Bills In Familiar Position... Losing To Pats

Sunday October 30, 2016

Gameday Grades: Another blowout by the hands of the New England Patriots. Offense, Defense, and the Special Teams all took turns in messing up int his game. Gameday Grades.

Bills Blitz: Tom Brady threw four touchdown passes and threw for 315 yards to lead the Patriots to a 41-25 rout of the Bills at New Era Field. It was the same story we have seen for years as Brady just picked apart the Bills throwing 53 yard touchdown passes to Chris Hogan and Rob Gronkowski. Danny Amendola and Julian Edelman also caught touchdown passes. LeGarrette Blount also scored a touchdown for New England as they put up the most points of the season against the Bills defense. Tyrod Taylor, Jonathan Williams, and Mike Gillislee each had touchdown runs for the Bills. Dan Carpenter hit his 100th career field goal as a Bill but also missed one. Bills Blitz.

Injury Update: Lorenzo Alexander left the game with a hamstring injury in the first half and did not return. Charles Clay came out of the game after landing hard on his right shoulder trying to come down with a bomb. He did return. Brandon Tate was taken to the locker room to be evaluated for a concussion after a hard hit after a third down reception. He did not return. Walter Powell was shaken up in the first half but returned to the game. Reggie Bush suffered a groin injury late in the game. Mike Gillislee finished out the game but did seem bothered by the foot injury he had this week from an issue with his cleats. Robert Woods was used sparingly early in the game as his foot is still bothering him. He was forced to play more in the second half because of injuries. Injury Page.

Gameday Inactives: As expected LeSean McCoy is inactive for today's game. He was listed as doubtful after not practicing all week. Aaron Williams and Marquise Goodwin were ruled out on Friday. Robert Woods and Marcell Dareus lead the list of the questionable players who are active. The healthy scratches are Partick Lewis, Seantrel Henderson, Jerel Worthy, and Cardale Jones. Worthy is inactive because Dareus is back.

Gameday Weather: A rainy morning could give way to just cloudy skies as the game progresses. At kickoff the temperature will be around 48° and raining. The winds will be light out of the North Northwest at 6mph.

Roberson Activated: The Bills have activated Marcus Roberson from the practice squad to fill the open spot on the 53 man roster. That means they have two open spots on the practice squad. They will likely re-add Manasseh Garner to the list on Monday. This move means they are likely confident in Robert Woods being ready to play tomorrow if not they would have just three healthy receivers unless you included Reggie Bush with the receiver group. Depth Chart.

Roster Moves: The Bills continue their flip flopping at the third string tight end position. They have released Manasseh Garner and activated Gerald Christian from the practice squad. They also released WR Ed Eagan which makes me think they feel Robert Woods will be able to play. The team now has an open roster spot they are required to fill by 4pm tomorrow. That is because of an NFL rule that states players with league experience like Michael Ola and Marcus Roberson can't remain on the practice squad if there is an open roster spot. Front Office Page.

McCoy Sits Again: LeSean McCoy did not practice for a third straight game increasing the likelihood he will not play on Sunday as he is listed as doubtful. Marquise Goodwin also sat out with his concussion and has been ruled out along with Aaron Williams. There was some good news as two players that were sick returned to practice as Zach Brown and Richie Incognitio took the field today. Cordy Glenn also returned to practice after sitting out Wednesday and Thursday. Corbin Bryant, Marcell Dareus, Mike Gillislee, Jerry Hughes, Robert Woods, Lerentee McCray, and Glenn are all listed as questionable. Injury Page.

Whaley On WGR: Doug Whaley was on WGR this morning and spoke on an array of topics. He said they are working the phones to see if anything develops before next week's trading deadline but it has been very quiet but he's sure talk will pickup after Sunday. He says they are prepared to bring in someone from the outside at wide receiver if they need to but it is time for the backups on the roster to step up and contribute. They do have the flexibility under the cap to make a move it just depends on how big the move is. The coach had no new insight on LeSean McCoy saying they are taking it day by day and there have been no setbacks. With all the information they had last Sunday it was the right call to play him against Miami. On Sammy Watkins, he re-iterated that he is out of the boot and progressing. They saw some encouraging things from Shaq Lawson on his debut. He did revert to some of his college habits on certain plays but it was good to get him in there and get some game reps at the temp of an NFL game. The play of Lorenzo Alexander gives them the flexibility of bringing Lawson along slowly and gives them a chance to keep Alexander and Jerry Hughes fresh by getting them some breathers.

Landry Fined: Jarvis Landry has been fined $24,309 for his illegal crackback block on Aaron Williams according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Williams' father told AP that his son will discuss his future with the family at the end of the season and decide what to do. The AP report says Stephon Gilmore is saying that Williams does have numbness in one of his arms. Williams' father declined to comment on Gilmore's comment.

No Shady Again: LeSean McCoy did not practice again today and neither did Aaron Williams, Marquise Goodwin, Richie Incognito, Zach Brown, and Cordy Glenn. Williams and Goodwin are not a surprise but Glenn has been sitting on Wednesdays and practicing on Thursday so him not being out there today could be a cause for concern. Brown was ill yesterday and may still be under the weather. Incognito was out with an illness. Returning to practice were Adolphus Washington, Charles Clay, Lerentee McCray, and Corbin Bryant. Coach Ryan said there is concern that Aaron's injury is long term because of his history with his neck. He also described Robert Woods as very limited and expects McCoy to be a gametime decision like last week. Injury Page.

Practice Squad Move: Another day another practice squad move. The Bills have brought back Michael Ola. They released him to activate Ed Egan from the practice squad and then signed him to that unit when he cleared waivers.

Game Preview: The Bills look to get back on track and to sweep the Patriots for the first time since the last year the Bills were in the playoffs. It will be much tougher this time with Tom Brady at the helm for New England. The Patriots have a history of blowing out their division rivals the 2nd time they play them in a season after losing to them in the first matchup. A win by the Patriots will give them a whopping three game division lead at the halfway point of the season. Complete Preview.

Wednesday October 26, 2016

Long Injury List: Several people sat out practice today which has become the norm on Wednesdays. Sitting today are LeSean McCoy, Lorenzo Alexander, Zach Brown, Adolphus Washington, Corbin Bryant, Charles Clay, Cordy Glenn, Marquise Goodwin, Lerentee McCray, and Aaron Williams. Alexander has a rest day while Washington and Brown are ill. McCoy is still getting treatment for his hamstring and Williams has his neck injury but no concussion. Goodwin is in concussion protocol. Clay and Glenn getting their usual Wednesdays off as both have ankle injuries. Bryant is battling a shoulder problem and McCray a knee. Marcell Dareus and Robert Woods are practicing on a limited basis today so that is a piece of good news. Dareus said after practice that he will play on Sunday. Mike Gillislee is limited with a toe injury but Rex Ryan doesn't feel it will be a major issue. Gillislee said it was caused by new cleats. Injury Page.

Tuesday October 25, 2016

WR Promoted: The Bills promoted WR Ed Egan from the practice squad to aid their hurting receiving corps. To make room they released Michael Ola. It is a bit of a surprise they activated Egan over Dez Lewis who is a former draft pick. Egan has been on the Bills practice squad for about a month and has spent time with the Browns and Cowboys. The team revamped their practice squad using open spots created by Egan and TE Manasseh Garner's promotions and added Gerald Christian, WR Mose Frazier, and DB Joe Powell to the unit. Christian was released last week to make room for Garner on the active roster so they essentially swap spots. WR Corey Washington was released from the unit.

Terrible Loss: This was the game our columnist Tony Bogyo was afraid of. The Bills winning streak came to a crashing halt as they wilted in the South Florida sun and heat. Tony takes a look back at the dominating loss at the hands of the Dolphins. Complete Story.

Monday October 24, 2016

Williams Ok: Rex Ryan addressed the media today and said Aaron Williams was with the team attending meetings today and doing ok. They are still evaluating his neck and head injuries. The coach was very upset about the cheap shot Jarvis Landry gave on Williams and feels the pros should look into implementing the college rule on targeting. On LeSean McCoy, he said they took him out immediately when the hamstring tightened up and they will see how he progresses this week. Adam Schefter reports that Shady will be in the same situation this Sunday as he was yesterday and will likely be questionable to play. The coach said Robert Woods is making progress and they hope to get Marcell Dareus on the field this week.
