Bills Win Season Opener In Impresive Fashion
Gameday Grades: The Bills put together a solid defensive effort with some help from the 12th man and the offense showed a lot of promise under Tyrod Taylor as the Bills won their season opener. The special teams got into the game with a flawless effort on all levels of that unit. Gameday Grades.
Bills Win Opener 27-14: Tyrod Taylor waited four years to start in NFL game and will have to wait one more week to technically start one. Matt Cassel got the start on a gadget play that went for a loss on the first play of the game with Taylor lined up in the slot. Not much else went wrong for the Bills as Taylor took over and went 14 of 19 for 195 yards including a 51 yard touchdown pass to Percy Harvin to lead the Bills to a 27-14 win over the Colts giving Taylor and Rex Ryan victories in their Bills debut. Ryan became the first Bills coach to win his debut on opening day. Rookie Karlos Williams scored on his first NFL carry, a beautiful 26 yard run where he broke a tackle in the backfield just before halftime to give the Bills a 17-0 halftime lead. Boobie Dixon scored from one yard out on the opening possession of the third quarter to extend the lead to 24-0. Dan Carpenter hit both his field goal attempts and the Bills held Andrew Luck in check besides two second half scoring drives. Ronald Darby and Aaron Williams each picked off Luck once. Bills Blitz.
Injury Update: Corey Graham took a knee to the head on the first play from scrimmage and was taken to the locker room. He was evaluated for a concussion and did not return. He was replaced by Bacarri Rambo who went out the next series for a break. He was shaken up but did return. Another defensive back he got hurt was Ronald Darby who limped off with a left leg injury in the 2nd quarter but returned in the second half for a bit but then left the game again with cramps. Injury Page.
Inactives: The Bills had two inactives because of injury as Marquise Goodwin and Tony Steward were ruled out early in the week. The five healthy inactives are: Bryce Brown, Gabe Ikard, Chris Gragg, Andre Fluellen, and EJ Manuel. Brown being inactive means they are ok with the health of LeSean McCoy, Karlos Williams, and Boobie Dixon. Manuel being inactive was expected as the third QB.
Gameday Weather: The weather for today's season opener will not be perfect as showers are possible throughout the game and it will be unseasonably cool for mid September with a gametime temperature of around 60°. Winds will be out of the West at about 14mph.

RV Lot Soldout: The Bills announced that the RV lot is already soldout more than 24 hours before kickoff. It is only the second time that has happened. It also soldout on Saturday before last year's opening day game against Miami. There will be some activity at One Bills Drive today as they will unveil the statue of Ralph Wilson Stadium in a private ceremony for the media.
Fluellen Back: One day after being released the Bills brought back DT Andre Fluellen as expected. He was released momentarily to allow activating IK Enemkpali who will now be put on the suspended list and start serving his four game suspension for punching Geno Smith in the jaw when he was with the Jets. The active roster is now back at 53 men but someone will have be moved off of it on Monday when Marcell Dareus is activated. Front Office Page.

IK Activated: The Bills have made a few roster moves today. They have activated IK Enemkpali from the practice squad and re-added DE Cedric Reed to that unit. To make room for Enemkpali they released Andre Fluellen. There were reports they activated him to keep other teams for nabbing him and stashing him while he is suspended. He is expected to be suspended four games by the league which will allow the Bills to fill the roster spot again or just use it when activating Marcell Dareus on Monday from his suspension. The team also reached an injury settlement with IR player Deonte Thompson meaning he will be free to sign with any other team but the Bills. Front Office Page.
Goodwin, Steward Out: The Bills announced today that Marquise Goodwin and Tony Steward have been ruled out for the game Sunday after they both did not practice all week. It's not a surprise as Goodwin is expected to miss another couple of weeks with his broken ribs and Steward hopes to play next week. He has been sidelined with a sprained MCL. Seven players are listed as probable including LeSean McCoy, Chris Hogan, Sammy Watkins, Percy Harvin, Robert Woods, Charles Clay, and Mario Williams. Harvin missed practice on Wednesday but practiced fully the past two days. The other six practiced fully all week. RB Vick Ballard and CB Greg Toller have been ruled out for Indianapolis. Final Injury Report.

Harvin Returns: Percy Harvin returned to practice today after getting a rest day yesterday. He is on the injury report with a hip issue that kept him sidelined most of training camp. He said he's in good shape, has the timing down, and is ready to go for the start of the season. For Indianapolis, RB Vick Ballard and CB Greg Toller remain sidelined and will likely miss the game Sunday. Injury Page.
Dareus Gets Extension: Marcell Dareus just got paid. He signed a six year contract extension worth $100 Million with $60 Million guaranteed giving him the highest amount of guaranteed money by any non-QB in the league (Suh got $59.96 Million of guaranteed money). Including this year's salary the deal is worth $108 Million over seven seasons. The Bills now have two $100 Million men on the DL and a $50 Million man in Jerry Hughes.
Bills Make Practice Squad Move: The Bills made another move on the practice squad by releasing DE Cedric Reed and re-signing TE Nick O'Leary. The team was very high on O'Leary when they drafted him in the sixth round this year and were afraid to expose him to waivers but needed to do so when they brought Matt Cassel back. He cleared waivers and was quickly brought back. He was the fifth tight end on the active roster before his release on Tuesday.

Harvin Has Rest Day: The Bills say Percy Harvin did not practice because it was a rest day but he's on the injury report with a hip designation. This is not too much of a surprise since the hip has kept him sidelined most of camp. It is a situation to watch closely early in the season. Marquise Goodwin also sat with his broken ribs and he's not expected to be ready for the opener. Tony Steward is the third person who did not practice because of his sprained MCL. He is questionable at best for Sunday. Sammy Watkins, Robert Woods, Chris Hogan, LeSean McCoy, Charles Clay, and Mario Williams all practiced fully and will play on Sunday. McCoy admitted he's not 100% but he is ready to compete. Injury Report.
McCoy Expected To Play: LeSean McCoy is expected to play on Sunday Rex Ryan said in his media day press conference with the Bills beat reporters. He said McCoy practiced fully today and quipped his pitch count is 100. Ryan also said that everyone except Marquise Goodwin should be ready which seemed unlikely with the rash of injuries at the skill positions during training camp. Goodwin and Percy Harvin both sat out practice today. Ryan spent the first few minutes of his press conference imploring the fans to make things difficult on the best fantasy QB in the league in Andrew Luck. He knows they have to pressure Luck and they will even though the Colts know that is what they will do. The coach took a shot at the Colts defense saying it obviously isn't the strength of the team.
Practice Squad Move: The Bills swapped players on the practice squad by releasing QB Alex Tanney and signing CB Merrill Noel. Tanney was no longer needed after the re-signing of Matt Cassel as the number two QB. EJ Manuel can now run the scout team in practice as the number three guy. Noel was with the Bills all summer and played well against Detroit last week.
Media Day: We are in regular season mode now around the NFL and that makes today media day as each team's coach meets with the media from their opponents city along with one key player. The initial injury report will also be released and we will put in on our injury page when that comes out later today.

Bills Bring Back Cassel: The Bills have brought back QB Matt Cassel and released TE Nick O'Leary. That leaves a more manageable four tight ends on the depth chart. Cassel was cut in a salary cap move last week as he would have counted as $4.7 Million against the cap and will likely cost under $1 Million. Rex Ryan confirmed Cassel is number two on the depth chart behind Tyrod Taylor. Front Office Page.

Bills Finish Off Practice Squad, Roster: The team finished their 10 man practice squad by announcing five signings today. QB Alex Tanney, DE Cedric Reed, OT Chris Martin, and LB IK Enemkpali. The teamm also official announced the signing of Jaylen Watkins that was reported yesterday. They also filled their one roster spot by re-signing DT Andre Fluellen to the active roster. Enemkpali from Vick's broken jaw fame, said he had offers elsewhere but wanted to be in Buffalo. He was solid in the preseason with the team. Tanney announced on his twitter feed that he was signing with Buffalo. He has some fame from making crazy youtube videos of him making trick passes was a tryout player for the Bills in 2012. He spent time with five other teams and had a strong preseason with Tennessee. Fluellen fills a temporary hole because of the one game suspension of Marcell Dareus. Front Office Page.
