for a score and threw the winning touchdown pass to Chris Hogan from 2 yards out with 5:25 to play to complete the rally that gave the Bills a 14-13 win over the Titans. The old penalty bugaboo hit again on the opening kickoff as an offsides penalty on Marcus Easley negated a fumble recovery at the Titans 2. It seemed to put the Bills in a funk that last into the third quarter as the Bills managed just 51 total yards in the first half as they were thoroughly dominated in the opening 30 minutes but trailed only 3-0 at halftime as the defense kept them in the game. Denarius Moore fumbled a punt return that Antonio Andrews turned into a one yard touchdown run to give the Titans a 10-0 lead that looked bigger than that because of how the offense was playing. The Bills then turned Taylor lose who had a 26 yard run followed by his 22 yard touchdown run to get the Bills within 3. In the fourth quarter with the Bills trailing 13-7, Taylor hit a bomb to Hogan, caught a pass from Hogan, before hitting him in the end zone for the winning score. Stephon Gilmore clinched it with an interception of Marcus Mariota when he rushed a deep throw while Marcell Dareus was bearing down on him. Bills Blitz.

Injury Update: Aaron Williams left the game in the first quarter after re-aggravating his neck injury. He did return two series later despite having his return listed as questionable. Cierre Wood injured his right ankle in the second quarter and did not return after being carted off. Randell Johnson left with a wrist injury. Injury Page.

Watkins Among Inactives: Sammy Watkins is inactive for the game today. He worked out before the game on the field but was already reported out. Three of the seven inactives are players that were ruled out on Friday. Bacarri Rambo, LeSean McCoy, and Karlos Williams were already listed as out. The healthy scratches are Tony Steward, Alex Carrington, and Gabe Ikard. G Chance Warmack is inactive for the Titans meaning former Bill Jamon Meredith will get his second straight start.

Gameday Weather: It will be a beautiful day for football in Music City as the game will be played under sunny skies with a gametime temperature of 72° rising into the mid 70s throughout the game with no chance of rain. There will also be no wind to speak of.

McCoy, Karlos Williams, Rambo Out: As expected LeSean McCoy, Karlos Williams, and Bacarri Rambo have been ruled out for Sunday's game in Tennessee as none of them practiced at all this week. McCoy told reporters today he suffered a grade 2 sprain of the hamstring that he made worse by playing on it against Miami. He said he was told he would be out 3-4 weeks after that game but says he's a quick healer and hopes to be back before that. He has been out two weeks already and hasn't done anything. Sammy Watkins is listed as questionable, he took 3-4 reps today which is 10% of the reps he normally would take on a Friday. He is a gametime decision and the doctors will make the call after he works out before the game. All the other banged up players are listed as probable including Aaron Williams, John Miller, and Marquise Goodwin. Williams and Miller are expected to start. Goodwin is expected to make the trip and hopes to make his season debut. The coach also said he plans on having both kickers active unless there is something unexpected on the injury front. IK Enemkpali is not going to be activated in time for the game. The team has a roster exemption for him until Monday. Injury Page.

Carpenter To Kick FGs: On Wednesday Rex Ryan was coy on what he planned to do with new kicker Billy Cundiff but on Thursday he was more decisive. He told the team's website that Dan Carpenter will kick field goals and Cundiff will be the kickoff specialist. There was speculation that the Bills may be having an open competition this week in practice and would release one of the kickers to open up a roster spot for IK Enemkpali who is eligible to be activated from the suspended list. The team has a roster exemption for him and don't have to activate him until Monday.

Watkins Getting Close: Rex Ryan said that Sammy Watkins is getting close to returning to action but his status for this week is up in the air. He is being listed as did not practice but media members in attendance said he took part in individiual drills. The coach said it would be a reach for Karlos Williams to play as he missed practice again today and is still in the concussion protocoal of the league. LeSean McCoy remains sidelined he was in the weight room during practice. So it seems almost certain that Boobie Dixon will get the start. Greg Roman said it is likely that Boom Herron will be in the gameplan. John Miller continues to work back from his groin injury as he split reps with Kraig Urbik today. Injury Page.

One Buffalo Day: Rex Ryan changed before his press conference after practice today into a Sabres hat and jersey and said it is a big night for Buffalo and he will be there to root on the Sabres. One year ago today the Pegulas closed on the sale of the Bills and today the Sabres open up the Jack Eichel era at home. It has been even named One Buffalo Day.

Titans Game Preview: The Bills look to get back on track as their roller coaster season continues down in Music City. Nashville hasn't been too kind to the Bills over the years and the Bills have struggled in general with Tennessee losing five games in a row to the Titans. The Bills need a win to get back to being above .500 as they look to ramp up their pass rush against a rookie quarterback. Complete Preview.

Wednesday October 7, 2015

Aaron Williams Expected Back: Rex Ryan said that he expects Aaron Williams to be back in the lineup when the Bills face the Titans on Sunday. This is a good thing especially with Bacarri Rambo sidelined with a quad injury. Karlos Williams, Sammy Watkins, and LeSean McCoy did not practice today but none of the three have been ruled out for Sunday's game at this time. Watkins is expected to test his calf in practice on Thursday. Boobie Dixon will be the main running back on Sunday if Williams and McCoy can't go according to the coach. John Miller was limited in practice today and is getting closer to returning from his groin injury. Percy Harvin got his usual Wednesday rest day and Kyle Williams also sat out today with a calf issue. Injury Page.

More Roster Moves: The Bills continue to tinker with the roster as they have announced the signing of K Billy Cundiff and WR Denarius Moore. They have released two specialists, kickoff guru Jordan Gay and returner Marcus Thigpen. Cundiff is also an accomplished field goal kicker so his signing could be a message to inconsistent Dan Carpenter. Cundiff was with the Jets in training camp in 2013 before joining the Ravens for the 2013 and most of the 2014 season. His career field goal percentage is 8 points lower than Carpenter's. Moore was a fifth round pick in 2011 and spent three seasons with the Raiders where he had 130 receptions for 2,054 yards and 17 touchdowns. He is also an accomplished returner. Depth Chart.

AFC East Quarterly Report: It's hard to believe the season is a quarter over already. Our latest edition of the AFC East roundtable gives out quarterly awards for the division. The AFC East has its share of storylines through the first quarter of the season. The New England Patriots are at the top of the division once again at 3-0. The New York Jets have gotten off to a surprising 3-1 start. The Buffalo Bills have been inconsistent at 2-2 and the Miami Dolphins have already fired head coach Joe Philbin after getting off to a 1-3 start. Our friends from New York Jet Fuel, PatsFans.com, and Phin Maniacs gives their thoughts on where each team finishes. Complete Story.

Roster Moves: The Bills have signed Dan Herron to bolster their injured running backs corps. To make room they have placed TE MarQueis Gray on injured reserve ending his season with the broken forearm suffered against the Giants. The team also filled their open spot on the practice squad by adding WR Walter Powell. Rex Ryan is familiar with Powell who was released from the Jets practice squad this week. Herron has spent the past two years with the Colts and has three career starts. He was placed on IR after getting injured in the preseason and then released. He has 87 career carries for 389 yards and a touchdown. He also has 22 career catches for 230 yards. He was a 6th round pick of the Bengals in the 2012 draft. Front Office Page.

Karlos Williams Has A Concussion: Doug Whaley said on WGR today that Karlos Williams suffered a concussion against the Giants and his status for this week's game against the Titans is uncertain. Combine that with the injury to LeSean McCoy and the Bills are dangerously thin at a position of strength going into training camp. Whaley admitted they may add a running back and Bryce Brown would be a consideration. The team is working out running backs today. The biggest name of note is former first round pick Trent Richardson. Whaley also said the injury to Sammy Watkins doesn't appear to be serious but you never know with soft tissue injuries. Injury Page.

Bad Loss To Giants: Our columnist Tony Bogyo is trying to figure out if this team is a playoff caliber team or the team that got beat by the Giants on Sunday. Somehow Tony remains optimistic finding some positives in the bad loss to New York. Complete Story.

Monday October 5, 2015

Ryan Takes Responsibility: Rex Ryan sang a different tune today when talking to reporters. He took accountability for the penalties saying the 13 personal fouls this year is on him. He knows he has to get the penalties under control and it keeps him up at night. He said he's talked to the coaches on his staff and other staffs along with talking to the league to try and fix the problems. He said he has ideas but will talk to the players about it. He also said Jerry Hughes can't act like a vigilante out there.

Gray Has Broken Arm: Rex Ryan said during today's press conference that Marquies Gray suffered a broken forearm against the Giants. There is no word yet on how long he'll be out. Bacarri Rambo was the only other new injury of note as he suffered a quad injury. No word on how long he'll be sidelined. There is no update yet on LeSean McCoy's and Sammy Watkins as the players were off today. We may know more tomorrow when they return to practice. Injury Page.
