Bills Continue To Roll With Rout Of Raiders
Sunday October 29, 2017
Gameday Grades: The four takeaways by the defense allowed them to dominate the game after giving up the opening touchdown drive. The offense made plays when they had to and the special teams came up with a couple of big plays as well. Gameday Grades.
Bills Blitz: Tyrod Taylor ran for a touchdown and threw for one to Andre Holmes as the Bills took it to the Raiders in a 34-14 wipe out at New Era Field. Matt Milano recovered a fumble and returned it 40 yards for the go ahead touchdown just before halftime and the Bills kept rolling in the second half. The team forced two more turnovers in the third quarter that they turned into Stephen Hauschka field goals. LeSean McCoy put the icing on the cake with a 48 yard exclamation point touchdown as he finished the game with 151 yards rushing while Trae Elston put another exclamation point on this game with an interception. Bills Blitz.
Injury Update: The Bills seemed to get out of the game without any more injuries. Deonte Thompson went off with a hand injury but he returned. Injury Page.
Gameday Inactives: Jordan Poyer leads the list of inactives as he was a gametime decision with his knee injury. Trae Elston will start in his place which is a huge dropoff. He joins E.J. Gaines, Charles Clay, and Ramon Humber as inactives because of injuries. They were ruled out on Friday. Richie Incognito was listed as questionable along with Poyer but he is active and will start. The healthy scratches are all offensive linemen Conor McDermott, Seantrel Henderson and John Miller.
Gameday Weather: It will be a cold, damp day for football in Orchard Park NY for today's game between the Bills and the Raiders. There will be light rain and drizzle in the morning with a gametime temperature around 45°. The showers will give way to mostly cloudy skies for most of the game with the wind out of the west at 8mph.

Bills Bring Banyard Back: The Bills filled the open roster spot vacated by the Marcell Dareus trade. They have re-signed Joe Banyard to the 53 man roster. He will likely be inactive tomorrow since he was just brought back. The team decided against activating another defensive back from the practice squad at this time. Front Office Page.

Beane Conference Call: Nothing like a Friday night trade during the NFL season to get the Buffalo media and twitter timelines fired up. Brandon Beane held a conference call with the Buffalo media tonight after the trade of Marcell Dereus. He said that Jacksonville reached out to the Bills today and they talked about it and decided it was the best move for the team and Marcell. He had not been actively talking to teams about trading Dareus as the trade deadline approaches. He admitted the contract and cap numbers played a role in the decision to make the deal. He said there was some talks regarding trading Dareus over the summer. Beane said the move to send Dareus home before the preseason game in Baltimore was disappointing but not the breaking point. He also said that he has been much better lately. He admitted that he and Sean McDermott had Dareus flagged coming in because of the off the field issues but he's not a bad person and they wish him the best. If the trade didn't happen they would have definitely discussed if he fit in with the team during the offseason. The team is always looking at ways to improve the roster and will do so up to the trade deadline on Halloween. On Anquan Boldin, Beane said it was expressed to him that if a team closer to his home was interested he would like to play again. Beane added he doesn't expect anything to happen there and he will not release him. He said he hasn't spoken to Boldin and wouldn't totally rule out him returning to Buffalo. He said that he and Sean are getting their guys on the team and moving on from guys that aren't. Depth Chart. Front Office Page.
Dareus To Jacksonville: The Bills have finally gotten rid of the Marcell Dareus contract. Adam Schefter is the first to report that they have traded him to Jacksonville for a 6th round draft pick in the 2018 draft that could move up to a 5th rounder depending on performance. He will be reunited with Doug Marrone. The contract Doug Whaley gave Dareus was almost impossible to get out from under so the deal is more about getting the dollars off the books instead of the compensation. The team still takes a $14.2 Million cap hit next year but will save $2.375M. They also save just under $6M on this year's cap that can be rolled over. After next year they are totally out from under that terrible contract. Dareus showed only brief glimpses of the immense talent he had since coming into the league as the third overall pick. He has had many off the field trangressions including drug suspensions, a hit and run, and many late meetings. Will Marrone and Tom Coughlin be able to get Dareus in line? He definitely did not fit in with the process being sold by Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane. It's a process that almost the entire team has bought into. It's all part of the building for the future which he was definitely not part of. Don't let the current success fool you this organization is still more about the long term success than the short term. The only issue is if this will effect the players in the locker room that are trying to win now? I doubt it with how close this team has become.
Poyer, Incognito Questionable: The Bills have designated Jordan Poyer and Richie Incognito as questionable for Sunday's game. Incognito was limited in practice today and said he is confident he will play. Poyer did some stretching but was a non participant. He said he is progressing well from day to day but is unsure if he will be ready to play by Sunday. He wil be a gametime decision. Charles Clay, Ramon Humber, and E.J. Gaines have been ruled out. Clay was back on the field in helmet and pads today as he seems to be getting closer to a return. The Raiders are also banged up in the secondary. Leading tackler S Karl Joseph is doubtful and CBs David Amerson and Gareon Conley have been ruled out. Injury Page.
McDermott Presser: Sean McDermott spoke to the media before the final practice of the week. He opened the presser giving condolences to Logan Thomas for the loss of his daughter. The entire organization is offering their support in this very difficult time for the tight end and his family. Thomas will practice with the team for a second straight day today. The way he and his family has handled this tragedy speaks volumes about who they are and he was so glad to see him with the team from a non football standpoint getting the support of his teammates. E.J. Gaines has been ruled out with his hamstring and Jordan Poyer remains day to day. They will see if he can take the field today. Charles Clay and Ramon Humber have been ruled out again. Richie Incognito will practice on a limited basis today and they will continue to monitor that situation. He's confident Richie is heading in the right direction but it is still too much up in the air to see if he'll play Sunday. Ryan Groy and John Miller have taken reps in his place. On Anquan Boldin he said he's aware of the situation but concentrating on the players that are with the team right now.

Thomas Tragedy: Logan Thomas tweeted tonight about a personal tragedy as his newborn daughter passed away Tuesday night shortly after birth. Thomas was excused from practice on Wednesday and at the time Sean McDermott would not comment about his availability for Sunday's game. Thomas was on the field today. Our thoughts and condoloences go out to Thomas and his entire family.
Boldin Wants To Return: 5 hours after a Time article came out about Anquan Boldin quitting football for activism he wants to return. Adam Schefter reported and showed a letter from the Bills granting permission for Boldin's agent to talk to other teams. Boldin obviously wasn't retiring for activism he just didn't want to play for the Bills. If that was the case he shouldn't have signed with them in the first place then lie about his true intentions. The Bills would be looking for compensation if another team wants him.
Poyer, Gaines, Incognito Sit: Jordan Poyer, Richie Incognito, and E.J. Gaines all sat out practice again today doing work on the side instead. Poyer did do some stretching with his teammates. This isn't great news as most players that return from injury at least hit the field some on Thursdays. The Bills need Poyer and Gaines to combat the high powered passing attack of Oakland. Logan Thomas, Lorenzo Alexander, Kyle Williams, and LeSean McCoy returned to the field today. Thomas was excused yesterday for personal reasons while the other three got a day of rest Wednesday. Injury Page.
Game Preview: The Bills are flying high coming off their come from behind win over the Bucs last week. The Raiders fly cross country after a thrilling win of their own last week for a big battle that can help shape the AFC playoff race down the line. The Bills need a win to help establish themselves as a legitimate contender. Complete Preview.

Roster Move: Just two days after signing with the Bills they have released CB Tony McRae and claimed off of waivers CB Lafayette Pitts from the Jaguars. Pitts was waived by Jacksonville on Tuesday and has played in 14 games with Jacksonville and Miami mostly on special teams. Front Office Page.
McDermott Presser: Sean McDermott held his normal Wednesday press conference before practice today. The injury list is getting longer as Ramon Humber, Charles Clay, EJ Gaines, Richie Incognito, and Jordan Poyer won't practice today because of injuries. Lorenzo Alexander, Kyle Williams, and LeSean McCoy are getting rest days. Logan Thomas is excused for personal reasons and it this point he doesn't know when he will return. He decided to give three players a day off today because of where they are in the season. The Incognito injury is an ankle but he feels ok and they are being cautious. He got missed a couple of plays with it against Tampa Bay. The coach continues to say that Poyer and Gaines are day to day. On Marcell Dareus, he says he's moving in the right direction after a great week in practice last week. His habits are improving and he is anxious to see how he does this week. He thought he played his best football Sunday. With Cordy Glenn now almost totally healthy, and no longer on the injury report, the situation with Dion Dawkins is now fluid. Sounds like he may get snaps on the right side. The great part about this team is that every week someone else is stepping up and that is believing in the process. He's excited to see who will step up this week. The coach has been impressed the with the development of Matt Milano but said Ramon Humber will be the starter when he returns. He loves the experience Milano has received with Humber sidelined. On Rod Streater getting a tryout yesterday, he called it just doing their due diligence. Coach McDermott believes he's not eligible to sign with the Bills yet after getting the injury settlement. Sal Capaccio confirmed this with the league. Injury Page.

No Beast Mode: It won't be a trip down memory lane for Marshawn Lynch Sunday in Buffalo. As expected his one game suspension was upheld today and he will not be playing for the Raiders against the Bills on Sunday. Lynch was thrown out of last Thursday's game when he ran from the sidelines to breakup a fight and pushed an official. Lynch no doubt was excited to play his former team but he has not been the focal point of the offense in Oakland like he was in Seattle before taking a year off.
Bogyo Column: Tony Bogyo checks in with his latest column where he talks about loving being a Bills fan right now after a surprising come from behind win over the Bucs. Complete Story.

Bills Release Kaelin Clay; Sign CB: The Bills have added to their banged up secondary corps by claiming CB Tony McRae off of waivers. They made room by releasing Kaelin Clay, Mike Rodak of ESPN was the first to report it. McRae was just released by Baltimore. He appeared in the first five games mostly on special teams. Clay came over from Carolina at the beginning of the season and was considered a deep threat. That role seems to have been taken by Deonte Thompson who had a breakout game yesterday. Depth Chart. Front Office Page.
Gaines, Poyer Day To Day: Sean McDermott updated the media on the injury situation today. He called both E.J. Gaines and Jordan Poyer day to day. Gaines injured his hamstring while Poyer suffered a knee injury on the wild final lateral play. McDermott said early signs are positive for both players but it is still very early in the process and treatment will be key for both players. Injury Page.
