Bills Win Third Straight With West Coast Victory

Sunday October 9, 2016

Gameday Grades: Two big plays by the defense and a big special teams stop of a fake punt was the difference as the Bills pulled out the win despite a sputtering passing game. The grades will be mostly good after their third win in a row. Gameday Grades.

Bills Blitz: Nickell Robey-Coleman returned an interception 41 yards for a touchdown and the Bills snuffed out a fake punt to give them a 30-19 victory in Los Angeles. It is the first time since 2011 that the team has won three games in a row. LeSean McCoy had a fantastic day running for 150 yards on just 18 carries, the most he has had as a Bill. He went over 100 yards in the first half alone. The Bills clinched the game after the fake punt late in the game when Tyrod Taylor, who struggled most of the day, hit Marquise Goodwin for a 6 yard touchdown on third and goal to wrap it up. Early in the game McCoy had a 53 yard run that setup a Mike Gillislee touchdown. Taylor also hit Justin Hunter for a touchdown when he kept the play alive with his feet and found him in the back of the end zone. Bills Blitz.

Injury Update: Colt Anderson injured his arm and did not return to the game. Several other players got banged up but did return to the game. Aaron Williams was shaken up in the fourth quarter. He had his shoulder looked at and came back in the game. Mike Gillislee was shaken up on a punt play but returned. Tyrod Taylor seemed to hurt his wrist on his throwing arm when there was a scrum for a batted pass. He was briefly looked at by trainers and then was left on his own and seemed to get through the rest of the game fine. John Miller was limping a bit on his ankle but it didn't cost him any time on the field. Injury Page.

Gameday Inactives: Marcell Dareus led the list of inactives for the Bills. He did not suit up after injuring his hamstring in practice on Friday. The other injured inactives that were ruled out on Friday were Patrick Lewis, Cyrus Kouandjio, and Corey White. Greg Salas is not on the list after being placed on IR on Friday to make room on the roster for Dareus. The healthy scratches are Cardale Jones, Gabe Ikard, and Jonathan Williams. That means Justin Hunter will be active for the first time and Reggie Bush is also active. Three starting defensive linemen are inactive for the Rams.

McCoy In; Dareus Out? Adam Schefter is reporting that LeSean McCoy will play today despite jamming his hand in practice on Friday. Schefter also reports that Marcell Dareus will not make his season debut today after suffering a hamstring injury in practice on Friday. Everyone was hopeful he would still play after making the trip to LA and being activated from the suspension list.

Gameday Weather: It is a typical Southern California day for today's game between the Bills and the Rams. The game will be played under sunny skies with a high of 87° with the wind coming out of the WNW at 5mph.

Friday October 7, 2016

Dareus Activated: Despite tweaking his hamstring today in practice, the Bills have activated Marcell Dareus to the 53 man roster. To make room they placed Greg Salas on IR. He has been battling a groin injury. At this point they have not activated Seantrel Henderson, they have until Monday to do so if they don't plan on playing him on Sunday. Dareus was walking around ok in the locker room after practice. LeSean McCoy hurt his hand in practice but told ESPN he's fine and will be playing on Sunday. Front Office Page.

Dareus, McCoy Hurt In Practice: Marcell Dareus injured his hamstring and LeSean McCoy hurt his hand during practice today and both are now questionable for Sunday's game against the Rams. Rex Ryan said on Dareus they will have to see how the injury responds to treatment. Greg Salas, Patrick Lewis, Cyrus Kouandjio, and Corey White have all been ruled out. Stephon Gilmore, Cordy Glenn, Jerome Felton, Charles Clay, and Jonathan Meeks are all listed as questionable as well. Injury Page.

Karlos Meeting Didn't Happen: The fiance of Karlos Williams tweeted that the Bills and Karlos never met as the Bills postponed the workout. She also said that it was just a workout that was scheduled and no signing was imminent. The running back is waiting for the Bills to reschedule it.

DBs Fined: Robert Blanton, Aaron Williams, and Nickell Robey-Coleman were fined for their part in the pregame altercation in New England. The players took exception to Malcolm Walker and Jacoby Brissett going thru their drills twice before the game. Blanton was fined $21,000 and Robey-Coleman was fined $10,000. Williams declined to tell AP how much he was fined but said it was up there. It is unknown what fines, if any, were levied on members of the Patriots. The NFL releases those details on Fridays.

Gilmore On The Field: Stephon Gilmore was back on the field in practice today after leaving early yesterday with an ankle injury. Charles Clay also returned after sitting out yesterday which is become commonplace. Cordy Glenn also practiced after sitting out Wednesday to rest his sore ankle. Greg Salas, Patrick Lewis, Cyrus Kouandjio, and Corey White sat for a second straight day.

The Return Of Karlos? Adam Schefter is reporting that the Bills are working out Karlos Williams today and are expected to re-sign the running back. It is unknown if he will be signed to the practice squad or the regular roster. If he is put on the 53 man roster it likely means the end of Reggie Bush in Buffalo. Williams has finished serving his four game suspension while a free agent since the Bills released him.

Game Preview: The Bills head to Los Angeles for their first game in America's second largest city since a 1992 game against the Raiders. The last time they played the Rams in LA was in 1983. The Bills are coming off back to back wins and are looking for three straight wins for the first time since 2011. That year was also the last time that a Rex Ryan coached team won three straight games. The Rams are a surprising 3-1 and have won three straight games. The Bills haven't won a game on the West Coast since 2004. Complete Preview.

Wednesday October 5, 2016

Gilmore Banged Up: Stephon Gilmore was limited in practice today with an ankle injury. It seems like it was suffered in practice today as Joe Buscaglia of WKBW tweeted he saw him getting it looked at as everyone was leaving today. Jonathan Meeks was also limited with his ongoing foot injury. Jerome Felton was limited with a back issue. Charles Clay had his normal rest day for his knee. Greg Salas remains sidelined with his groin injury. Corey White was sidelined with what is listed as a shoulder injury. He was in concussion protocol after the Patriots game. Patrick Lewis also remains sidelined with his knee injury. As we reported earlier Cyrus Kouandjio and Cordy Glenn also sat with their ankle issues. Injury Page.

Tackles Hurting: Rex Ryan said Cordy Glenn got through the game against New England ok but he's sore right now so he won't practice today. Cyrus Kouandjio is coming back and rehabbing from his ankle injury. He is still not ready to practice but is making strides quickly according to the coach. Seantrel Henderson will practice but it is unknown if he'll be ready to play this week. Michael Ola will take a majority of the snaps at left tackle and Ryan thought he would have to play last week before Glenn said he was ready to go. The coach would not elaborate on Marcell Dareus returning from his suspension saying it would be prudent to ask Dareus about that. He said his job is to get him ready to play this week and they need him.

Brown Honored: As expected Zach Brown was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his 18 tackle, one sack, two forced fumbles performance against the Patriots. He was all over the field and dominated the game. That sets up a battle of both defensive player of the week winners as the Rams Aaron Donald one the NFL honor. Brown is the first Bill to win the award since Baccari Rambo won it week 10 last year.

Bills Add To Practice Squad: The Bills filled their open spot on the practice squad by adding TE Manasseh Garner. He fills the open spot vacated by the promotion of Gerald Christian. He had spent time on the Bills practice squad late last season. He entered the league as an undrafted free agent last year in Kansas City. Front Office Page.

Bills Re-Up With Fisher: The Bills have announced a new five year extension to keep their training camp at St. Johns Fisher College. Fisher grad Russ Brandon said in a statement, “the training camp partnership between the Buffalo Bills and St. John Fisher College has been extremely beneficial for both parties. Our training camp model is among the best in the entire National Football League and we’re excited to continue our relationship with St. John Fisher College and the Rochester community for years to come.” The team has held camp at the school since 2000.

Dray Released: The Bills have released TE Jim Dray a result of the development of Nick O'Leary. The team promoted TE Gerald Christian to take his place. The team swapped wide receivers on their practice squad adding Corey Washington and releasin Matt Hazel. Washington was an undrafted free agent originally signed by the Cardinals in 2014. Christian was a 7th round pick of the Cardinals in 2014. Depth Chart.

Flying High With The Bills: Tony Bogyo is back with his latest column and his unusual experiencing watching the Bills this week on a cross country flight from the West Coast and landing in Boston after the Bills knocked off the Patriots. He had to temper his enthusiasm while being well above the earth but he couldn't help but revel in a rare Bills win over the Patriots with or without Tom Brady. Complete Story.

Monday October 3, 2016

Dareus To Play: Rex Ryan told the media that he doesn't plan on making any roster moves on the two returning suspended players until later in the week. He did say that he expects Marcell Dareus to play on Sunday. How much depends on how much he can go after the long layoff. The coach was less sure about the availability of Seantrel Henderson who has been battling Chron's disease. The coach also said he expects to activate Shaq Lawson when he is eligible to come off the PUP list that means he expects to have him in the lineup on week 7 in some capacity. He cautioned that Lawson has yet to have an NFL practice so he will need to come along slowly. The coach doesn't sound like he's given up on Reggie Bush saying he has a role on the team he just needs to be patient. He said it's possible you will see Justin Hunter on the field this Sunday. The team will travel to LA on Saturday instead of Friday like Rex has done in the past on West Coast trips.

Dareus, Henderson Back: The players are off enjoying a victory Monday but two players are now back with the team as the suspensions have ended for Marcell Dareus and Seantrel Henderson. The team will have to make roster moves but not right away as they can ask for one week roster exemptions and if they will play this Sunday, as Dareus almost certainly will, then they will have to release a player by Saturday. The prime candidates for being released are Reggie Bush, Gabe Ikard, and newly signed Michael Ola depending on the injury situation along the offensive line.
